Mug up from New Hampshire to Louisiana, 30 F and dark at 4:30 am. We lost over 3 minutes of daylight last night. Days are getting short. Bees are still finding small amounts of pollen here yesterday. Just stopped feeding some light hives and giving them time to dry up before I reduce the number of frames in my horizontal hives. Got one hive left to go through if it gets above 60 F today. I may pull some honey, but most frames will go back to the bees when the red maples are blooming in the spring. Wow, nice hive Charlie, really beautiful! Enjoy the honey! Thanks for sharing. Take care.

Unfortunately, this honey is not for sale, it's my personal stash. However, if you'd like to buy some of our Abbey Honey, I'd be more than happy to send you some. The cost is $10.00 for a one pound, plastic bottle, and $10.00 for shipping. If you want more than one bottle, the shipping cost is still $10.00 for up to 2 bottles, but each bottle is still $10.00. As soon as I get your check, I will send it out. Make the check out to St. Joseph Abbey but send the letter to: Mr. Ed 75376 River Rd. Jeff, love the cleaning crew start to this video. Here in Canastota NY (20 miles east of Syracuse NY) I do the same. However I git a lot of yellow jackets, bald-faced hornets, carpenter bees, and paper wasps helping with the cleaning. Long Langstroth Hive (LLH) has become my go to. Built 4 this year. I too, moved the legs from the ends to the sides. Also single entrance versus triple. My first LLH had the triple but now 2 are sealed up by a scrap of wood. No need for a queen excluder as the queen stays in the brood area. I love my LLHs. 32° this morning and all I have to do for winterizing is walking away. I have 2" ridged foam insulation in the top. This works for both winter heat retention and summer cooling purposes. No heavy lifting for the mite treatment. I.e. no lifting heavy boxes to get to the brood section. I do reduce the entrance for winter prep but that's so minor I tend to forget about it. Here's my cleaning crew with a tour of my apiary at the end: ua-cam.com/video/IUE74FoP0ao/v-deo.html Edit: got to love deep honey frames! I harvested over 10 gallons of honey from the 20 frames I pulled from my LLHs 3 weeks ago. Edit 2: definitely dark late season honey. Got my self a little fruit press to squeeze every last drop out of my cappings. Then discovered that it was toooooo little. 😉

Forgot bigup to Charlie for such a wonderful job on the hive body...will try one just like this in my apiary come next year after the rainy season....
The horizontal hive has so many positive features, but as an old guy, my favorites are how easy they are to work, and how it saves your back when pulling honey. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 500 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video almost every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Edi.
Mr. Ed
MR Ed that’s a beautiful hive that Charlie made for you and your wife god bless sir
Take care.
Hard to believe you are already experiencing 30 degree temps already. Heck down here. we won't get that till January...or later. You and the bees stay warm. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 500 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. Mr Ed you might have to get a two frame extractor for little jobs like this...love it bees are such a lovely insects to have around the house.

Very nice honey going to have to buy some of that.
Unfortunately, this honey is not for sale, it's my personal stash. However, if you'd like to buy some of our Abbey Honey, I'd be more than happy to send you some. We have two verticals, one horizontal all on a hillside. Great vid!
I am the beekeeper for a group of Benedictine monks here in Southeast Louisiana at St. Joseph Abbey. They have about 150 hives but I only have 3, one horizontal and 2 vertical ones just like you. I’m glad to see you using a horizontal frame. I’m my humble opinion they are far superior to the vertical ones. X

@@JeffHorchoff Thank you so much!!!
Here's my cleaning crew with a tour of my apiary at the end: ua-cam.com/video/IUE74FoP0ao/v-deo.html
Edit: got to love deep honey frames! I harvested over 10 gallons of honey from the 20 frames I pulled from my LLHs 3 weeks ago.
Edit 2: definitely dark late season honey. Got my self a little fruit press to squeeze every last drop out of my cappings. Then discovered that it was toooooo little. 😉

What a fun video to watch - thanks for sharing. I have 6 top bar hives (and a few Langs) and we harvest with the crush and strain method as well.
Glad to hear you enjoyed watching, I appreciate that tremendously, and I do love sharing my experiences of wrangling and keeping bees.
