    Three point lighting is the best. Frugal pro tip....3 $10 gooseneck floor lamps with "daylight" led bulbs and then cover the lamp part with $1 shower caps to softly diffuse the light for that beautiful skin glow. Total cost: $40.
    P.S. Only use LED bulbs because they will not get hot and therefore can be covered without a fire-risk.

      clyde gallagher I've been using 3 led floor lamps until I'm able to get a ring light . I also find with the Sony a5000...I know another UA-camr that films with the a5000 but uses a ring light & her quality looks great! Will you take a look at my video for some suggestions? Idk if the light is close enough to me or what....😕

      Question - when I try to film close-ups, I feel like it shows WAY too much detail of my face. I don't know if it's the lighting, camera setting or just my skin lol. I'd like to achieve that almost airbrushed look I see in most beauty guru videos.

      Hi +Kemi's Choice i'm a videographer I think I can help :p. I'm a little late but hopefully you can see my message anyways :P. I took a look at your "How to Bob Braids (Tutorial) - NO BURNING!" video and from what I can tell, the most likely culprit is that your light is too close to you and also turned up too high. It also looks like you aren't using a softbox. This is something you can put over light to make the light softer. That "airbrushed" look you are looking to achieve happens because the lights are diffused (by softboxes), further away from the subject, and/or turned down in intensity. I hope this helps, happy vlogging! :)

    • @KemisChoice
      @KemisChoice 8 років тому +1

      Thank you Olivia for your reply!. Yes you are right, I don't have a softbox, and the light was right in front of me in that video. I will hopefully be able to invest in better lighting equipment soon and get much better quality videos. Thanks again!!

    Maya, I Have a question. I've ask MULTIPLE youtubers this question but all seem to act like its a secret and it's annoying. But some youtubers have backdrops, and behind them there's something that kind of looks like there's a light. Like behind them is lighter then the backdrop. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you can check out Alyssa Ashely's video. Can you please tell me how they do that?!

    • @SweetSerenity2004
      @SweetSerenity2004 8 років тому

      Army Barbie i could be wrong but i believe all they use is a fabric of some sort...something that will from a fabric store that will really pop. and then i think they position a light source to hit the back drop...they may have two off to the sides to really illuminate the back drop or they may have one but then strategically sit in front of the light source while also facing a different light source. so essentially you have light on the "back drop" and also light on you... if that makes sense?

    • @lalamadrid
      @lalamadrid 8 років тому +3

      It's the fabric they're using - usually it's the sequins fabric and when it's a blurred background that's what happens so any glittery or metallic background will make this happens

      I believe she is using an HDMI cord. Based on the make of your camera you may need an HDMI cord or mini HDMI cord. They are fairly cheap and easy to order. The port to connect it is usually located on the side of the camera.

    • @RaqNaturalNTWK
      @RaqNaturalNTWK 8 років тому +3

      arpitha badrinath one way I had overlays is downloading overlays from UA-cam. A lot of them have the green screen of the overlay. You can also use keynote and create text/ pictures in there. Make sure the background is green. Save it as QuickTime. Then when you get to iMovie, insert your clip from either key note or UA-cam on top of the section you want the over lay to be over. Click the over lay clip. After that there will be an option at the top with the tools that say "cutaway" click that then the drop down will give you options. Click blue screen/green screen. Then you'll have your overlay

    When on iMovie I edit my exposure to create more lighting since my original lighting my itself is not where i would like it to be. However, when I upload my video to UA-cam from iMovie OR Quicktime it looks NOTHING like how the video looks on iMovie OR Quicktime. It COMPLETELY goes back to normal to how it originally was and did not show how my video actually looks after i edit it on iMovie. Why is this?! I tried both ways and my lighting still changes 😭😩 Please help. It is soo frustrating. I can see how it is suppose to look like on UA-cam but 'actually' shows the way I don't want it to look.

    i just discovered your channel today and spent most of my day watching and learning some great tips. I'm new to UA-cam and thought it was a lot easier. However, I'm up for this challenge as this is something I'm very passionate about. I started my channel a few months ago, but left it alone for a while because I wanted to wait until i have everything. Realizing that may be a good year or two I decided to learn some tips and your video appeared as "recommended". I just subscribed to your channel and I'm even more exhausted to build my brand using this platform. Thank you so much, you are very helpful.

    I am so thankful for the video!! I'm a new channel and I've been saving for a year to update my equipment and I've been looking for a GOOD UA-cam video to go over setup, lights and background. And this is literally the best one I've ever seen. So much info, literally no rambling ( that's so refreshing!!😩😩) instant sub 💕💕

    I'm still very new to youtube and I love making videos. I'm not a beauty guru, I just make videos to show people what I like to do, things I enjoy, places and etc. I just want to show the world there is so much to life and to go out and live it. I haven't really been keeping up constantly making videos because I am living at home with my parents and we don't have much room for a set up. Just a few days ago my boyfriend and I got approved to live in an apartment and i couldn't be more blessed. I see my channel growing because I will have more space and I can create my own design from the bottom up. I can't wait to grow with my viewers and learn about them and even my self along the way. Your video truly inspired me and gave me great ideas! I love your channel, keep up the great work.

    I am watching this video bc I want to start my own channel. I love your honesty about how to get started and not putting this off, being creative and working with what my budget can allow. I want to shoot videos on so many things from fashion, diet/lifestyle change, D.I.Y. ideas, and so much more. I'm kind of having a hard time figuring out my focus for my first video and what topic I want to cover first.
