This game was so ahead of its time in graphics, plot/goals, music, and the overall gaming experience. Aladdin was one of my favorites as a teen in the early '90s, and takes me back to extreme the frustration yet determination to beat the magic carpet volcano. Thanks for posting this for love me some much needed nostalgia. And man you kicked ass. Even when I got really good at this game my first death was always that damn flying carpet level, until and what seemed like forever. I finally memorized it and got through. I've only ever beat this once without dying, but with tons of pauses & a much slower pace
@@SCORPIO047FX Except Aladdin didn't rely on a sword in the movie, but his wits instead. SNES Aladdin follows the movie better, and it's from a Japanese developer, whom tended to take liberties with licensed games at times. Japanese difficulty curves that were fair, versus Western developer difficulty spikes, that were there to frustrate the player.
Bought this Genesis game in 2009, just fired it up this week. Looks great for how old it is, game play is fun. Holds up quite well even today, especially if compared with other games of the era.
Are you sure? I think the level design is horrid, the hit detection is weird, the bosses are uninteresting, enemies attack you off screen, that carpet level is pure memorization, what's up with the disappearing stones, etc.
@@madspunky Not to mention platform hopping in the prison level, and knowing what could be jumped on, and what was just background objects. People overrate this game, western developers in that time period really had no idea how to do a game quite right, while Japanese developers tended to make games that not only had clear level design that made sense and easy to progress through levels. Games like this, Pitfall the Mayan Adventure, and the Earthworm Jim games were the shining example of levels being just a jumbled mess, with developers shoving as much crap as they could in levels, not taking into account of players being able to easily figure out how to get from Point A to Point B. Not to mention western developers had no concept of fair difficulty (Lion King is the example there), or smooth difficulty curves, opting for unfair levels, and enemy placement.
They were actually the best. Lion King, Aladdin, Alien 3, Terminator, Michael Jackson Moonwalker, there was a great 007 sega game, and im sure I can think of tonnes more great games from movies.
errr, sometimes. just as many or more misses than hits. this was just a well above average game. Disney were actually pretty good with their properties and games at this time.
One thing I remember is that the short fat guards who throw knives can have their knives reflected back at them by hitting them with your sword. The first knife will make their pants fall down x3
I wish I could have recorded my playthroughs as a kid. I used to do runs with no damage and not using apples (except where they were required to progress).
2kamakashi2 yeah, but both are still great games. And you gotta give the Genesis release merit for having the guys at Disney themselves make the animation
A very efficient play-through - respect! Question - how did you know the order of ups and downs on the lava wave level? My thoughts are that you either have a very good memory, or you were receiving prompts somehow. Please enlighten me :)
Thats about how long a lot of the game were back then. Although this isnt a an easy game which would require multiple playthroughs to pass.. I mean unless you are a really good gamer thats how they extended the replay.
So, the media starts with Genie firing a pistol into the sky and Iago going down. As a kid, I never thought anything of it, and we're probably meant to assume Iago is only knocked unconscious. (Though it could *certainly* be taken otherwise!) Besides, it was funny! Still, though, I can only imagine how social media would react to a scene like that today, if it were in a game for kids....

Sorry to be blunt but even though this is the most discussed aladdin game, the final boss sucks compared to capcom's huge snake jafar! In general i liked a little better capcom's since it was more accurate close to the movie, and the music. This game we see here is good but it is somehow chaotic with all those sounds and those huge stages to tell you the truth.
Lol trust me you won't be able to beat it in no where near 30 mins this game is hard compared to today's games. This guy that's playing played this game over 100 hours I can guarantee it
It somehow doesn't feel right seeing Al using a deadly weapon against the royal guards. He's literally a thug in this game, instead of a noble homeless boy.
I love how in the genie level, you played it throughout the whole song in one perfect pace.
This is what separates an LP from a GREAT LP

I remember playing this. I never beat it cause I had no idea where the hell to go or what I was doing.
Wow. I. Am. Old.
How old? like mid-twenties?
redmotive I’m 31 and remember playing this as a kid along with The Lion King for Genesis as well.
for me I know how to play it
I'm 31
I'm 33 and loved this game back then... lion king is still one of the best of all time
This game is visually beautiful and I’m so excited for it to come to the switch
Glad to say I beat this fantastic game. They really above and beyond with this platformer. One of the best games on the Genesis.
Wow, this game holds up really well today.
This version has better music than snes Aladdin, + it's more fun to wield a sword, slashing guards than to mostly jump on their heads to defeat them.

Fun fact
The actual animators from the film did the graphics for this game :)
Thanks for the info my dude
+azure-violet fire storm 37 The game doesn't suck. You just suck at this game.
Nice
Amazing smooth animations indeed for 1993. 👏👏👏

Love this game always died in the magic rug level tho
You make it look so easy, like all gameplays out there. I could never beat this game as a kid. Beautiful childhood memories anyway. 👍

This and lion king had me on the verge of smashing controllers
Thx for the full game! It's one I missed in my Genesis-playing days!
Back when video games based on movies were actually decent
😅
Prince of Persia came years before the Aladdin movie tho
They were actually the best. Lion King, Aladdin, Alien 3, Terminator, Michael Jackson Moonwalker, there was a great 007 sega game, and im sure I can think of tonnes more great games from movies.
Nintendo is far better.

Oh my childhood came back to life, thanks dude.
I just love the boss theme, it's so intense

man i remember when i finished this game, was so happy
The game that pushed Rare to make Donkey Kong Country stand out with its pre-rendered graphics.
My absolute favorite level is the rug ride when escaping the tidal lava wave.
Dude i really appreciate this upload.
4:00 hahaha that was a cool secret, I didn't know that
Takes me back to the early 2000s when I had a Genesis and SNES in my room, late nights when all u hear is crickets outside, I'd be playing this.
ya know i used to drive my parents nuts by hitting the reset button just to see that bird get shot
How old were you when did that ?
@@talhajubair2426 4 or 5 and still do it to this day when the reset button works
one of my favourite games and from a great classic movie by Disney
Never finished the first level.
Thanks for satisfying my curiosity about what comes next
School holiday kind of games
ABBAABBA IYKYK
Loved this game
These sprites were some of the most detailed on the Genesis. They rival even some 2D PS1 games.
As far as I remember, the Rug Ride Level is very tricky since there is a Wave Of Lava creeping up from behind you.
One of the best games on Genesis
I wish I could have recorded my playthroughs as a kid. I used to do runs with no damage and not using apples (except where they were required to progress).
Wow, that's impressive
Get a pc control and join Vizzed
Pause the game just type A,B,B,A, A,B B,A your level will be clear and enter to next level.
Well done
I loved this video game 🎮 when, Aladdin got a 🗡.
When I play Aladdin on retrogames cz it always skips the cutscene at 25:06. Anyone knows why?

Fantastic talents😁
I need to try harder for myself😊
I don't know, but this game look more challenging and fun than his other version on Super Nintendo.
2kamakashi2 yeah, but both are still great games. And you gotta give the Genesis release merit for having the guys at Disney themselves make the animation

On the second level as soon as you enter go left. There is secret, I can’t remember what it is though. If you know please remind me thanks.
if you go right, then you go back to the start there is an extra life
I had this game as a kid good times!!
Finally I found out how it ends lol
My childhood
Those apples are the bomb! Literaly!
You had to be there 🤩
This game for the Genesis mini
Nintendo Mario no I think because of the whole licensing thing
Good news! This game and The Lion King are coming to Switch!
I'm glad I wasn't great at playing this because if I found out it was only have 30 min long I'd been played
Thats about how long a lot of the game were back then. Although this isnt a an easy game which would require multiple playthroughs to pass.. I mean unless you are a really good gamer thats how they extended the replay.
Nop ... it may seem 30 mints ... but as a kid, you would die a lot ... it will take you like a week to finish it as a normal kid who has homework

Wow. This is leagues above the SNES verison.
☺
The graphics on Genesis are certainly better. But I think SNES had better sounds and music.
Why skip the Abu Bonus Levek?
Ditto
I totally miss playing this game.
0:00 guess we kno where SEGA got the idea 4 Shadow’s spin-off game
Is this even possible if I only have 10 apples at the last checkpoint right before Jafar?
Why the shows Iago right at the end of Inside The Lamp level?
Shouldn’t the first level be One Jump instead of Prince Ali?
Not even the mighty Shadowserg can do a no hit run on ALADDIN for the SEGA Genesis! Jk homie I love your videos.
28:08 Jafar
24:35 Iago
this is a game where you are awaiting Earthworm Jim to appear as a cameo of sorts.
Who else is watching this to celebrate the game coming to Switch?
Fraggly of the Duma Faithful i need to get the switch
Wasn't the game boy and genesis the same game?
Dejame adivinar..

This SNES version was truer to the film and had a better ending. This was okay though...
i like the music
