The Lion King on Genesis, despite having the same producer (Virgin), and maybe the same level design, had different "hitboxes" for the hippo tails/ears, and it was overall much easier and more intuitive than SNES' version. So if someone wants to play this, and not get enraged by that level, I totally recommend the Genesis version! (and I say this as a proud owner of both cartridges)

    • @mattmorgan881

One of the developers of The Lion King said they were told it make it very challenging on SNES. Nintendo works with the developers on their games and they wanted it hard so that kids who rented it couldn't beat it. They did it hoping they'd be tempted to buy it so they could get all the way through.

The Great Circus Mystery might not be as highly rated/known as most SNES games, but it has a special place in my heart/childhood. Yes it might be short and relatively easy (for Capcom at least, still took me awhile to beat at a young age) but the co-op multiplayer mode was one of the best at the time. I had a lot of fun playing with my sister/friends, and if my father was busy, I could still start the game and he could easily jump in later by pressing start at any time.

Correction: Buzz Lightyear’s drug of choice is heroin, not cocaine. He does occasionally like to speedball though. I heard Woody convinced him to get on the methadone maintenance program after hitting him with a surprise intervention. Woody felt he just had to step in once he found out that Buzz pawned his space suit and started posting escort ads on backpage. I hope he can turn his life around now that he’s on the clinic.

Mickey Mania was a blast to play on the Genesis and I still have the game to today. I'll never get why the SNES version had loading times or even why they cut the game a level. I've played the SNES version during the good ol video rental days, and it made me appreciate the Genesis version more.

Not that anyone would really care, but the Alice in Wonderland game is an Point-and-Click-Adventure with painting mechanics. The Mario Paint like mode and the minigames you shown in the video are just a bonus. xD

Random trivia: Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow’s music is by Michael Giacchino! Before he did scores for Pixar (The Incredibles and Up to name a couple) and a bunch of other blockbuster movies (like some of the newer Star Trek and Mission: Impossible movies), he did that game; it’s one of his earliest credits.
Also, 4:39 apparently Donald Duck is incredibly popular in many countries besides the US essentially because his comics were great, starting with Carl Barks (who basically created a lot of what ended up getting made into DuckTales) and continuing with Don Rosa and a ton of others, including many local to the regions they’re published in. Donald’s got an entire superhero spinoff series (among others) in Italy, Osamu Tezuka (the godfather of manga) drew a Christmas card for Carl Barks of Astro Boy hugging a disgruntled Donald, and I read an article once that said some patent office (in The Netherlands maybe?) denied someone a patent on a technique to raise ships from the sea floor because it had already been done in a Donald Duck comic. So yeah, most people in the US are a little more take-him-or-leave-him but he’s popular in a ton of other places.

For years I was upset that the Genesis had the version of Aladdin with a sword. While I thoroughly enjoyed the SNES version, the genesis version seemed like it could be better. When I eventually played it, I have to admit I was a little disappointed. It’s still a good game, but the controls didn’t feel as tight as the SNES version. After spending time with both versions, I’ve come to appreciate the SNES version more as time has gone on and revisit it more than the Genesis title. Both are good games though.

Toy Story was one of my favorite Genesis games growing up, it's seriously so good. Aladdin too.
