Yes, Pet sounds is a must. There is a whole backstory to Brian Wilson writing Pet Sounds as a reaction to hearing the Beatle’s Rubber Soul. If you can watch some of the footage on making Pet Sounds studio footage. Brian Wilson wrote most of it but had many musicians sit in on the recording. Look up The Wrecking Crew, you will be amazed how many hits those guys and a couple gals were on.

As a metalhead who grew up listening to my parents playing The Beach Boys I am constantly surprised by the fact other metalheads also admit what an influence The Beach Boys were on them... it's so odd coz I don't see the connection between metal and their style? Yet I hardly know a metal lover who doesn't appreciate The Beach Boys for whatever reason!

The first band I got into when I was 6 or 7 was the Beach Boys. The path I went down as I got older was punk and metal. There's definitely some weird connection somehow.

Their album you were talking about is "Pet Sounds". It was actually a huge influence for The Beatles. BTW the musicians on a lot of their songs was The Wrecking Crew, who were well respected session musicians who a lot of bands used back then. There was a great documentary done about them a few years ago called "The Wrecking Crew". You should check it out.

The Beach Boys, the band that the Beatles admired. They were so innovative that they pretty much created their own genre of music. Their harmonies are one of the bands that are gold standard that I agree needs more of today. My best friend was never so proud that his very young son found them and became his favorite band.

This is one of those cases where the video really effs up the song. First time seeing it for me and I wish I had closed my eyes 🙈 because the video that my brain made up for it was beautiful and had nothing to do with fire engines. True story…I woke up one morning 3 years ago singing the slow part of this song because it was playing in my dream and I ended up having a great day. Nothing extraordinary happened to make it a great day…I guess I was just really feeling some good vibrations. It played in my head until bedtime. The slow part about closing my eyes.

The music video is goofy and fun, but the music is ultimately more important, not sure how this music video even originated, is it just random footage or was it deliberately put together to be a music video for Good Vibrations?

    • @Fool3SufferingFools
      @Fool3SufferingFools 2 роки тому

@@Providence.. This footage was filmed to go with "Fire" (a/k/a "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow"), which was part of the "Elements" suite that was planned for the abandoned Beach Boys album "Smile," started in late 1966. The "Smile" music was finally completed by Brian Wilson in 2003 and re-recorded for a solo album in 2004.

The Beach Boys are the biggest American classic surf-rock music band around. Going way back to early 60s. It's a big rabbit hole! They had so many hit songs. At first they did surf music, and a lot of harmonies. Then Brian started listening to the Beatles and wrote more complex music later on. Like this song. Wouldn't it be nice, and God only knows are some other later ones that were big songs. An awesome song I like as well, is the Rolling Stone's 2000 Lightyears from home, off of their psychedelic album-answer to Sg't Peppers.

  • @mikecaetano

Masterpiece! The Beach Boys began as a surf-rock band in the early sixties. They dropped their first number one hit in 1963 with "Surfin' U.S.A." before going on to release a long string of hits including "Surfin Safari", "Catch a Wave", "Surfer Girl", "Little Deuce Coupe", "Fun, Fun, Fun", "I Get Around", "Don't Worry Baby", "Help Me, Rhonda", "Barbara Ann", "California Girls", "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and Paul McCartney's reported favorite song of all time, "God Only Knows". Groovy rhythms with unmatched harmonies, their surf and car tunes are sometimes mistaken for Jan & Dean -- "The Little Old Lady (From Pasadena)", "Dead Man's Curve" and the classic "Surf City". But songs like "Good Vibrations" raised the bar for them and for other bands. The space whistle like sound you might be wondering about comes from a theremin, an electronic musical instrument invented in 1920. It's played by waving a hand around an antenna like structure. Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin famously plays one on stage in the movie The Song Remains The Same, but save that reaction for another day. For something different from The Beach Boys, check out the instrumental "Let's Go Away For Awhile" from their Pet Sounds album.

This song was the entire basis of the beach boys smile album. Recorded and edited like a movie (which was fucking hard with 1966 technology) The entire smile album itself is legendary for never coming out in 1967. However it was released in 2004 with Brian Wilson with a new band recorded the entire album. The original 1966 to 1967 sessions of smile were released as a box set called the smile sessions. Disc one was the album and followed the template of 2004 smile. It is also probably the most fat mixed album in history. There is so much material out there for it that you can literally hear six different versions doing completely wild interpretations of the album. It’s nuts!.

(Glad you didn't pay much attention to this silly video, tho!). They did first become known for their Very beachy vibes, such as Surfer Girl and Surfin USA (not their best songs by a long shot), but then had a string of great hits before Good Vibrations. The guys in the video are not the Beach Boys, I've never seen this particular video before. Brian Wilson is a genius who not only wrote the lyrics but all the music AND back up vocals. He had problems, his father was abusive and actually made him deaf in one ear after hitting him in the ear and then he sold all the rights to their music behind their backs...what an asshole. Then Brian was doped up on heaps of pills and kept basically a prisoner by his psychiatrist and was only saved when his housekeeper told his new girlfriend what was going on. I guess today he would've been diagnosed on the spectrum. Love him to bits and their songs, oh and there's a great movie about it starring John Cussack.

This was The Beach Boys although this was not an official video for Good Vibrations. It was filmed I think in early 1967 in conjunction with their uncompleted Smile album. One of the songs on there had a fire theme (Mrs O’Leary’s Cow). The woman with the basketball looks like Brian’s first wife, Marilyn. If I recall it was filmed by singer Zooey Deschanel’s father, cinematographer Caleb Deschanel (Zooey later recorded with Brian Wilson on a solo album)

If you like Harmony, The Beach Boys are for you. Their musical leader Brian Wilson welded sophisticated Jazz harmony to Chuck Berry rock and roll. The band started in 1961 and Brian wrote, arranged and produced their music through 1967. After 1967 his participation was declining due to undiagnosed depression. His 1966 Masterpiece Pet Sounds was actually the tenth album he produced which he finished before his 24th birthday.

I was 11 when it was released and it could only be heard on AM radio. So no visuals. I was swept away by the sound. Became my favourite tune for many years. The way that Brian Wilson created a mini suite in 3 minutes 35 seconds still blows me away to this day. Production spanned more than a dozen recording sessions at four different Hollywood studios. It took 6 months and up to $75,000 in 1966 dollars to produce. More than many albums in the day.

Yes that is the band in the video. The lead vocals in this song is Carl Wilson. In my opinion the best singer in the Beach Boys but they all sing and they all have great voices in their own right. Brian Wilson is the genius of the band who wrote this song with his cousin Mike Love (also in the band) and every song that you know of the Beach Boys minus Kokomo essentially but they all wrote fantastic songs in their own right but not to the level of Brian Wilson. The Beach Boys are a complicated story but one worth digging into for sure. You have to do God Only Knows, also sung by Carl Wilson. His best showcase of the sweet, softness, and emotional vocal that he can deliver.

The video has no connection to the song. Close your eyes and check out the music...That is the band, but not related to the lyrics...

You got the music but I don’t think you have the right video!? Look for more good music

The video being run along with the music here is a distraction, not even worth watching. You're better off closing your eyes.

The video deserves to be ignored. Way to harsh the mellow of a song.
