To add a few things: 1. The whole system runs off two sets of batteries. The motors and electronics use a pair of 24v LiPo batteries running in series to get over 50v when fully charged. The solenoid, however, runs off a dedicated 14v LiPo since it has a pretty large current draw, and I didn't want the voltage to the motors to sag right at the moment a round was fired. 2. To actually trigger the solenoid, I originally used a MOSFET trigger since they're extremely small. But after letting the magic smoke out of a couple microcontrollers, I opted to go with an optoisolator to keep the 14v LiPo separated. 3. I learned the hard way that some batches of jelly packets, despite all being from the same manufacturer, have noticeable size variations due to differences in how much jelly gets put in each container. I will absolutely be writing a strongly worded letter to these jelly manufactures since consistency is key in any ammunition, and I can't have these jamming during toast-based combat. Strangely enough, I've found marmalade to be the best so far, so I guess we have the British to thank for something.
Also a couple of things: 1. The Nerf Community probably could have assisted in flywheel design. Lookup Drac. 2. That Solenoid out performed the early flywheels XD 3. The paintball community would like you to know about compressed air tanks.
Compressed air would definitely be an effective method of acceleration! Though I much prefer the convenience of rechargeable batteries since the high pressure used in paintball tanks (often in excess of 4000PSI) requires dedicated equipment. Perhaps if I ever make a version 2.0, I'll experiment with some different methods of condiment packet launching!
@@backhaul-studios it would also be cool to test different flywheel sizes and materials for different objects, you can make this a multi use machine :)

Working at Chick-fil-A, I already knew that you were going to use our sauce packets, because they’re so easy to throw. I won’t tell you how many times I got hit by a sauce packet that angry customer has thrown at me.
I would love to know what the Chick-Fil-A engineers had in mind when they set out to make their condiment packets, because those things are in a league of their own
@@backhaul-studios so would I, I get a lot of customers who say that the sauce packets are better than other fast food chains. I’ve seen some people step on them, and the pack doesn’t break.
Wow, nice video and awesome looking condiment slinger. For a sidearm my mind directly goes to shooting condiments not in packets, but like one of those electric supersoakers or some ketchup in paint balls. Need to see some lovely splatter in your cinematic shots.
Incredible build and nice quality video! I love the looks, it definitely could be a weapon from the Borderlands video games (including ammunition type)
Fortunately I didn't need to! The only thing I did was let the toast sit out for a little after it came out of the toaster so the moisture content would go down a bit. If you look closely at the first shot of the exploding toast at 00:21, you can even see where the impact force of the jelly packet creates a perfect rectangular cutout in the upper part of the toast!
As an engineer I agree to a degree. But on stuff like this it's like painting miniatures, It's about telling a story not throwing very expensive plastic through a military campaign.
i never eat those sauces. they universally not taste food grade enough fo me. i will bring my original mayonaise to a burger place. so yea feel free to fire all of those canned sauces.

I love the sci-fi aesthetic you put into so many of your builds! I can't believe you haven't blown up on youtube yet with videos this good!
Thank you so much! And it’s an uphill battle, but maybe one day!
It surprises me you don't get more views, your content is incredibly high quality.

Wow really good video you are sure to take off soon! Not going to lie you did a really great job on the looks of the gun as well.

Nicely done. I disagree with intentionally "distressing" the look, though. Scars should be EARNED, not applied!
I certainly don't disagree. Though coming from the world of prop making, by the time something has earned it's scars, the shoot would already be over!
