Hello Steve, I enjoy watching your content. Unfortunately I had to be recovered last month, (loan DAF 510 and 2 x 20ft containers on a splitter trailer). But having watched your videos I was aware of making the recovery process safer by limping from a hard shoulder to a slip road to provide as safe a recovery location as possible (M18 SB to A1 junction) Very helpful and reassuring recovery driver who said he also watches your channel. We then drove back to Leeds and the loan DAF was handed back.
Thanks very much for watching and commenting , so pleased to hear these videos i do let people into the dangers we all face breaking down especially on motorways. Good to hear you had good service and helpfulness from one of my colleagues its all part of the job.
Long time since I've seen one of your vids. Glad to see the quality improve even more than before, and it was great. Keep it up and let's hope you reach a million.
Very interesting VLOG, I see you got the new heavier half inch drive Milwaukee! It never fails the differences between coupling devices from US to UK, Also your efforts to protect everyone's privacy is very polite. Stay safe my friend and thanks so much for your efforts. Cheers!!
I am very pleased that you also record the trips after the recovery from time to time, that is always very interesting as well! Thanks for the great video!👍🏻👍🏻
Your experience really shows when you know all the ins and outs of a particular truck. Knowing socket sizes, techniques needed to air it up, how to configure for towing, and everything else, makes for an efficient, safe, professional job. Very interesting to see you hauling such a long load through those tight streets. Great driving skills. Close call with that seagull !
Mad respect mate! I only drive a 18tonna but I've got class 1. I drive class 2 because I'm home every night for the kids, seriously respect for the job you do! I've been recovered before at my old class 1 job fully laden and you guys should be on about 20 25 quid an hour minium!! The guy who towed me away told me he was only on 14 quid an hour!
You towies are a breed of your own mate. Knowing more than many mechanics and managing to haul massive rigs on even the tightest roads. And without allways getting enough rest at that. I remember when I was working at the buss depo in my old hometown and a Scania boggie buss had just been towed into the workshop. Talked to the driver and said "You look a bit tired." (This was around 10pm) and he said "That's what happens when you haven't slept in 23 hours" It could just be that region but there is always a shortage of towies here and it's so bad that the cops look between the fingers at their work hours. But still they do the job in a professional and safe manner.
My heart jumped when that car went through the red light. I know the vid wouldn't have been posted if anything happened but that was still scary! Fascinating to see how you get this long, awkward load through these old communities.
Mad respect to you for what you do, nice to see someone who knows how to drive properly. I've thought about finding my way into recovery work when I get tired of driving a bus around in circles, been wanting to get my truck licence for a while but need to find the time and money to do it. A couple of mates who used to do cars and vans said recovery was never the easiest job, having your head on the road whilst traffic flies past at 60mph isn't everyone's cup of tea, but apparently it's quite fulfilling, you feel like you've achieved something and helped people out at the end of the day. Suppose that's what I want, really. That and a bit of variety. Where I am it's a choice between a big town with varied routes but rubbish passengers, or a small town with nice people but boring routes.
Expertly done as per usual. Impressed with your knowledge of different truck makes and their systems, especially the new trucks. Our cars got an electric handbrake, much prefer the old fashioned type! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the video Steve, I just thought you have an double artic one behind the cab and one on your under reach I don't envy you when reversing into a small bay. please can we have some more best regards Ken
Hi Neil , always plug into trailer at night mate for side lights on trailer but got into routine on using wireless board with number plate on it in day. Thanks for watching mate.
Hi steve, great video as always,i always enjoy watching the drive afterwards and would love to have longer footage of that but i appreciate you've usually got the driver in with you, have a great bank holiday monday🙂👍
Thanks again for an interesting video Steve. The finish stages can be more interesting than the pick-up! Your expertise is very evident with all your work, great to watch.
Hey Steve, Great vid as always, and bet the driver of that MAN unit was a bit flustered at breaking down on a loading bay at supermarket 😂, How did you make the wireless trailer board, did you have to put any steel plates on the board for the lights to stay and not fall off ?? Also where did you get your reusable tags that you use to hook the airlines to the unit without using the cable ties as they look extremely useful
Hi Dave , small brackets fix lights to old trailer board we had , them bungee ties our used by Scaffolders to fix taupling to poles normally get given them by the lads broken down.
From what I have read and know from a friend the blue line Steve connect to the tractor is a continuous feed of air to get the parking break off and the red line is the parking break for the trailer. the yellow line is the breaks. Doing this way you would have control over both parking break and breaks on the trailer
Hi Jamie thanks for watching, we run a red emergency line from my truck to trailer in case the unit comes detached from wrecker then the red line will brake snap and the trailer brakes will be applied.
Hi Jacob love the low line underlift but locker body i find narrow for storage and only fit small custom built tool box. Much prefer custom built body on other Daf , was able to fit all tools in one double locker keeping everything to hand.
Hi Lee , you can remove either half shaft to disconnect the drive to gearbox but easier to pull the half shaft without the diff lock mechanism as you find it easier to refit , thanks for watching.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve It is. I saw one of your trucks coming towards me towing a double decker bus in Beaconsfield the other day. Wasn’t you though.
I think I may have seen you on this one. The area looks familiar. I thought I seen you pulling out of the Sainsburys supermarket in Slough after I did my delivery on Uxbridge Road. I think that may actually be me in the 7.5t Iveco with blue curtains in front of you on the roundabout as you leave
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve Yeah, considering I live in Sunderland. But I tramp in a 7.5t all week doing general haulage. I been to that store couple times. I often spend the night about 3 miles away in a layby on Uxnridge Road by a Tesco/Esso Petrol station off a roundabout or if I am feeling flush, I will pay £40 to park at the Riverside Transport Cafe on the Colnbrook By-pass which includes a large meal and dessert and a shower for an additional £1.50
When towing heavy vehicles, does the load need to be removed before the towing can start since imagine needing the power to tow a 44t vehicle? I also cannot tell if 44t in the title means gross weight or its weight at the time it broke down.
Hi Annabel thanks very much for watching , 44t is the total weight the unit and trailer with load can operate in the UK on 6 axles. We recover these fully loaded quite often so your looking of a total combined weight of 64t with the recovery truck.
Thanks for watching , still should run with a Red Emergency line from my truck to trailer just in case the unit comes attached from the wrecker than the brakes will be applied on the trailer when the air line snaps. Thanks for commenting.
Hi Jason , by removing the half shaft you our disconnecting the drive to gearbox , saving any potential damage to the gearbox whilst being towed , have to disconnect drive on all commercial vehicles we recover.
Hi Thanks for watching , all depends if company has a spare unit available to send to collect trailer from breakdown location at time , as this broke down in supermarket loading area they probably wanted it gone.

Sounds like my accent from High Wycombe many moons ago, in Australia now, used to drive road trains here 4 trailers. Thanks for the video.

That's a good looking truck and trailer, surprised she broke down. The catwalk was a bit tight, good job you're not fat!
Hi Al , thanks for watching again , new trucks so much more to go wrong now.
Squeezing more and more space out of the cab. Also that trailer is a fridge unit with the motor but being a the headboard taking even more room out.

Grat vid Steve, silly question why don't you use the trailer lights on an artic when towing, easier to put sussie on than a trailer board.

Another brilliant video Steve. Quick question why do you use the second red line to a trailer if your main line is feeding the tractor?
From what I have read and know from a friend the blue line Steve connect to the tractor is a continuous feed of air to get the parking break off and the red line is the parking break for the trailer. the yellow line is the breaks. Hi Steve, another great video. What is your verdict on the new truck now you've used it a while?
Thanks for watching again Paul , prefer Boniface low line underlift but body lockers very narrow compared to custom made lockers on Roger Dysons.
Nice one, Brake,legs etc
Thanks for watching the channel.
Hi Steve it's been some time since you're last video. Just a well fare check mate. Trust you're well Steve, regards Gary.

Unfortunate to get issues on a brand spanking new unit, but thats the way it goes sometimes i guess.
Thanks for another cracking video Steve.
Hi Alex thanks for watching , its surprising how many newer trucks we recover now from all manufacturers now , glad you liked it.
Hi ❤watching your vlog.
Thanks for watching , glad you liked it.
How has the miller industries truck treated you?
Hi Jacob love the low line underlift but locker body i find narrow for storage and only fit small custom built tool box. Much prefer custom built body on other Daf , was able to fit all tools in one double locker keeping everything to hand.
Hi, great videos I really enjoy watching them. Can I ask why you have to remove a half shaft and does it matter which side you remove. Many thanks Lee
Hi Lee , you can remove either half shaft to disconnect the drive to gearbox but easier to pull the half shaft without the diff lock mechanism as you find it easier to refit , thanks for watching.
Another great recovery vid, Steve. I was in that same supermarket earlier 🤣

Loving the channel mate! Just out of curiosity, what sort of money are these recovery trucks?
150-200 k?
Hi Jason thanks for watching , i would of thought you be looking at 350k + for similar spec truck now.
