Well done mate, I’ve been at it for 10 years now on the heavy side, and for sure loaded 8 wheelers are heavy bits of kit to tow. Our heavy team appreciate your videos and your attention to detail. Much respect matey, stay safe out there.
Absolutely amazing, Steve! You are a total professional, with all the equipment VERY organised. You remain calm and collected, and don't rush it. Well done - a real craftsman!
Thanks! Might not work on EU trucks but I found on the Miller Holmes web page a light duty air actuator the clamps to the top of the brake pedal and the bottom of the steering wheel, Has a small air line connection that I couple to the trailer brake line when towing a straight truck. (Only works on my hand valve not the pedal)It works pretty well but can be kind of jumpy. Just a suggestion, I truely enjoy your work style and patients, Guess I'm spoiled working in large spaces, the long nose pete I operate would be totally useless to you. Stay safe.
Thoroughly professional. Really enjoyed watching that. It's a tough job but your voice tells us that whilst it is definitely hard work, you enjoy what you are doing. I'm an ex-railway worker and, a having spent a professional career in the thick of things, I know that enjoying what you do is an essential part of a working life. :-) 👍
I was recovered in an 8 wheeler Scania once, with a Fassi crane behind the cab and a two axle drag. 44 tonne gross, plus the wrecker. He had the advantage of brakes on the trailer, but we got to a mini roundabout on a slight up hill gradient and it just went in a straight line!!
Hi Steve. This may be a stupid Q but why do you need to disengage the prop shaft if the gearbox is in neutral? Is it to do with a lack of oil pressure in the gearbox?
Hi Steve, apart from the prop being some what stubborn quite a smooth recovery once you cleared that lay-by but fair play to the tipper driver for pulling into the lay-by and making the recovery safer.
Nothings better than watching some great content about trucks thanks for the amazing videos youre making kindly greetings from the netherlands and keep up the great content
I just saw your videos and i really like them. Maybe i will do the same thing ones from the netherlands. Its good to see how you guys do it up there. Last week i had to tow a 28ton 3axle truck with a dolly and trailer (25m total and 60ton) that with my own wheight of 35ton that makes a pretty hard pull. I will go ahead and watch you other video's now, keep up the good work bud!!
Brilliant Steve. Have been watching Trucks from Hell, and you are the most professional of them. They just act for the cameras. I could watch you and Ron Pratt and find enjoyment, not the programme on tv though. Keep the vlogs coming
You are one of the select few driving a manual truck, the Foden wrecker I drove had a rear axle blocker to keep the weight more on the front when towing heavy vehicles, another really interesting video.
Hi Steve. Heavy load!. Sooo much safer when they can make it to the lay-by. Too bad you had to pull the prop shaft - much easier with half shafts. Nice trick with the old sock! Very tight maneuvering in that yard. You're a pro!
UA-cam recommended one of your videos, watched quite a few now, very interesting and great work! Out of interest, why couldn't you remove the half shafts on this truck?
Hi Jim thanks for watching, on a Scania with double drive you would have to remove 2 half shafts but this had hub reduction axles which would requiring stripping down to disconnect drive. Prop easiest option on double drive axles just 4 bolts.
Hi hardave thanks for watching , if stolen the steering lock would most likely been taken out , so steering should still be able to turn. But if unable to get steering to turn and fully loaded , our low loaded be best option with retractable air line to blow off brakes and winch up.
Hey there, I looked through your videos and want to ask you if you know the vdz system. It’s a recovery system that use the (front) so the front axil don’t need to be lifted. It used to be easier in some situations, like in this video with the heavy load.
I see on a lot of the videos you loop the suzies over the lower of the mirror arms. Have you encountered the newer Mercedes-Benz with mirrorcams on instead of normal mirrors? If so where do you hang the suzies from?
Thanks for watching, i came off door handles or step with a small bungee, i have recovered a few now when mirror cameras have failed it was always going to happen.
Hi Steve great job just 1 question why do you not leave the front axle on the floor taking the strain and use the underlift like an A frame as I have seen other company's doing that with 8 wheel tippers
Great vid! Have you ever worked for Kardos? You have a familiar voice, and I feel like you may have recovered me and my 50ft Volvo from Hanger Lane A40 up to Beaconsfield a number of years ago...
Thank you so much for giving an insight in your Job. Super interesting videos. And I admire you're coolnes when other traffic arround you does stupid things or you have to manoever arround tight spots. Thanks again for entertaining and informing.
Hi Steve, I found your channel the other day and am absolutely obsessed! I'm in the middle of HGV training so hope (mean this as nice as possible lol) that I never meet you!! All the best 👍
Another great video Steve! You mention that your truck will be the only vehicle doing all the breaking. Does that mean the only reason you supply air to the truck being towed is to prevent the brakes coming on? Is that the same for trailers on artics? Would it ever be possible to rear lift a loaded dumper or would that need a total lift?
Hi thanks for watching, on trucks we just supply air to keep brakes off only not able to brake them. Unit and trailers we supple air to unit still and 2 air lines to trailer, red lines supplies air to trailer and yellow line brakes the trailer from the wrecker. Not possible to rear lift a loaded 32t as you lifting most of the vehicles weight.
Love the comments and work towing you set for rigids, eight wheelers and artics one quick question I have when you took apart propshaft for one part of control of vehicle and weight with the brake lines did you feed just red or yellow lines for brake feed lines to truck with your own truck brakes and retarder best wishes from Ireland cheers Declan 👍👍🙏🙏
Hi Declan thanks for watching, just fitted air line to keep the brakes released, no way of braking the tipper with my truck so steady drive back, using my truck brakes and retarder.
At the end could you show us you putting whatever happened back like the prop shaft and that cus I want to see that it would be so cool love the vids by the way keep it up and enjoy life👍

Hi Matthew thanks for kind comments , i try and hopefully film something of interest , not always possible over here most vehicles have company names that have to be covered up.
if you had to disconnect the propshaft, it should mean that otherwise it would move the diff. so... the propshaft spins as you tow the vehicle, right? doesnt that spinning propshaft make the strap loose? Can the propshaft wrap the strap around itself?
Hi Zoltan , prop shaft does not turn as it been disconnected from the drive wheels on the truck , so the drive wheels turn still but no movement in prop shaft and gearbox.

Thanks for the sub!
Hi Steve. This may be a stupid Q but why do you need to disengage the prop shaft if the gearbox is in neutral? Is it to do with a lack of oil pressure in the gearbox?
Hi Aaron , we need to disconnect the drive to gearbox to safeguard any potential damage in recovery process, regardless auto or manual gearbox.
Love watching your videos could watch you driving for hours!
Thanks very much for watching Tom, glad you enjoy them.
Excellent job 👍🏼

Phenomenal driving mate. One question tho. Is your DAF a manual or automatic?
Thanks for watching, Daf got 16 speed manual gerabox.
Any particular reason why your recovery machine is with a manual gear box? Just to have more control with what the gears do when towing heavy stuff?
Thanks for watching, truck was already in stock with Boniface so thats how it come with manual box, but does give you more control over auto gearbox.

Can someone explain why you have to remove the drive shaft?
Thanks for watching, i removed the prop shaft to disconnect the drive to gearbox , saving any potential damage to gearbox.
Quality 🙂
Thanks for watching Steve.
Why do you have to disconnect the drive shaft??
Hi Neville thanks for watching, half shaft removed removed to disconnect drive to gearbox, safeguarding and damage to gearbox in towing.
Is towing without removing half shafts or taking the prop shaft off a guarantee of a knackered gear box Steve?
Hi Michael thanks for watching, yes apparently so mate, all truck manufacturers state to tow there vehicle the drive must be disconnected.

Hi Jay , could tow up to 70 tonnes but with single drive axle , we probably use double drive wreckers for that kind of tow.
It's hard enough driving a tipper, can't imagine towing one.

Hi Robert , only air line to keep brakes off mate , no way to operate brakes on tipper with another air line. Thanks for watching.
