If anyone is hesitant to pick up this book because they are afraid of another annoying love triangle- don't worry. The female protagonist is not one of those irritating characters that spend all their time wavering back and forth between two swoon worthy males. She knows what her heart wants.
abookutopia No you were right, as I read from the synopsis: "Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan". Khorasan is a Persian city, so the settings is Persian. Sharazad name is also Parsian. However, Tariq and Khalid are Arabic names.
The origins of the original story are Persian and Indian but some of the stories Sheherazade tells are arabic. But you were right, the setting is Persian :)
abookutopia Yup ur right, at that time Khorasan was part of Persia, now I think it's part of Iran. I love that setting! I'm halfway through the book, and I'm team Khalid!! :D He's a gorgeous character! Her handmaid is cute in her own way, too :) Can't wait to finish this book today!
abookutopia "The tales themselves trace their roots back to ancient and medieval Arabic, Persian, Indian, Egyptian and Mesopotamian folklore and literature " wiki , but the setting is persia. you were right
this book was soooo good i've been fangirling about it and recommending it to friends since i finished. khalid reminded me of warner from the shatter me series and i was imagining him as zayn malik. (also your makeup is on point in this video just saying)
No, this book has an Arabic setting. The names, Shahrazad, Khalid, and Tariq are all Arabic names. 1001 Nights is one of the most famous stories in the Arab world, and when we were kids, it was our bedtime story. I have to say though that there are so many versions of it here, in the Arab world.
beaub m Oh I just read the synopsis: "Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan". Khorasan is a Persian city, so the settings is Persian as well :D
Zainab Al Lawati Well, it is true that now Khorasan is under Iran, but back in the days, there were no country called Iran. The rule was under the caliph (Islamic caliph) who was Arabic, and all the Islamic empire was one! Also, most of the words used in this book are Arabic. The ones in the glossary. If you search qamis in google, you're going to find it an arabic word, not a Persian one. Most of the words in the glossary are common used Arabic words. I know this is an old conversation but after I've read the book, I could understand more about the setting, and everything else.
beaub m I think she’s blended Middle Eastern cultures since she uses Arab names and surnames yet uses Persian phrases like tavalodet mobarak (book 2). Also the story is set in khorasan which used to be made up of parts of Afghanistan,Iran and other countries in Central Asia. I don’t know if she did this on purpose to make the story seem universal or if it’s due to a lack of research. Either way,it was definitely an interesting read (btw I’m Persian for reference)
I loved The Wrath and The Dawn! It's probably one of my favorite books of the year so far! I just found it so enchanting and well written! I'm really excited for The Rose and The Dagger!
Hi Sasha! I saw this review video a few months ago and I was really pumped to read The Wrath and The Dawn. I just finished the book today and I was just captivated with the story. It was THAT BEAUTIFUL. It definitely made me realize a lot of new things about life that I never knew before. It LITERALLY rocked my world and changed my life. It's now one of my all-time favorite books and I want to thank you for that. Thanks for making a video that would lead me into a wonderful journey with this book. I hope you'll make more videos like this because I am really looking forward to reading more amazing books. BTW I'm Team Khalid! Team Khalid FTW! :D
Sasha I want to thank you from my whole heart ! I was in a reading slump for quite a long while and i just couldn't and couldn't find somethong that catches my mind. After watching this review last evening something snapt in me and i was like " This is it!" So this morning I went and bought it and i just finnished it 2 h. ago and it was absolutely amazing! Thank you ! My old me is baaaaaackkkk!!!!😂😂
Really love the jeweled headband thing 😂 sorry I forgot what its called. I always look forward to your book reviews, and you made me really excited because I get to visit Scotland during my winter break to visit family. Love your vids! ❤❤😊
As always you spark a hunger in me for buying more books!! I have to literally do a book haul on my channel next week because of the amount of books you have recommended! Guess I will be adding this to the basket hehe 💕
Been wanting to read this ever since I saw your review and I have to say I am not disappointed! It was freaking amazing and I need the sequel like now T.T also team Khalid forever
Oh my gosh! I loved this book so much! It was so amazing! I heard of it first when you mentioned it in one of your videos and really wanted to read it. Thank you so much! 😁 I am totally team Khalid! He is so amazing!
As mentioned below, some names are Arabic but the setting is in Persia and the italicized words are mostly in Farsi (I speak Farsi (language of Persians) so I know for sure joonam means my everything idk if its the same for Arabic). The author's husband is Iranian too so thats some of the Persian influence. Love your videos and the book.
I've been seeing this book all over my Tumblr and I definitely want to pick it up! I loved the review and you've made my need to buy it even more extreme!
Everyone's been talking about this book, but you've finally convinced me to go read it...once I get through all of the books I'm currently reading. Which is way too many.
I fell in love with your channel, but then I stopped watching it for a while. I just started watching again and I really do love you reviews, you tell us a lot of information without really giving away too much and yet you still use your honest opinion which most people don't use in order to impress the author. Although because I haven't watched your channel for a while I do not know if you have read fated by Alyson Noel for the rest of her books, she is by far one of my favorite authors you really should try reading her books.
I know this is random but I bought The Red Queen because you mentioned it in one of your videos, annnddddddd IM OBSESSSED!!! I'm trying so hard not to read it all at once 😭
I'm probably a bit biased because I've read the second book "The Rose and the Dagger," but I definitely didn't feel the love triangle vibe that you were talking about. I mean, even before you read it, the synopsis clearly gives away that Shahrzad and Khalid are going to fall in love. And by the end, she pure told Tariq this, but it's been a while since I've read the first book so I don't know. A great review, by the way!
The best thing about knowing multiple languages is that you're pretty good at pronouncing any other language haha! I seriously need to read this. Just got a B&N coupon so I think it's time to get it. I love reading books that are set in a different culture than my own :-)
I felt that the ending was deserved. If it hadn't happened it would've felt wrong, but I'm still so sad since I wasn't feeling Tariq that much. I loved Rahim, though! Shahrzad is a smart girl. Her grief for her friend Shiva was heartfelt to the point were she would take her little sister's place and kill Khalid himself. The saying that I'll use your secret and I'll kill you with it, OMG! I love Despina and Jalal even though I wish their relationship was more visible, but it wasn't for all the right reasons!
I just finished this book while I was in class and ohmygoodness I don't know what to do now I need the next one! I can't wait for it! I am team Khalid all the way omg!
This is definitely a book that I'll reread, and I don't reread books that often! Shazi was so amazing and I loved how she spoke her mind ALL THE TIME. I need the second book to come out, I need more of this world! Oh, and Team Khalid for the win!!
This book is set in Khorasan which was a historical region lying in northeast of Greater Persia, including part of Central Asia and Afghanistan. Renée Ahdieh confirmed it herself. The names are Arabic because Persian/Afghan names are driven from Arabia and that is still common. Some of the words are in Farsi/Dari and some people get confused as they think it is Arabic because the words are slightly similar to Arabic. It is set in Persia. The language used in the book(duology) is Farsi/Dari. Anyways, the duology is absolutely amazing and beyond outstanding. I loved it. My all time favourite mainly because of Renée’s writting and the setting and the characters. Your makeup is on point.
I also really enjoyed this book. I finally read it after hearing reviews that this book was good. When I found out the real reason why he kills his wives, it was unexpected. I didn't see it coming. I give this book 5 stars too. I checked out the second book but I haven't read it yet. I'm reading the novella of Throne of Glass. I'm on #TeamKharzad
I first saw this book from this video and really liked what its telling so ı finally got it and it was amazing! I wanted to thank you so much for this video becasue it is now one of my favourite books. love you :*
whaaat nooooooooo i thought the next book was already out but it isn't now im gonna cry. loooooooooved this book though. its was a constant surprise. i didn't know what to expect at all.
This might be a bit late, but I just saw your outdoor book haul and you showed us How I Found You, a book that had you on the cover! Is there a video where you told how that happened? If not, you need to make one! I'm sooo curious!
I'm currently reading this book, but I haven't been reading it as much as I could have, but because of your review, I'm going to pick it up and read it instead of watching Netflix.
I think you should do reviews for books that are currently popular on booktube. Even if you don't really enjoy it, it's good to know because i really trust your opinion and I think it would help a lot of people. Not to sound rude lol but loved this video.
This video makes me really want to read this book ;) The characters and the plot lines sounds really good! And, Love is mentioned in this, makes me want to read this more! :D Love it! Can't wait for another video!
I'm currently reading this book and it's AMAZING. It's an Iraqi setting and i love the way you pronounce Tariq's name but considering I'm arab it's wrong.
Thanks for this review and recommending it! I am currently halfway done with this book and I listen to this song called Marco Polo by Loreena Mckennitt while reading it. If this book becomes a movie, this song will be perfect for it. So far, I am in love with the story! You're right. It is sooo good and I haven't even finish reading yet.
If you still use Scribd, they have the audiobook on there that might help with the pronunciation of character names! I definitely would have pronounced the names wrong if I didn't listen to parts of the audiobook haha

I would like to say something about the book this book is actually an Arabian book(the main idea is taken from an Arabian book) they got the same names and the same stories the thing that got me mad about this book is that the author takes the main book's idea and changes the title and the author's name to his name ....The Arabian book said that people spent years and years to write the book although the author is still unknown because it was mainly written through ages!!
Was anyone else thinking of DJ Khalid while reading this?? xD.... I really loved this book....Renee's writing style is so delicious...I could gobble it all up...
I'm an Arab and I was happy that an author used Middle Eastern folk tales and fairy tales. Gosh, it brought back many memories, I loved this book ahh.
Also, personally I don't think that there'll be a love triangle. I really believe that Renee wanted to show that Shazi was over Tariq.
I hope Tariq knows that! I think he sees it
I think he knows it but he'll annoy us to no end till he accepts it. :p
If anyone is hesitant to pick up this book because they are afraid of another annoying love triangle- don't worry. The female protagonist is not one of those irritating characters that spend all their time wavering back and forth between two swoon worthy males. She knows what her heart wants.
Rose J. Cough, cough, America Singer
lol
Oops my bad! It's not Persian but Arabic, got a bit confused!
Is her hair naturally red or brown
abookutopia No you were right, as I read from the synopsis: "Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan". Khorasan is a Persian city, so the settings is Persian. Sharazad name is also Parsian.
However, Tariq and Khalid are Arabic names.
Alena De luna brown but she slays with both

abookutopia did you know that it is a retelling of Arabian Nights? yeh...
It's actually Turkish 😊
abookutopia where did you get your head dress!?!
i just reviewed this too! i looooved it as well! :D
Just watched your review and loved it!
thanks so much!! 💕
this book was soooo good i've been fangirling about it and recommending it to friends since i finished. khalid reminded me of warner from the shatter me series and i was imagining him as zayn malik. (also your makeup is on point in this video just saying)
Omg same!!
Omg me too he reminded me so much of Warner. So when he said destroy me to shahrzad, I almost died!!
+Rachel Michelle Holy crap! I was thinking the exact same thing! No wonder he seemed so similar to Warner. I even love them both! :D
Omg I totally Imagined him as Zayn Malik too !! Just to have a sexy middle eastern in mind 😂
JIMIN

the original story is from Persia,Iraq,Egypt and India i'm iraqi btw ☺
I'm currently reading this book, but I haven't been reading it as much as I could have, but because of your review, I'm going to pick it up and read it instead of watching Netflix.
You look stunning!
I think you should do reviews for books that are currently popular on booktube. Even if you don't really enjoy it, it's good to know because i really trust your opinion and I think it would help a lot of people. Not to sound rude lol but loved this video.

I'm currently reading this book and it's AMAZING. It's an Iraqi setting and i love the way you pronounce Tariq's name but considering I'm arab it's wrong.
team Khalid all the way!
Thanks for this review and recommending it! I am currently halfway done with this book and I listen to this song called Marco Polo by Loreena Mckennitt while reading it. Your recommendation made me read this book. And My God. I loveddd it!!! Couldnt put it down!! Thanks Sasha! :D

Plus the cover is super unique
I love you so much. You are my goals when it come to reading. Your so inspirational.
Thanks Sasha totally just added this to my tbr
If you still use Scribd, they have the audiobook on there that might help with the pronunciation of character names! I definitely would have pronounced the names wrong if I didn't listen to parts of the audiobook haha
I want to read this book soooooo badly!! This totally helped me decide whether to buy it or not! =D
The way you pronounced Tariq was so funny and cute! It's pronounced: Tar (like car) - riq (like lick) with a strong Q sound from the back of your throat, and a hard and deep T.
I CANT WAIT TO READ THIS!
I listened to the audiobook. You got the pronunciation of the names quite right. So don't worry.
I just finished the series and loved it as well!! Love Tariq but definitely Team Khalid all the way!
I just finished it and I can't wait for the next book!
Did anyone noticed that Reza, Shiva's father, may be the one responsible for the attempt on Shazi's life? I realized that during the last chapter, Reza's companions have the mark of the scarab!
I really want to read this book and your review even more confirmed it :)
