    I attest to breathing out too fast too soon. It induces panic and sinking feeling. I am practicing mindful breathing, small trickle and bubble out when head is turning before clearing for air intake; no big air rushing out, no gulping air in desperation. I practice daily to drill everything right into deep subconscious.

    These videos are immensely helpful! Any tips on how to keep your legs straight? I tend to rotate my legs compared to my upper body, like the body should be a straight line but I tend to have an angle between my upper and lower body, I believe due to over rotation.

    im suprised you didnt talk about torso vs hip vs both driven strokes, this guy is all torso driven, engaging his core muscles and bringing in a more rotational kick would improve his DPS like crazy

  • @robohippy
    @robohippy Рік тому +1

    It is hard to tell from the video, but it looks like he starts his recovery stroke too soon, like right at the hip bone rather than going full length. Underwater video is really needed for full analysis. I can't remember which video it was, but you did one on getting full extension of your arms with freestyle. I think there was even a drill that went with it.

  • @sujstet

    Good observations.. i feel he is dropping his elbow quite alot and his hand is closed and not relaxed whilst entering (now it looks more like arrows into the water). Also the hand should be cutting near wrists and there should be connection with hands and legs opposite kick. A little glide in the front end would help to gain that extra distance.. the rotation is fine as long as he is going for a hip driven technique

  • @anthonyhett
    @anthonyhett Рік тому +3

    He definitely looks like he is exhaling too quickly and too hard (most likely through the mouth). Instead of holding onto the breath though, couldn’t he try to exhale slowly out of the nose over a longer period of time - in order to keep his breathing and body relaxed, instead of holding his breath and tensing his body?

    • @EffortlessSwimming
      @EffortlessSwimming  Рік тому +3

      light exhale through the nose is fine also, you can see the female swimmer doing that in the video

  • @chusett
    @chusett Рік тому

    I only breath out right before i need to inhale. Otherwise i am barely exhaling.. maybe a few very small bubbles off each pushoff/flip but its true when I first started swimming I kept exhaling and it was no good for me. My imstructor told me i should exhale VERY slowly the entire time underwater but I quickly realized I was better off not exhaling at all. But to each their own.

    • @alwynpereira7363

      I’m not able to exhale steadily and end up holding my breath. Are you now able to swim long distances with your approach?

    • @chusett
      @chusett 8 місяців тому

      @@alwynpereira7363 I can do decent distances. My fastest 500m is 8:47 and fastest 1000m is 19:26. My method works for me because I breath every 2 strokes so I am able to get air pretty soon from the previous breath. Also, I find holding air in your lungs makes you more buoyant which for me is a bigger priority than other people because I have a lot of muscle mass and heavy legs from powerlifting for years.
      So I basically take my breath, hold it for most of the 2 strokes, and exhale it out as my face is turning out of the water for the inhale. It takes a little practice but basically its an exhale and immediate inhale. I have friends that swim using 3 stroke bilateral breathing or even 4 stroke unilateral breathing but ive found 2 stroke uni works best for me. But if I am racing someone I would probably only breath once in the middle of the lap and then once after the flip turn.
      I gradually learned to control the exhale slowly by doing many 25m underwater laps where trickling exhale is crucial. I just find it annoying to trickle the exhale during freestyle though so when i do distance swims I maintain my old method.

      at the moment, I have found comfort in a 2 stroke breathing pattern. Yet to master it to stay relaxed and swim longer, and I'm glad to know that it has worked so well for you.

    • @chusett
      @chusett 8 місяців тому +1

      @@alwynpereira7363 yes! Eventually you will get comfortable with it and not even feel an issue with breathing. These days when I get tired its usually shoulders or hamstrings.
      Make sure when you exhale you are getting all the air out, so there isnt any leftover co2. Also dont gasp for air on the inhale, psychologically it may seem gasping allows us to take in a bigger breath but in reality it sets into motion a degree of panic and likely increased heart rate. Just breath as relaxed as you can, and know even a small breath is enough really as you will be able to surface again in 2 strokes.
      Good luck!

    Bubble bubble breathe... That's the swim smooth mantra. It didn't work for me. I still haven't figured out the breathing, most coaches tell me to breathe out more when i talk to them about this problem. But that has never really solved it. I'm going to try this in my next few sessions.
