Had my swimming lesson today I’ve been struggling with breathing and watched this video before I went omg massive help by rotating my body as I’ve just been trying to move my head. Something that you think should be easy is so hard especially for a 40 year man to try and learn. Best thing I have ever done. I love it so much being in the water.
omg same.. finally someone that gets us. i feel like most of people who teach swimming are clueless of student mind and think about it like this " its easy, rotate your head and take breath then go back" but luckily for us someone broke it down step by step and problems that face beginners
I just started swim lesson last week and this is definitely my biggest issue. This video does a great job of breaking everything down along with the visuals
Best breathing video I’ve seen yet. I’m a new adult freestyle swimming enthusiast and can’t wait to try this out. My max thus far is 2 laps without stopping so hopefully this can get me to 4 laps.
@@griddlegary2312 I had gone today for swimming. My technique is perfect the only thing I am having trouble is at breathing, I swallow some water while turning my body and head to breathe. Ig it will take like 2 weeks to become totally natural
@@Ballondor1909 it’s definitely tricky but once u figure it out it’s second nature. For me it was having my shoulder lead the way which got my head in right place so I wasn’t taking on water. Good luck!
I can't even remember learning how to breathe when swimming, and not just because I am old, turning 70 later this year. This is probably the most common sense method of teaching breathing technique that I have seen. You don't dumb it down so far that the viewer goes to sleep.... I swim the old school over arm side stroke, which was removed from competition in 1900 and replaced with the much slower breast stroke. That style of side stroke might make a good way of starting people learning how to breathe. Kind of a combination of the one arm pull drill as the top arm comes out of the water and over the top like freestyle, but you stay on your side, which is also a kicking drill. Under arm does breast stroke pull out stroke. I use flutter kick as it is faster than the scissor kick, which creates huge amounts of drag. Only record is 1:02.5, set in 1895.... Since you are on your side, almost no rotation is needed. Swim one length on one side, and the next length on the other side...
Very simple, but valuable inputs. I was struggling to keep my head low while taking in air. Now I understand how it can be done in a simple manner. It was a crisp but beautifully presented video. Thank you so much
It takes a lot of practice being a senior swim newbie. It took me months of pool time only to get a sense of free style rhythm (and to build up swimming muscle). I have just begun the shoulder rotation phase; will take a month or more to lock it down. I do better in breast stroke. However breathing equal and easy for each lap is not natural yet. However I know when everything being right doing breast stroke is like (kind of like runner’s high), as if I can swim for a long time.
Excellent video. I trained for years for masters swimming and never really got the hang of the body rotation. The drills in this video look very helpful so I will use them
I have been struggling with the side breathing. Ive been turning just my head to the side and not with the rest of my body! This video is a life saver and can defo see how this will help me improve! Thank you so much
Guys, I would sell a limb to be coached by you guys. I’m 8 days into my swim classes and get 0.002% of input but I magically began working on shoulder rotations and gave up twisting my neck alone. Seeing this, I realise that’s where my focus needs to lie. Thanks.
Rotating the body will give the extra room to breathe....Wow..that's the nicest tip i ever got which my instructor failed to tell me. I joined the swimming lessons last week and have already started feeling anxious because of the struggle to breath.. I am going to hit the pool today and will definitely try this out. Thanks heaps mate!
Dude, this is by far the best tutorial for freestyle breathing. My neck is so stiff. I'll try body rotation. Also exercise on land is awesome. Thank you.
I love using my front snorkel, it’s made a huge difference to feeling the rotation and elongating out from fingertips to toes without the added stress of breathing and it keeps my head neutral. I wasn’t sure if it was frowned upon but v happy to see you endorsing it as a training aid. So much technique to learn but finally I’m beginning to enjoy it, all thanks to warming up with the snorkel.
This makes so much sense, always wondered how I would turn my neck enough to breathe in water without twisting it! Good luck to your channel, you should be crushing it!

Great video as it explains and demonstrates how to improve ones breathing with slight turning of shoulders down to waist. Never too late to learn as I'm 78 1/2 yrs old and unlearning some bad habits.
I saw this yesterday, practiced the rotation a little bit, head straight only shoulder to be rotated while breathing. Rotation during the recovery breathing is the key. Little , though, but see improvement in my swimming today. I am a scary swimmer, gasping for breath with every 20 sec of swimming. But not going to give up, nonetheless. Thank you very much.
Thanks for the video.I have a doubt.I started swimming free style 5 months back.Didn’t actually do any swimming course.Learned bits and pieces from videos or ask doubt to experts when I get a chance.I am able to swim long distance now (2000meters ) but I stop every 100 meters coz I get tired.I think the mistake is in breathing.I inhale through mouth by lifting head sideways and then exhale through nose.In the other videos I checked today I think the right way is to inhale and exhale through the mouth. Is this right Can anyone correct me please
This is only the second video I have viewed from your group - I have homework to do! A delightful combination of clearly described concepts tightly linked to video demos, in an order that makes sense. Particularly helpful for me - the blending of body rotation and head turning. I might be able to leave some water in the pool. 🙃
Thank You for the hint and the tips. Will go to practice it, since freestyle made me confused how to not run out of air. Now, with the instruction from your vid, hopefully will make my freestyle more better.
Thank you so much for this technique, i have been struggling a lot, my friends are able to do this movement but when i try it, i swallow water. I will definitely try this technique!!
Hi coach you are very very nice with your guys swimmers and easy way to Teach really I hope to be with you I am watching you from Saudi Arabia my Regards for all of you 😍🇸🇦😍
Awesome video..very helpful and helpful hints about what we can do to help ourselves on dry land by rotating with broom to practice that action outside of the water
I am a new swimmer and I have a small question, should we hold our breath and exhale all at once right before the inhalation? Watch @2:54, at least that's what I understood. Correct me if I am wrong.
learing to swim for last 1 year . very upset with myself for not making progress with breathing whlilst having perfect coach your ved will definately help me many thanks
Can you tell us, here in the comments or in a video, how much air should the swimmer exhale? I saw that the girl at 3:17 she exhales many air to inhale again
Dear Sir, I still have a challenge related to the position of my mouth. After I inhale the air from my mouth, what should my mouth be in when I return my head to the water, should my mouth start excreting bubbles directly? Or should it be closed and a little after my head is in the water start blowing bubbles
Instead of losing weight from swimming, I'm gaining weight from swallowing a lot of water during inhaling. This video is very helpful.

Same thoughts here but I’m 52 youngster.
Great comment! Curious how many laps u can swim now 9 months later? I’m still a work in progress 2 months in but find it very addictive
