Instead of losing weight from swimming, I'm gaining weight from swallowing a lot of water during inhaling. This video is very helpful.

Had my swimming lesson today I’ve been struggling with breathing and watched this video before I went omg massive help by rotating my body as I’ve just been trying to move my head. Something that you think should be easy is so hard especially for a 40 year man to try and learn. Best thing I have ever done. I love it so much being in the water.

omg same.. finally someone that gets us. i feel like most of people who teach swimming are clueless of student mind and think about it like this " its easy, rotate your head and take breath then go back" but luckily for us someone broke it down step by step and problems that face beginners

I can't even remember learning how to breathe when swimming, and not just because I am old, turning 70 later this year. This is probably the most common sense method of teaching breathing technique that I have seen. You don't dumb it down so far that the viewer goes to sleep.... I swim the old school over arm side stroke, which was removed from competition in 1900 and replaced with the much slower breast stroke. That style of side stroke might make a good way of starting people learning how to breathe. Kind of a combination of the one arm pull drill as the top arm comes out of the water and over the top like freestyle, but you stay on your side, which is also a kicking drill. Under arm does breast stroke pull out stroke. I use flutter kick as it is faster than the scissor kick, which creates huge amounts of drag. Only record is 1:02.5, set in 1895.... Since you are on your side, almost no rotation is needed. Swim one length on one side, and the next length on the other side...

It takes a lot of practice being a senior swim newbie. It took me months of pool time only to get a sense of free style rhythm (and to build up swimming muscle). I have just begun the shoulder rotation phase; will take a month or more to lock it down. I do better in breast stroke. However breathing equal and easy for each lap is not natural yet. However I know when everything being right doing breast stroke is like (kind of like runner’s high), as if I can swim for a long time.

I love using my front snorkel, it’s made a huge difference to feeling the rotation and elongating out from fingertips to toes without the added stress of breathing and it keeps my head neutral. I wasn’t sure if it was frowned upon but v happy to see you endorsing it as a training aid. So much technique to learn but finally I’m beginning to enjoy it, all thanks to warming up with the snorkel.

I saw this yesterday, practiced the rotation a little bit, head straight only shoulder to be rotated while breathing. Rotation during the recovery breathing is the key. Little , though, but see improvement in my swimming today. I am a scary swimmer, gasping for breath with every 20 sec of swimming. But not going to give up, nonetheless.

    Can anyone correct me please
