I have only been swimming a couple of years and had never seen the paddle on the head drill before and coincidentally my swim coach gave this to me last week. Been struggling with it all week.
Thanks a lot for the video... My coach always tells me that my breathing has a wrong timing but because of this video I think might just improve my breathing...👍👍
2:57-3:00 So Gregorio Paltrinieri does the breathing style you don't recommend ? Yeah, I observe the Italian long distance swimmer did 2 beat kick in 800m and 1500m. Florian Wellbrock is one of my fav long distance swimmers, because of nice high elbow arm recovery and his use of two side breathing, compared to Grant Hacket who only breath on the right side.
When I just turn my head to the side , my mouth doesn’t come out of water and I end up drinking water 😭 I have been struggling with freestyle breathing so much I have been practicing hard as well😭
firstly, it depends on your head position under water: if you look too far ahead it would be harder to turn it properly. try overcorrecting and look str8 below you to check if that helps. secondly, make sure the crown of your head is leaning towards the water when you turn you head. thirdly, air pocket created by your head when swimming fast helps to turn less. try fins to increase speed and get that feeling.
Hey man, I kinda get tired too fast in the water, when I breathe, it is like I need to breathe the whole time, I cant just hold it for 10 seconds. Am 21 yo and I do not smoke.
@@riderpsychopate I go slow on breaststroke but I cant, it is exhausting a lot of energy (bresthe). Regarding freestyle, I go fast and I get the breathe on side etc so I dont feel it very much.
AMV 1. Go slower. 2. Try to breath one to two lanes every 3rd stroke, then every 4th stroke and so on (I practise this with every 8th stroke), then reduce (e.g. 3-4-5-6-7-8-7-6-5-4-3). 3. Try to dive w/o fins, e.g. 4x 25m. 4. Exhale as much as you can UNDER water so you can breath in more air when your head is above the water. Good luck!
search all of "breathing" videos that Brent has produced. Maybe one of the most frequent problems we newbies have.....Triathalon Taren has a lot of them as well. You've got to slow down usually.
Concerning the position, this cannot apply for swimming in the sea, right? Especially when the sea is a bit rough. I almost drowned the other day while swimming in chalkidiki in Greece and a wave came into my face exactly as I was turning to breathe. You need to see the sky and lift the head when you breathe. Any advice is welcome.

If the wave is coming from the right side, then just breath to the right. Then you won’t have the problem of getting the wave in your Face when you are breathing. And you won’t need to lift your head up.
I'm also an ocean swimmer and I also struggle everytime when there is chop. It has become a bit better lately with a lot (2 years) of practice but my pace is still significantly slower in choppy conditions than it is in calm sea. Breathing away from the waves may not be a solution for somebody who can only breath to one side (like me).
I am plenty happy to just hear you analyze the stroke brotha, I can live without the music. I find it bothersome, truth be told, but I understand you and/or other may prefer the soundtrack. If that’s the case, can it be a bit more of a background feature, like it is the 2nd half of the vid? Many thanks and much love.
Yeah! That could be vicious! And I thought I was going to pool to escape the pounding of the pavement... which I do actually love, but my middle-aged body isn't so much. Paddles?! Yikes! Who knew?!

Great video! Very helpful indeed. Thanks
The best videos out there for beginners and advanced no doubt thanks man
Thx man! Once again very good video!
Great video, thanks! In my experience a bit of extra glide helps as well with the breathing
Thanks a lot for the video... My coach always tells me that my breathing has a wrong timing but because of this video I think might just improve my breathing...👍👍
So did your breathing has improved in freestyle?
good suggestions thanks
Come to New York for one of your swim clinics
You make me love freestyle and miss the water
Thanks
Excellent video.
Thanks for aploading the video now my stroke is lot better🙂
What kind of swim paddle should I buy? Are there paddle types that are useful for other drills?
Effin great mate!
Pools are still closed in my area 😔
Great explanation but the music makes so difficult to pay attention
Kindof digging the background music for these tip based videos. I'm not sure I'd like it during analysis videos...

Where is that link of breathing drill ?
same question here!
Thanks for this very good video
Unfortunately I now have to swim with a nose clip. So all my exhalation is through the mouth. Manageable but not ideal.

Lack of body and hip rotation.

How does the paddle stay on the cap?
It stays on because you’re moving through the water and the paddle stays next to your head.
Where do u guys swim these days? I’ve been away from pool for almost 6 months.
Same here in Peru. Swimming academies are waiting Government’s approval for reopening.
❤

try and reduce your speed and number of strokes, go slower

@@amv7192 If it's worse on breaststroke (which is odd), the only thing I can think of is that you're panicking. You should be relaxed in the water.

Yes that's right! Great idea, thanks!
lady Marianne I typically turn my head a litte bit backwards when I breath (with big waves)
Thnx for the tip!

If you rotate your trunk, breathing at the side is automatically simple.
i still can't breathe well so i decided not to breathe. i just take less breaths.

how many also hit themselves in the face with a paddle after this video? 😅

why is he using a footage of horrible form as his ending?
