Haha the polish on my left hand was a bit messier than usual but the right was spot on! 💅 I usually paint at the very edge of a table but had to have my arms outstretched further and at a different angle to get them on camera, so I wasn't sure how it would go x
Another couple of tips to make your mani last longer : Always seal the free edge of the nail when applying each coat of base, colour and top coat. This way there are no chips. I understand this will be easier to do for those who have longer nails. Another one would be to make sure there's a gap between the lower edge of the polish and cuticle, and making sure the top coat is closer to the cuticle than the polish is. This will prevent shrinkage, which is common with quick-dry top coats :)
Niveda Manohar • I find that sealing the tips causes more chipping. And when it chips, it’s often a larger piece. Without sealing the tips it’s a more gradual wear.
@@eleo_b I seal the tip with just the basecoat and the top coat because I noticed the same issue as you... Too many layers at the tip can be counterproductive
@@matildaonvideo I know it's not your fault and you're not Olive and June, but that isn't true cause Holo Taco is shipped internationally from the US. Got mine and I'm in the UK :)

I would love to see a video on your favorite nail polish brands. I have never heard of someone really liking high end/ luxury brand nail polish, usually the opposite. The idea is that even if they look good- they aren't worth it for the price, or that they are worse than the cheap drugstore ones. So hearing what you like specifically about the chanel and Burberry polishes would be great.
Coming in the new year! 👍💅 I haven't tried too many drugstore polishes in recent years so won't be able to do comparisons unfortunately. 'Worth it' is always a personal call, but I'll certainly share the pros and cons of the brands I've tried x
It's all about opinions but...vPersonally I've had multiple Chanel nail polish and I noticed they were pretty hard to apply, very liquidish, doesn't dry 100%... I don't know if it's just the ones i've bought but they were honestly not even good. I like Dior and Yves Saint Laurent a lot though, they're gorgeous. In drugstore, I'd say Essie is wonderful to me, for O.P.I (IDK if its drugstore???) I'm mixed, some colors look WONDERFUL and other are similar to the Chanel ones so... pretty bad. The brand Sephora isn't drugstore but it's super cheap and quite nice!
Thank you so much for this! I was previously wedded to OPI Nail Envy as my base coat but was only getting a day or two of non-chipped nails. I’ve switched over to the Orly Rubberised base and it’s incredible - I’m getting a week of no chips and actually having to remove my nail polish because I’m bored of the colour rather than because I have to! Buffing my nails has been another useful added step that seems to extend the chip-free wear even further. What a brilliantly helpful video.
Thank you so much Lynn, such amazing feedback! Glad the Orly base coat is working well for you. Changing polish because you fancy a new shade, not because it's chipped is a good problem to have! 😄💅 x

One of my New Years Resolutions is to start taking better care of my nails. After neglecting myself for so long due to depression I've found taking care of the "small" things to be so important for my mental health. Thanks for sharing this video this was exactly what I needed to get me started.❤️
Thank you so much Jamie, so nice to hear this was helpful! You're completely right about taking small steps and finding little moments of self care that can make a big difference to how you feel. So nice to hear nails will be that for you in 2020 ☺️💅 All the best! x

@@matildaonvideo tysm!! I was always so scared to push them back for some reason but ive always liked the clean look of it. Tysm, i mightve broken out of my anxietyshell :))
There is something so soothing about watching being polished!! I do mine myself as well, never enjoyed someone else doing them. I’m too picky! One TIP from my grandma is to do all steps except the top coat in the evening before bed. Wait at least 10 minutes before retiring. When you wake & drink your coffee, put on the topcoat. This way every cost has plenty of time to dry & harden. No sheet marks & the a.m. topcoat dries fast. She did her nails once a week her entire life & did lots of typing at her job. Her nails always looked beautiful. My hubby bought me a special box for my manicure goodies. It’s one of the most thoughtful gifts!
Ahh interesting tip Gina! I used to paint my nails before bed a lot but often found dents or sheet marks in the morning, so I like to do it with plenty of time before lights out now 😄💅 x
Matilda I just saw this! I love rewatching my fave videos! The tip my grandma had about doing the topcoat in the morning prevented any sheet marks. She told me that many years ago & I haven’t had those pesky dents since. Love your new nail polish video also!! I’m going to give some of the shades a try as well as a second order from Olive & June. I love them!!
I bought the equipment for gel nails (I can’t do normal polish, I’m too impatient) and I’m so so glad I did!! I’m at my 5th self-gel mani and getting better as I go. I totally agree that having your nails done make you feel so put together and overall good about myself :) I also love a deep red ❤️
Can't be thankful enough for your video. I am a professional pianist and have always wanted to learn but not any videos were useful for me. Your nail routine is absolutely perfect! Thanks for sharing with us❤️❤️❤️
I rarely do my nails and the last time I got my nails done was 2 years ago for my brother's wedding. I only clip my nails and keep them naked. After watching your video, I want to paint my nails again... Your nails look flawless and very feminine.🥰
This was lovely to watch. I’m still struggling to learn how to do my nails just right and really appreciate how this routine provides a nice tutorial to reference. Thanks for that
I did my NEATEST EVER home mani following your video, even with a dark nail colour. 👏🏻 The buffing method worked so much better than cuticle clippers! So happy that I could now make good use of my nail polish collection. No need for nail salons any more!
I've noticed some nail polish removers have oils in them, so if you do decide to paint it onto your nail before you use polish double check! If it has oil in the remover, it can have the opposite effect intended. Personally I prefer using rubbing alcohol for prepping my nails, but the smell can bother some people so it's really down to personal preference. Honestly, you don't need to use either of these options though your nails will look good if either way!
Ever since I was little my grandmother was talking about how perfect her friend’s nails always look and that “the secret” was leaving a little space between the cuticles and the nail polish, so I’ve been doing it for the longest time and it really makes a difference
I just found you and your channel today and absolutely love your aesthetic - Immediately just HAD to subscribe/ring the bell. You completely relax my type-A personality and I even made an Olive & June purchase. I'm so ready to keep my nails clean, healthy, and beautiful thanks to you!
You inspired me to take care of my nails. My nails are short and a lil stubby like yours and I always found them ugly. Now that I saw that yours looked like mine and are so pretty and well taken care of, I wanna do the same. Thank you for sharing your incredible routine.
Thank you Nathalia! I wouldn't call mine stubby, I have quite long fingers and nails 😂 but they definitely look lengthened when you leave little gaps at the sides! Glad this gave you some ideas x
I bought the Olive and June Spring line and it is beautiful. When I was applying the light blue I thought it was going to take three coats but to my surprised it covered beautifully in two. Also when it came time to remove the polish it came off so easily no scrubbing. Thank you for the recommendation I have passed on their brand to my co-workers
Loved this! I have never had a chip free experience with the Chanel gel top coat but have gotten amazing results from the ultra affordable KIKO Milano gel top coat. I would love to hear about your favorites!
I love how aesthetically pleasing your mani is. I also got the Olive And June Top Coat because of you and I love it! It keeps my polish on for so long. I need it for at least 3 days since I get bored easily. And this is the first top coat that has ACTUALLY no chips. It’s so thin, too! I personally like it not too thick. For some reason mine is a sort of cheap chrome rather then a neutral white and olive green color. That’s why I HATE my mom’s which is the Sally Hansen gel like top coat. So thank you!
Your nails look amazing! The red polish makes me want to actually try it out! Also, did you think of doing an Essie nail polish collection video? I'd be down to watch. Like tell us your faves and what you like about them ❤❤
I totally agree about the self-care thing. I am a nail polish/art junkie, and after a long week of work I pull out my portable manicure table (Christmas present!), get all my tools, put a movie or sporting event on TV, and do my thing! ☺️💅🏻
This was so helpful Matilda, I’m glad I discovered you in 2019. I do my nails myself too and I always get compliments on my nails and hands. 😉 Having presentable hands is always a must for me and looks feminine. Your colour choices are just like mine although I have just one red nail polish. ♥️😄 I need to invest into a good cuticle cream/serum this time. I always use creams after washing my hands and spf during the day. Use gloves during winter too. Much 💜 and thank you for this beautiful video as always.
Yippee😁! I’ve always wanted your nail polish video! Bought few colors after watching your last videos and I absolutely loved it. Have a wonderful holiday and always enjoying your video, thank you😘🎄
I always watch other beauty UA-camrs just when I am really bored, but your videos are always lovely no matter what! Your personality is so refreshing, original, classy and your videos so relaxing. Thank you for being unique and real and taking your time to put out regular content!
Hello Matilda! My name is Lara and I’m from Brazil. Really enjoyed watching your video and learning more about how women in other countries take care of their nails! I’m also a nail polish addict, since I learnt how to do my own manicure with my mom when I was only 12. My country is the second largest nail polish consumer in the world, right after the US, and we have excellent polish brands, such as Impala, Risqué and Colorama, that have been in the market forever. This last one, for example, has been there for 70 years! They are pretty inexpensive as well, comparing to European and American brands (around 0,60 Euros). I’m sure you’d love to know them! 😍💅🏻🇧🇷
Thank you for making this video. It’s completely transformed how I do my nails now and my polish have lasted much longer than they used to with my old routine!
I agree with the Essie dry drops 😅 it really just feels like oil and I can’t notice it helping anything dry faster. Personally I notice that it can even make my color coat streaky from the way the drops dry. Don’t bother, keep your money.
I love the drops haha 😆 never do a mani without them! I find they help me not touch things since the oil takes time to absorb around my cuticles and free edge so I kinda can’t touch anything til the oil is all gone hehe 😜
This inspires me to paint my nails more often and invest in doing them myself instead of going to a salon every time. My favourite tutoriak out there x
I also enjoy doing my nails myself. When I discovered brand Dazzle Dry it totally changed my nail game. Since I had a kid I don’t have nearly as much time as I used to have for my nails. So it should be fast drying and long lasting and I do not want do gel or anything which can destroy my nails because naturally my nails are pretty good. So Dazzle dry is one of the best and I surprised not so many people on UA-cam talk about them
Gel doesn't destroy your nails if done properly. I've been using gel polish myself at home for about 3 years now, and my nails have never been in such a good condition before! It takes some time to paint my nails this way, but the polish stays on without chipping for 3 weeks, which is great.
I will definitely be doing all of this. For the past year and a half I’ve been biting my nails but now I’m ready to let them grow out and be and look healthy. Amazing video!
I can't get a mání to last chip free any longer than 12 hours no matter what I try. I recently tried Essie Couture on your recommendation, I love the texture and brush type. I'd love to see your fave nail colours video, thanks, have a nice Christmas. 🎄🙏
Your nails really are GOALS! I have a problem because I‘m always picking on my cuticle which is why my hands look horrible in my opinion and I really don‘t know how to stop. That‘s why I hardly ever wear nail polish - I really don‘t want to draw attention to my hands. If anyone has ideas how to get rid of these kinds of habits I would be so thankful!
Thank you Hannah! Using something to hydrate your cuticles (like an oil, serum or hand cream) might help them look nicer, and hopefully that acts as a visual reminder to stop because you know they'll look worse if you start 👍 x
I don't really have much of a hair routine to share unfortunately! Pretty low maintenance. But I'll be sharing some products I enjoy in my 2019 Favourites video soon 👍 x

Haha thank you Lila! 😂 Wouldn't give up this process for the world (and can't imagine how expensive salon visits must be over a year!) x
Mine too but they come out so much better at the salon. But I’m gonna try again so I can save money!
But you can do gel nails in home 💁🏻♀️
Mine too! I started around 10 years ago and it became the most relaxing time of the week.

Another couple of tips to make your mani last longer :
Always seal the free edge of the nail when applying each coat of base, colour and top coat.
Thanks for sharing! Yes I just learnt about capping too so I do that occasionally as well 👍 x

An 11 minute video?! Gosh you're spoiling us! XD
Thank you Mackenzie! This one was a *beast* to film / script / edit! Easily one of the most time consuming videos I've ever made, but also one of my favourites 😄💅 x
@@matildaonvideo You're very welcome. Your hard work definitely pays off because all your videos including this one are very enjoyable, informative and relaxing to watch! X3
Please do more nail vidios !! They are so satisfying and relaxing ! I literally watch this video and very night before I go to sleep 😂❤️
Thank you Megan, so nice to hear! 😄💅 Definitely planning a lot more nail content soon x
Omg yes!! Didn't know I needed this video until now!
Love seeing you do a tutorial style video, it's like a one stop video with tips, a tutorial and review all in one. Love! 💖
Thank you so much! Appreciate that 😄💅 x
Dior Apricote Nail Cream - Gamechanger for life! Last about two years and I love it. Nice Video 😊
Ooh sounds beautiful Larissa! 💅 x
wow, I appriciate you take the time to answer me 😊 thx a lot - new fan here 🤘🏼
This video is so helpful and I actually really enjoy watching people doing their nails 😂
Will love to see more about this topic!
Thank you Bonny! Let me know if there's anything in particular you'd like to see 💅 x
So nice to hear nails will be that for you in 2020 ☺️💅 All the best! x
i usually get so anxious watching someone push their cuticles back, let alone do it myself. for some reason after watching you do it, i went ahead and did it myself without any anxiety. lol thank you
Thank you Mabel (love that name!). Definitely tried to share that it should be a gentle step, not a scary or painful one ☺️👍 x
@@matildaonvideo tysm!! I was always so scared to push them back for some reason but ive always liked the clean look of it. Tysm, i mightve broken out of my anxietyshell :))
I have never had my nails done in a salon but I love an at home manicure
So satisfying to see clean fresh nails💖
Thank you, I agree! ☺️💅 x
Thanks for sharing Juliette! 😄💅 x
Can't be thankful enough for your video. I am a professional pianist and have always wanted to learn but not any videos were useful for me. Your nail routine is absolutely perfect! Thanks for sharing with us❤️❤️❤️
Wow, thank you so much! Wonderful to hear this was helpful 😄🎹 x
I rarely do my nails and the last time I got my nails done was 2 years ago for my brother's wedding. I only clip my nails and keep them naked. After watching your video, I want to paint my nails again... Your nails look flawless and very feminine.🥰
Thank you so much! Glad this gave you some inspiration ☺️💅 x
Please do a video on your nail polish collection. So many colours in this video look amazing!!
Definitely planning some polish shade videos in the new year Niamh! 💅 x
This was lovely to watch. I’m still struggling to learn how to do my nails just right and really appreciate how this routine provides a nice tutorial to reference. Thanks for that
Thank you so much, glad to hear this was helpful! ☺️💅 x
I did my NEATEST EVER home mani following your video, even with a dark nail colour. 👏🏻 The buffing method worked so much better than cuticle clippers! So happy that I could now make good use of my nail polish collection. No need for nail salons any more!
Matilda, you literally taught me how to paint my nails! Thank you for this video :)
Apologies for the late reply Annie - thank you so much! That's amazing to hear 💅👏 x
I love your tip about leaving space at the bottom and sides... I find it looks a lot neater that way
Glad to hear you agree Sneha! 😄💅 x
Good points here Malia! 👍 x
Ever since I was little my grandmother was talking about how perfect her friend’s nails always look and that “the secret” was leaving a little space between the cuticles and the nail polish, so I’ve been doing it for the longest time and it really makes a difference
Glad this was a tip she passed onto you too! I think it makes a big difference as well 💅 x
Your voice, aghhhh it's amazing! I could listen to it all day
So nice of you! ☺️ x
bless you for listing the toolbox as well, it is absolutely adorable!
Haha my pleasure Rachael, it's such a nice simple style! 👏 x
I just found you and your channel today and absolutely love your aesthetic - Immediately just HAD to subscribe/ring the bell. You completely relax my type-A personality and I even made an Olive & June purchase. I'm so ready to keep my nails clean, healthy, and beautiful thanks to you!
Thank you so much Stephanie! Such a lovely comment. Very grateful you found me! ☺️💅 x
My weekend is now amazing
Thankyou Matilda for making my weeks so special
Thank you so much! So sweet of you ☺️ x
yes! i’m so happy this uploaded!!
Thank you! Me too, it was a long time coming 😄💅 x
Always fantastic being here!
Thank you so much! ☺️ x
So glad you're enjoying their polishes too Suzy! Just re-painted my nails last night with their shade HZ and it worked well with two coats 💅 x
Loved this! I have never had a chip free experience with the Chanel gel top coat but have gotten amazing results from the ultra affordable KIKO Milano gel top coat. I would love to hear about your favorites!
Thank you JC, I'll have to keep an eye out for that Kiko polish! 👏 x
So glad you're enjoying their terrific top coat! 😄💅 x
Your nails look amazing! The red polish makes me want to actually try it out! Also, did you think of doing an Essie nail polish collection video? I'd be down to watch. Like tell us your faves and what you like about them ❤❤
Thank you! Definitely hoping to cover my favourite Essie shades in future 💅 x
@@matildaonvideo I just bought a bottle of Essie Gel Couture in #350 Galavanting. It is the most gorgeous dark berry shade.
I totally agree about the self-care thing. I am a nail polish/art junkie, and after a long week of work I pull out my portable manicure table (Christmas present!), get all my tools, put a movie or sporting event on TV, and do my thing! ☺️💅🏻
Glad you enjoy the process too! ☺️💅 x
Thank you so much! Really appreciate that ☺️ Glad you found me too! x
Nevermind I wanna watch anything that has to do with nails.... I could listen to your voice all DAY!
Thank you so much! 😄💅 x
"This is my non dominant hand now but sometimes it's neater than my right hand"
Nope can't relate 😂🤷♀️
Haha I don't know how it happens like that 😂 x
That clean up brush is game changer!!! Will definitely buy it😍
Such a handy tool! 👏 x
Yippee😁! I’ve always wanted your nail polish video! Bought few colors after watching your last videos and I absolutely loved it. Have a wonderful holiday and always enjoying your video, thank you😘🎄
Thank you so much! 😄💅 Happy holidays to you too x
I always watch other beauty UA-camrs just when I am really bored, but your videos are always lovely no matter what! Your personality is so refreshing, original, classy and your videos so relaxing. Thank you for being unique and real and taking your time to put out regular content!
Thank you so much! Can't tell you how much that means. Really appreciate your lovely feedback ☺️👏 x
Now I really want to go paint my nails xD
Happy painting! 😄💅 x
Thank you for sharing Lara! Glad to meet a nail polish fan from Brazil 😄💅 I had no idea there was such a big nail polish market there x
ahhh so glad you dropped this routine!!!
Long time coming because it was such a monster to plan / film / script / edit! But I'm glad I could finally upload it too 😄💅 x
Thank you for making this video. It’s completely transformed how I do my nails now and my polish have lasted much longer than they used to with my old routine!
Perfect mani tutorial! Loved seeing you go through your routine.
Ahh that means the world coming from *you* Katie! Always sending people your way for seriously professional-looking mani tips 👏💅 x
It’s so perfect!! Ahhh her life is just lovely
Thank you! 💅 x
New subscriber here ! Loving your channel XOXO
Thank you so much India! Glad I got to discover your channel today too 😄 x
Easily the most beautiful nail polish collection out there !
Thank you so much May! It was fun to group the colours together 😄💅 x
I agree with the Essie dry drops 😅 it really just feels like oil and I can’t notice it helping anything dry faster. Personally I notice that it can even make my color coat streaky from the way the drops dry. Don’t bother, keep your money.
Glad it's not just me Jessica! I'd rather wait out the drying time normally 👍💅 x
Thank you Soha! I love that I can save money by always doing my nails at home. I bet salon visits really add up over the course of a year 😱 x
So Dazzle dry is one of the best and I surprised not so many people on UA-cam talk about them
Glad you enjoy the process too! 💅 I haven't come across that brand before x
Thank you so much Laura! Have fun ☺️💅 x
If I have nails like yours, I’d definitely start posing & stare at it instead of doing chores or practice piano lol. Neat video as always. Thank you!
Haha thank you! They're definitely more fun to take photos of these days 😄💅 x
Leaving a little gap at the sides of your nails is a game changer!
I can't get a mání to last chip free any longer than 12 hours no matter what I try. I recently tried Essie Couture on your recommendation, I love the texture and brush type. I'd love to see your fave nail colours video, thanks, have a nice Christmas. 🎄🙏
Thank you Elli! Hope some of the tips in this video might help your mani last longer 👍💅 x
Your nails always look so simple yet so classy, put together and elegant. Hence, the hype❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much! So nice of you ☺️💅 x
Omg, I also find it very satisfying to do my own nails!
Glad you enjoy it too Talia! 💅 x
I love how humble and mindful you are!! This is an incredible and unique video ever watched!! Lots of love and support!
Thank you so much Shar! So kind of you ☺️ x
ORDERS EVERYTHING!!!!xoxo
Haha thank you Harry! I definitely have my eye on some more green shades lately thanks to you ✅ x
I like your video format. Reminds me of the original yt vids where they focus on content than personality.
Thank you Pamelle! Really appreciate that ☺️ More about the content than the creator here! x
Also the demonstration is really helpful.Thank you!
Thank you, great to hear ☺️ x
Your nails really are GOALS! I have a problem because I‘m always picking on my cuticle which is why my hands look horrible in my opinion and I really don‘t know how to stop. That‘s why I hardly ever wear nail polish - I really don‘t want to draw attention to my hands. If anyone has ideas how to get rid of these kinds of habits I would be so thankful!
Thank you Hannah! Using something to hydrate your cuticles (like an oil, serum or hand cream) might help them look nicer, and hopefully that acts as a visual reminder to stop because you know they'll look worse if you start 👍 x
she makes me want to take care of myself
Glad to hear that! ☺️ x
Matilda i love your videos so much, i’ve been ive been binge watching them the past few days ty for your existence
Matilda they give me life
Aesthics goalssssss 🤞🏽. & great way to capture your routine 🤗.
Thank you so much Monique! ☺️💅 x
I wish I seen this before I started painting my nails 15 minutes ago
Haha there's always next time Emily! 😄💅 x
I don't know why is this in my recommended, but i'm not complaining either :) your nails are so perfeeect!
Thank you! 😄💅 x
Okay I have a video idea to pitch: hair care routine?
I don't really have much of a hair routine to share unfortunately! Pretty low maintenance. But I'll be sharing some products I enjoy in my 2019 Favourites video soon 👍 x
Matilda okay thanks
just tried your method on not filling the entire nail bed with the polish and wow, what a game changer!!!
