We arrived in NZ from the UK 50 years ago. The Kiwis we met in the first year were wonderful, generous, kind people who helped us get settled. Welcome and I pray you are blessed with such people in your lives.
Welcome🖐 to our beautiful country l will be following your journey your little girl was adorable outside with her sunnies she looked so at home yes that’s a very generous amount of fish n chips 😃
Cool, loads of stuff to do with kids in Christchurch. Margaret mahe playground, sumner splash pad and playground, hallswell quarry park for a walk, bottle lake forrest to see fairy houses and gonfor a bike ride, lyttelton market, lyttelton outdoor pool, family annual pass for the tram and gondolla, hallswell mini trains (you ride on them), ferry to daimond harbour... tons more actually, but i will chill with the lists :)
Hey, thanks so much for the list! We've gotten out to do a few of these already and have some videos lined up. Keep those ideas coming! We want to show our girls all the cool stuff! :)
Hello & Kia Ora. My family and I landed in New Zealand on Christmas Eve 1975. I was 12 years old. New Zealand has been very good to me. I met my hubby when I was 15 years old. Gerard came to my 16th birthday dinner. We have now been married for over 40 years. Welcome, welcome, welcome. Jane in New Zealand 🇬🇧🇳🇿
Brings back a lot of memories of our move to Hong Kong! Now Hannah, you get the adult’s perspective, and get to enjoy watching the girls go with the flow as you did. Everything is/was so new. Enjoy figuring out your new city!
Hi welcome to NZ😀. I grew up in Christchurch through the 50’s and 60’s, my grandmother lived in Thomes Road in Papanui and for some reason rutland street rings a bell. Nice area. My folks moved back in 1980 when dad retired with them living there for the rest of their time. I haven’t been back down that way since 2019 but honestly you’ve moved to the best part of NZ with easy access to the mountains, lakes , coast so much to see and do. 😀
We're so excited to get out and explore more. For now it's mostly things within and nearby, but we're loving it. Definitely some trips to plan though! Welcome to the channel :)
Well done tackling the huge number of challenges that come with starting afresh in a new country. Everythng is so much better when you find the best fish & chips! P S you will quickly have found out most kiwis line dry their laundry, reserving the dryer for backup & rainy days - letting nature do the work is most economical, & our utility costs are high.
Hey Barbara! Yes, we've been Line drying when it isn't raining 😀 Thanks for the kind words. I think we're handling the transition pretty well. Once the girls' immune systems have collected all the cold variants well be great! 😄
We planned moving from Australia to either Ireland or NZ, disposed of everything, then my daughter was diagnosed with cancer. Not fair, universe. If it was possible, we would still go, probably to NZ, as we have friends there. You wont need the dryer...the wind is extreme at times. Enjoy.
Oh wow. We can't imagine going through something like that. Hoping you gwt out for a visit at least! And yes, we've experienced the wind a few times already haha
Welcome guys, nz definitely needs good people and blessed families such as yourselves, i do apologize for how expensive this country is and dont worry youll find out😂 i wish yous all the best much love from auckland nz❤ ps most kiwis put down gardens around mid October well i do anyway...lovely house by the way👍
Thanks so much for the warm welcome! We definitely hope to get up to Auckland! Yes - some things do seem expensive! We came from Seattle in the states, though, and prices are a bit out of control there, too. Glad to hear we did well timing the garden! It's doing really well! We'll keep sharing in future updates. Let us know if there's anything you'd like us to chat about, experience or share! :)
Welcome. All working out well hopefully. When you come across something your not used to, just ask most of us are only too pleased to help out. Arohanui
Dude, they're CHIPS! not fries, not French fries, real chunky CHIPS! 😂thanks for sharing the first week in your new home. The crazy "we have nothing" energy of moving into a new place in a new country brought back memories of our first week in Vancouver. And don't start me on the shipping bolts in the dryer!! Take care and hope you enjoy your first Christmas in your new home.
Yes, you always have to pay extra for installation, so if you are not an amazingly handy sort of person, prepare yourself to pay that extra 10-20% to get the install.
Good luck❤ I moved to Australia for 7yrs went back home to the UK for a visit and not returned to Australia, no place like home! Australians were not so nice in the city. Hope it works for you.
Like all the rest of us Kiwis welcome & may you all to stay permanently. Find out what is the best sunblock this year and slap bulk volume on all of you NZ's sun is way different to what you are used to. Kiwi Rod
Thanks! We're always looking for suggestions for things to do with our kiddos around town. We've been taking some short bike rides lately. Lots to see!
Hey guys, welcome to Godzone NZ. The best small country in the world. Make sure to take a trip to the Cookie Time Factory Shop in Christchurch. Happy to give advice or guidance if you ever ask via video!!
@@TheMerryMigrants Yes there definitely is a cookie factory there. Cookie Time. Have to say the shop isn’t huge but you can pick up a 1kg (2.25lbs) bag of 2nds cookies for around $20. They’re broken up but still the best!!

Thank you! The garden has done okay so far - just a few rookie mistakes on our part like planting WAY too many radishes right next to eachother. haha
