  • We take a look at the long awaited and very hyped Dusk. The successor to the extremely popular Moondrop Blessing 2 Dusk. Does this new Dusk live up to the legacy of it's predecessor? Thank you Shenzhen Audio for sending a unit to review.

    The issues I said about noise with the DSP cable seem to be recognized more by some others who have tried it, and it’s not just a one off issue with my unit. so I would say that is more of a hit to this IEM regarding recommending it if you intend to use it with the DSP cable.

    This whole dsp preset thing is going to make reviewing and choosing IEMs even mesisee than it already is 😩 in theory choise is always good, but if EQ presets are now a valid part of a review people are going to want to know if applying a bit of EQ to their current set, or a rival set, will lift it above another set etc

      From now on the reviews should focus on the analog part only. I have headphones that without equalization are very unpleasant and with equalization they are some of the best listening in my collection (Tempotec IM05). There are headphones that have the peculiarity of getting along well with equalization, others do not. For example, the Simgot EM6L almost does not support increasing the bass. Everything becomes confusing in that part if it is increased. Maybe it's because its dynamic driver is 8mm. Don't know. But each headphone is totally different if we start to equalize it.

    • @Sintrania
      @Sintrania Місяць тому

      I still don’t get why people are against EQ, I mean if one has worst tuning but better technical performance which making it better with EQ. Would someone who already own that just EQ and don’t need to buy another set.
      I would love to know if I bought an iem if I can tune it to what extent? May be it can do better bass? May be fixing the treble extention? No iem react to EQ the same way, it gets you the bang for your bucks so why not include it.

    I've had my Dusk for 1 week now and it is my end game. I am happy with the quality and the price point. I've been using the DSP cable without any problems. Didn't notice the sweeping artifacts in my DSP Cable at lower volumes. Previously, i was using the B2D for 2 years as daily driver so I'm happy with the new Dusk! Better bass, tamer treble.

    Have gotten these and have been using them for about a week now. I have basically been using it purely on the DSP cable. Personally I feel no distortion even at really low volumes which is usually when I’m watching videos. And sometimes when I’m listening to music while doing other things I’ll also turn down the volume. I’m not sure if it’s just unit difference or if I’m not capable enough to notice it but I have been really really loving it and I don’t think I’ll be upgrading from it for a really really long time.

    My quarks dsp have an issue at low volume similar to the one you're describing. The audio is horribly distorted at low volume. It gets better as I raise the volume, but it doesn't go away until it's too loud for comfort. That's only on my phone though. It seems to work fine on my computer at low volumes, aside from there being super uneven volume changes with each step of volume in Windows. Honestly, most of the usb c iems and iem cables have had strange, seemingly unpredictable issues for me. It makes me leery of them. Thanks for the review.

      Quarks did have an extra issue where it would jitter every few seconds. I covered it in my review of them, where it would have a peak every few seconds that also showed up in the phase and frequency response measurements. It was really weird

    I agree on the dsp app is horrible the cable is nice to have but they really need to improve the app also the ios version is a must.
    As for the analog tuning I am a huge fan since I love female vocal and this really makes female vocal shine, the dsp tuning sound smooth but not special in my opinion.
    I wish they make the analog cable nicer may be more robust and not too cheap feeling, it’s a good cable but it just feels too cheap.
    I’m amaze how the sub bass is tuned it is a bit of sharp rise so you get a decently fast bass response and a lot of sub bass making it more impactful, but the mid range is not recessed it really give the best of both worlds. As for treble it is a bit shouty especially the 16k peak but it does make high vocal sound clear and not muddy, but it’s not for everyone so I guess why the dsp version is more preferable to some people.
    Also Crin has released PEQ value and a wavelet file in his own website as well so you can use tuning on your EQ software and not the sap cable.
