When I first played Persona 5, I thought
"Wow, this Shibuya feels like real Shibuya!"
I couldn't suppress my curiosity and decided to make this. Walked around Shibuya for 3, or 4 hours and shot these locations. Then I tried to reproduce the footage in-game by playing P5.
Synchronizing was a bit of work and not everything went as I hoped but I hope you enjoy this :)

Shibuya's slowly starting to not look like this anymore. For example, the building on 7:00 where the author of the vid exits is being rebuilt now, and the green train car is no longer there. This made me think how life is ever changing and you gotta appreciate the moment.
Yeah, I didn't realize it when I made this video but now I'm starting to feel like, when more construction is done and Shibuya changes even more in the future, maybe this video becomes some sort of asset to look back at Shibuya in a specific period. It's a bit sad though, to be honest. Shibuya becoming not like Shibuya in P5...
It's so cool though. When videogames recreate real world locations faithfully, it is like looking back at the past - almost like a time mahine.
There is something about games that, while you're playing them, they feel more immersive than just looking at a photo or video. Given how popular P5(R) became, chances are it will be preserved and replayed by fans several decades into the future.
So in conclusion, Joker walks pretty damn fast.

Well he even teleport in mementos and palace to begin with.
Joker moves at practically a light jog, and some of the spaces got scaled down in the game for asset compression, cutting wasted space, and to specifically reduce time spent traveling for the player. Altogether though, incredibly faithful recreation.

...except you get there and now you can get lost in the dozen or so corridors that you can't go in the game, I was there last week, the place is constantly under construction for like the past decade and there are new pathways being added and taken away all the time.

Except the thing was in production for 5 years and its been a year since its release, and they don't show the parts that are under construction anyway, I mean they have been changing everything up all around the station for decades now, I'm talking like in a span of half a year, they would finish 2 sites and start 3 new places to work on around and inside the multi layered station, no idea why they need to, they just do

The detail is incredible.

I visited Japan after playing P5. Went to Shibuya and somehow... my friends were amazed that I didn't get lost. I was like - just follow me! Always got to the line we needed to go!
I had to look up where the Ginza line was on my first play through, feel like if I was dropped in Shibuya now I'd be fine haha

Rougoku in Japan you will see people in the train stations wearing formal coat and tie for corporate work, some are wearing kimono, some just everyday clothes, it's very random and they don't care they just go about their next locations and trains.

Wow. Thanks for creating this! Just been in Shibuya and had weird feelings as I recognized places from Persona 5. Every time our train passed through Aoyama Ichome, I couldn't help smile. I think people thought I was weird. :D

I've been to Shibuya but me and my friends didn't have the chance to explore fully as we're pressed for time as we wanted to soak in the atmosphere of Shibuya. And it's amazing how the developers took various elements and incorporate it into the game. Love it!!!

I'm a huge fan of Persona too. My favorite is P3 (of course I love P4 and P5 too) but music-wise, I probably like the P5 music the best. It's amazing that Shoji Meguro could produce those songs after he made a lot of wonderful songs for P3 and P4.
RyiSnow Japan always had the best people when it comes to music! I grew up with NES and I still listen to the music of many games from that era and the music is pure and simple incredible for the 8bit times. Do you have a Switch ? It would be an honor to add you as a friend in my list :)

I just got back from a Japan trip and even though I spent time in Shibuya, I had NO idea it was THIS accurate; I knew Atlus did an incredible job with the environments and it certainly mirrored what I walked around in, but my goodness, that was simply divine. Thank you so much for posting this. Brought back a lot of recent memories. Will definitely be back.

Outstanding camera, syncing, and editing work on this. Usually when people make comparisons it's just with photos, but you were able to sync up a live video perfectly, sweeps and everything, with the game. Excellent job!

@@MasDouc Yes that's basically what I did. Also I brought my iPad to Shibuya. I took a lot of in-game screenshots beforehand and stored them in the device. So I could check them when I wasn't sure which angle I needed to shoot from etc.

Man I can tell they put sincere, honest love in their game. From the character designs, artistic direction, dialogue, story, gameplay, and even making the damn locations spot on, atlus is the real MVP. Now when I go to Japan for the first time I could use the experience I had with the game as a GPS..might still get lost though xD But never expected i would learn actual geography in a game lol. Quite impressive
