- The struggle for women's suffrage began in the 1800s with women organizing, marching, lobbying, and raising awareness to give women voting rights.
The women's suffrage movement was small and mostly state-organized in the opening decades of the 19th century, but by 1848, organization was propelled to the national level with the first women's rights convention in Seneca Falls.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott organized the Seneca Falls convention, and more than 300 people, primarily women, attended. The convention resulted in voting rights becoming a centerpiece of the women's rights movement.
Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton formed the National Woman Suffrage Association in 1869 with the goal to grant women the right to vote with a constitutional amendment.
The amendment was first introduced to Congress in 1878, and it failed to pass. Women's suffrage activists continued fighting and, on the eve of President Woodrow Wilson's inauguration in 1913, organized a massive parade in Washington, DC. Thousands of protesters harassed the parade, attempting to block its route and verbally and physically assaulting the women. The marchers would not yield and held their ground until US Army troops arrived to clear their route.
Later in 1913, the Congressional Union for Woman Suffrage, the predecessor of the National Woman's Party, was founded by Alice Paul and staged demonstrations. Their sometimes militant tactics, and picketing of the White House, caused arrests and jail time for some activists.
The goal of a constitutional amendment united the major suffrage organizations. Following New York's adoption of women's voting rights, President Wilson changed his position to support women's suffrage.
On May 21, 1919, the Susan Anthony Amendment was overwhelmingly passed in the House and then narrowly in the Senate two weeks later. On Aug. 18, 1920, Tennessee ratified the amendment, finally gaining the amendment a three-fourths majority.

And look where it got us today..
🧠
You'd rather blame women than accept the fact conservatives are losing, okay
HUGE mistake 🥩🥦🥃
The downfall of society started there tbh
Very overrated amendment
My least favorite amendment.
Worst amendment ever passed.
That and the 17th amendment
Yay, the comments here were exactly what I was expecting. :/
Have some faith; but remember we all have opinions, not all are right though.
yeah it's sad to be honest....they would rather take away the vote from 50% of the population than accept the fact Conservatives are losing
Women should be thanking men every day for how good they have it
HAHAHAHA. Ask the family court system how that's working out for us.

This is why Biden got voted in. Voting based on emotion not on facts, common sense and logic.
Did the men who started practically all the wars in history act on common sense and logic? Are the men who beat their girlfriends level headed and rational?
@@user-wo6xj4se8b Does your comment make any sense or contain any logic? Since, based on your comment I strongly believe you are unable to answer this, I will answer it for you. No.
@mgpvii Kind of seems as though rather than accept or change the fact the Right are losing, you'd rather take away voting rights of women. Why not act like adults who can fix their problems rather than blame women?

@@user-wo6xj4se8b I didn't say anything about taking away the rights of women to vote. I said that people are voting based on emotion rather than logic and common sense. If you take that as women, then that's on you.
A mistake only eclipsed by December 23rd 1913.
Good stuff, it’s important to remember how we have grown as a society instead of skirting it away. Thanks for sharing.
Grown?! We’re in a state of crisis!! This was the biggest mistake ever made in the US
The comments will be civil and supportive
Respek all the wahmans!

I have my standards
I do appreciate you cover things other than military topics from time to time. This is an important evolution of our Republic and constitution. Excellent work!
One of America's biggest mistakes.
Why? Does your mother know you hold this view?
Oops
The fall of the west rooted to this…
Worst day ever!
Just joking ladies. 😀
Now go make me a sammich.
Hi mom
They’re better off in the kitchen making me a sammich. Now get to it woman!
Does your mother know you hold this opinion?
@@user-wo6xj4se8b yes
This is unnatural
So is voting for men oops
Yay. Girl power. 😐
Dang, BRCC. I thought you knew your audience was overall a little too misogynistic to handle videos like this...I appreciate the effort, but these guys have a little more evolving to do.
More likes than negative comments, so maybe you’re wrong. Don’t let a few trolls ruin the internet for you.
Haha! Seems like woman are the ones who devolved into thinking there at the same level as men. Men do the work, woman tend the home. That’s how it is and always should be.
Humans had about 400,000 years to figure it out. Amazing it only took two or three generations of women voting to destroy civilization.
Stop smelling your own farts and take the L.
Nothing wrong with women voting, but we should institute ideology tests before allowing anyone to vote. Ideological purity would prevent people from voting the wrong way
riiiiight
@Muzaffar Krylov So you want the supposed organization that spreads the propaganda to also have a test to decide if you meet an " IQ" standard to vote? Who else would govern who gets to vote or not besides the government? Policies like this have been used only in the past to suppress the rights of people seen as undesirable. You're literally advocating for rule by dictator not freedom
Sooooo pull a rigged vote cause who you choose is the right one? What your recommend is against the right to vote.
If you want “ideological purity” go to china or North Korea and see what a pure one party country is like to live in.
Last time a government used the words "purity" and "test" together my family tree in Europe got a little smaller.
There’s a lot wrong with women voting.
