18:56 I like how the car actually follows the basic rules of driving and waits for you to turn. Out here in CA if someone was waiting to turn like that and saw you put your blinker on they would see that as an open invitation to just turn right in front of you.
Those wheel caps look so much better than the Geminis! We've owned both the 20 inch Inductions and 19 inch Geminis and the improvement in ride quality was way bigger than I expected.
Small correction for anyone interested: Tesla went with a different TPMS design (they are now Bluetooth LE) for the Model Y and 2021 Model 3, so with 2021 Model 3 wheels the TPMS sensors will probably be compatible. I think the TPMS sensor change, new design for the 18" aero covers, no more chrome, and addition of the heat pump all came pretty much at the same time for the 2021 Model 3 (sometime around June 2020). The aero wheels shown here are the previous design with the probably "old" TPMS sensors.
One other note, load rating was mentioned, and the Model 3 wheels are slightly below the load rating of the model Y's 20" wheels (750kg), for Model 3 18" wheels 2020 or earlier. The new 2021 wheels are slightly different, and have a 750kg load rating, so there would be no load rating issues with the 2021 wheels also! (besides the TPMS advantage mentioned above).
I ordered an 18" tire/wheel package from TSportLine for my new Performance Model Y with a claimed 16-pound reduction in weight and proper load ratings with 245/50-ZR18 Michelin Pilot Sports 4. Looking forward to driving the PMY on 18s with a proper sidewall, will be able to rotate them, and other benefits.
put into a rim size calculator the circumference difference is only .5% so they are nearly the same diameter which shouldn't affect range or speedometer.
Hey man, it is old video I know! Do you think, would they fit on Model Y performance? my model y has bf red brake calipers. it would be very helpful if you answer.
Have the 2021 MYP with the 21" wheels and realize these are not the right wheels for America's crumbling infrastructure. Looking for a good 18" replacement option.
They aren't good for European roads too. I have driven Model Y with 19" Geminis in city and it wasn't bad, but I can't imagine discomfort of driving with 21"
I don’t understand how the 18s don’t get better range compared to the 19s. If they’re the same width but less mass and aero covers it should be in the 5-10% range increase range. Makes no sense why a model 3 on 19s down to 18s sees a 5-10% range increase and the model Y wouldn’t with the same swap. Only thing that makes sense is different tire compounds.
I know this is super old but what rim model # did u go with for the 18”? I want to go to the 18’s but some say the Y is too heavy for them so i want to be safe! I appreciate the reply if u can as i want to get these asap, but i also have the long range model and not the standard range
Taking about contact patch with the thinner tire, did you increase tire pressures? With the thinner, taller tire, are you maintaining the same volume of air, as oem.
I have a 2020 LR DUALLY 3, with a 2022 Y LR Dual on order. So because of the load rating of the OEM 18” WHEEL, I should do a direct swap onto the Y, ignoring the TPMS issue. images44.fotki.net/v1644/file3VU3/4ad03/4/43793/4388532/DB909E151943128FBB7B0114DEEB4C.jpg
Interesting, so the '21 model RWD is 5.3sec to 60 but the new '23s RWD i see listed at 6.9sec, huge difference. Either Tesla's new LFP baterries have less voltage in them (which i doubt) or Tesla' marketing team decided to limit the acceleration on the base, which sucks. I hate when companies play these dumb games (they're not the only ones). Did u guys have to add spacers on the 18s?, i see the Y listed with +45 spacing.
The other guy did all this work, did test drives, and pretty much already summed all this up. What was the point of this, other than the obvious desire for views?
? They tend to be smarter, and more experienced, so they don’t need to be something that they aren’t. I have 10 years of racing behind me, and know that driving fast on the streets is silly and irresponsible.

A better ride on the 19s?

What's your experience like on this? Looking to do something similar to my MYP and looking for feedback.
Every inch counts.

18 looks soo good
Patiently waiting for your review on the Plaid.
Fellow Model Y SR owner & Michigander here! Thinking about putting some 18s on it for winter tires. Thanks for the great info!
Glad to see more content. I will say your shadow looks like your from Splinter Cell 😅

Put on a set of light Enkie's rims see if that must improve range.
Do you think a 235/60/18 tire will fit on a Tesla Model Y?
I’ve been waiting for this review! I’ve be contemplating if it’s worth the hassle and cost to go 18” on the MY for a more comfortable ride. Thansk

yep 18 looks much better!
You realize the first set are the 18s? The 19s look much better

And I thought my door slams when the windows are rolled down felt and sounded bad xD
Where you able to input 18” Wheels into the displays settings? Did the new tires maintain the oem diameters. Thanks for your test.
Which steering setting?

Is it okay to attach the 235/55 to the Model Y with the Model 3 wheels? No problems for that?
Does it improve the range?
Would this be beneficial for the long range model?
Can I do this and add 18” wheels on the LR AWD 2021 model?
Any improvement in road noise ?
Can you do a POV of the GV70?
this car is nice.
Can this fit the model y performance?
same here man! if you find an answer please share here too.
Plzzz can u do a drift test of the cars you review
California roads are trash and hence I’m here learning from your test. Too little objective information in this video, tho. 😢
Hey I see your in Michigan and so am I. I can tell your in my city too. I have a X and got a y on the way. We should do some videos together
You got do a Hellcat redeye challenger POV drive !

Is the load rating on the Model 3 wheels the same?
he does mention it's within spec.
you should went with 235 50 18 1 inch lower get more range
should have used 255/50R18 tire to match size of 255/45R19
That size doesn't exist - Go take a look at the selection. :-) 235/55-18 is actually spot on... 0.5% difference in diameter compared to the 19" setup.

Damn tesla owners have the personality of lukewarm milk lmaoo

Your roads are horrible!
