+Nihilist I don't really care about your opinion. If he is overated and that is just your opinion. Metal will never be overrated in the music industry as long as people listen to shit they call music.
That's fine. I'm talking about people that say stuff like "oh I used to like metal but then I grew up and discovered thinking man's music like Neutral Milk Hotel."
Went through that phase a year ago. I used to love metal then I found indie and thought indie was life. I have recently started really getting back into metal though. Both can be really good.
Even when I went through all of my phases throughout middle and high school I never once stopped listening to metal. Metal is my first love of music and it will always be that way. Right now TAIM is my favorite band.
There's just so many kinds and subgenres of metal and so many bands and songs that it's so hard to get bored of it. If you get tired of doom metal, go heavier. Deathcore getting old? Go back to the roots of heavy metal.
I wouldn't consider any subgenre better than another. Thrash ain't king, if anything it's kind of getting dated due to lack of any creativity outside of "let's sound exactly like __________ thrash metal band from the Eighties" but Vektor is still kicking ass.
The Abyssal Archivist and i didnt mean that any genre was better than the other, my favorites are thrash and power, but there are so many other subgenres that people ignore in their quest to be "metal".
like a friend of mine used to listen to slayer and amon amarth, and like the next week she was wearing like t-shirts from h&m and listening to twenty-one fucking pilots and panic at the disco.
My long time friend is starting to drift from metal and it depresses me. He's the only friend I have that listened to it. He told me he listens to country most of the time. I ain't mad...... Yea I'm mad. Like someone said up above. Metal is life. You just can't not be a metal head. That would mean it was just a phase. Metal isn't a phase for me and I'll be listening to it until the day I die.
I get its for humor, but I don't really see why there's such a rift between people who're into alt. rock and metal. I've always loved both. I could listen to The Strokes and Slayer and not give a damn whether it's the same type of music or not.
Well yeah the strokes are more rock and pretty cool, but to some it's not as powerful and strong as metal, it can sometimes even be perceived as weak. It's even harder to listen to pop and hip hop because it's so synthesized and auto tuned. Most songs never even feature a real instrument, and the tracks are usually composed by multiple producers. Did you know Rihanna's "Umbrella" has a drum track ripped straight off a loop in GarageBand? Maybe that's why metal heads have such an appreciation for classic music, something which requires years of training and lots of skill play. I try not to be one of those people, and truth be told, I don't think most people are actually like that. Tl;dr metal heads don't like music besides metal and classical because it takes no talent or is too mellow and not br00tal
+Audio Blur the real instruments point is weak. Compositions are about the end effect. It's not really important if human hands actually played them. Even modern classical has electronic effects. As the saying goes, the road to hell is paved with false premises. I don't care if the song uses a drum machine as long as it's a good composition.
Audio Blur I look at how well the songs are composed and if they stick with me (in a good way of course). Plus some of the most skilled musicians in the world are in Jazz if you're going to look for instrument technicality. Ex- Megadeth guitarist Chris Poland was a Jazz-Rock fusion guitar player before he ever played any metal. Good ol' Dave Mustaine once said that Chris' playing abilities were beyond his, saying Chris could play "circles around him." There are even a few metal drummers that would even tell you they picked up blast beats from some of the great jazz drummers. Anyways, the point is metal isn't the only genre with greatly skilled musicians.
There are hundreds of good hip hop and pop artists who write their own songs and play instruments, you just have to take the effort and find them. (Well, probably not sooo many hip hop artists with real instruments ^^)
I see your point. I know people like Buckethead, Malmsteen and Paul Gilbert often use drum machines and other electronic tools, heck strings in most songs are keyboards. I was talking more about mainstream pop and rap, where they do hundreds of takes of a song and meticulously compile only the best parts, where they often use subtle auto tune, where every artist is a ghostwriter for another artist, and where instrumental tracks are seldom made by the singer. Obviously that's not true for everyone and there are many great artists, but that was what I was talking about. I was focusing more on the amount of effort used to make a song, but I completely agree with you about the composition. sry4l8rply

Of course now I have bands like Slayer and Municipal Waste to go along with Metallica, but they’re still my favorite just because it’s what got me into metal (and the right kind of metal, thrash). My friend though...didn’t go along with me. He kind of stopped after hearing the songs with music videos and Master of Puppets. Happyist fucks a bowl cut?
^yupp..
Happyist he's probably going through a midlife crisis
jenny tehlia lol midlife crisis at 17?
Happyist Maybe something bad happened in his life or something and to avoid killing himself he did a 360 and completely changed his personality and likes just to avoid realizing how sad he really is
It happened to 2 of my friends and it's pretty sad
I know a mate like this, used to be a great gig and moshing buddy, he now only listens to his girlfriend’s music now!
The Killswitch Engage tattoo still exists on his arm though, and he claims he only got it because it “looked cool” at the time!
Chris reminds me of Ricky if Ricky was a metalhead
haha that's what I was thinking he sounds a lot like Ricky when he mispronounces stuff
You are 100% correct
I think he looks like Screech from Saved by the Bell if he would have grown his hair long
I mean Ricky is in to helix if you want to count that
My boy who got me into metal now considers mumble rappers legends
