- Join us in our first experience of the iconic Rubicon Trail. Per usual, despite countless hours of preparation, research and planning… nothing goes as planned. However, even with jeeps breaking, tensions getting high and some dangerous night wheeling…we manage to successfully make it through the Rubicon Trail.
As always thank you all for watching! This was the trip of a lifetime and we cannot wait to go back... Rubicon 2025?

We'll see you out on the trail and we'll see you next time!

Beautifully filmed video and nice storytelling. Very few film the Wentworth Springs entrance. Great job naming some locations. We will fill in the rest.
4:00 - Postpile obstacle
6:01 - If you pause, you can see the flat line of the 2nd Loon Lake Dam where the welcome to the Rubicon sign is located
12:23 - As seen from far away at 6:01
12:46 - Hot Rock
13:55 - RTF just filmed on Saturday (9/9) a video about the history of Gatekeeper. Look for that soon on our channel
16:56 - Actually parked at Beer Tree. Look for a video from us soon on the history of Beer Tree by one of the founders
31:01 - The trip down that is called Indian Trail or The Slabs
34:23 - Big Sluice Hairpin
34:32 - Scout Hole
34:39 - Sawtooth
36:35 - Property Line
37:54 - Cadillac Hill Hairpin
39:05 - It actually is a Buick LaSalle, but Cadillac Hill sounds way cooler!
40:05 - Morris Rock (Top of Cadillac Hill, named after Steve Morris)
40:40 - Long Lake (the trail to get near it is a left turn at the bottom of Cadillac Hill near graves)
40:50 - The Jeepers Jamboree Sunday Sloppy Joe lunch campsite
Thank you! There’s so much history on the Rubicon. We hope to get out here sometime with someone who knows the trail this well to learn some more!
@@backcountrybeagles Indeed. Don't forget your next trip, we have 4.2 miles of new wheeling over 287 acres. The left turn is at mile marker 4.6.
I’ve done it dozens of times, usually on the dirt bikes, and I’ve heard most of the humor, but the way she delivered the “pothole” joke was pretty damn good 👍
Awesome did this for the second time a few weeks ago, definitely do it again and take what you learned with you. Happy trails.
Great video and phenomenal attitudes!
Thank you!
Wow! What an accomplishment! Mentally and physically challenging all around. Love how the three of you work together. The last few minutes of Ron's voiceover made me teary. That's what it's all about. Looking forward to the many adventures that lie ahead. 😊
Always carry duct tape and bailing wire in your rig. Works good for the leafs and other fixes
This is a great edit. Well done, I really enjoyed watching.
Appreciate it Will! Hope it helped with planing your Con trip! 😉
@@backcountrybeagles it 100% did. You two did a great job filming and giving a sense for the trail. Thank you for making it. Great job.
Well that was quite the adventure. Glad your all safe.Jeeps included. 🐾🐾🐾hugs to the girls!
What a great video!
Thanks for all the excitement.
Thank you ! 😊
Very nice and creative idea of making this video. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you. 👍
Thank you so much, we are so glad you enjoyed the video! A lot of thought I work goes into each one.
Great video and y’all are so lucky… we just have mud & sand here in Florida. As a photographer when y’all are doing your segments talking about the trails with the sun to your backside use a reflector to put light on your faces so your not in a shadow. I just use the sun reflector for my windshield and it works great. Happy wheeling
Every state has something to see, we’ve been to Florida in the jeep and hope to be back one day to explore some more. Thank you, I’ll have to give that a shot.
Great video you guys! The views of Lake Tahoe are definitely beautiful. I'm glad you were able to cross the rubicon trail off of your bucket list. Its definitely a very rewarding accomplishment!
Thank you, on to the next one now!
So much fun to watch! Y’all create great content! Thank you!! 🙏🙏
So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
Such a great video. So proud of you all! Such a great accomplishment. It is definitely easy to watch when I know you are all home safe.
Excellent trip my friend.. I’m planning my next trip as I type this… MOAB May 2024😎
We’d have to agree! Have a great time, perfect time to go before it gets too hot out there!
Love your video style and the Cherokee is soooo cool. Can't wait to see if you still like it on tons. I have been so hesitant to do that on mine since I use it for a similar purpose. Keep up the great work!
Appreciate the kind words man! I hope we still like it, will be quite unrealistic for overlanding/ far travel in general but I'm sure it will make it interesting!
Awesome vid. Thanks a lot 🤝💪
Can't wait to do it myself in my Jeep someday.
Definitely worth it if you ever get the chance!
Good Video
Thank you good sir
Great video as usual
Thank you so much!
Great video guys. Awesome detail and storytelling. Hugely informative.
Glad you enjoyed!
100% on the F locker over just R. Even with two lockers now I often choose to turn on F over R
That’s what I’m saying, i kept the rear disengaged most of the trip, it’s amazing what a front locker can do!
Cool video!
Thank you!
like ur dogs 😁
Thank you!😁
If you don't mind my asking, what front bumper are you running on you XJ?
It is from a company called Affordable Offroad, originally a non winch bumper, I added the winch plate and some beefier unibody mounts.
Great adventure! What's the next big one?
Thank you! We just have smaller trips planned for the next couple months, November we might do another bigger one, not sure where yet.
@@backcountrybeagles my buddy and I took a trip to Big Bend Ranch State Park in Tx a few years ago. It was an awesome adventure! Definitely a cool place to check out
We drove by that area a few years ago, didn’t have the time to stop then but I knew we were missing out! We will have to add that to our bucket list…Thanks for the suggestion!
What is the lift size and tire size on the XJ? Id like to take my XJ out there but i think i want to have at least 35s to do it. Thx in advance!
Roughly 5” and 35s. Personally we agreed 35s can get you through the trail but it is very challenging. I won’t go back until we’re on at least 37s next time. Just would make it alittle more enjoyable and quicker to get through.
@@backcountrybeagles Got ya, thanks for the info! I dont think ill put my XJ on 37s but i will probably go that route with my toyota over time. But there is plenty of stuff to do in the GJ area till i get out to the rubicon trail. Good stuff and stay safe!
@@backcountrybeagleswhere you locked front and rear or? I want to attempt it with 33s on my xj 3.5 lift
Our Cherokee is locked front and rear but most of the time we kept the rear unlocked. Just a front locker works wonders. It would be quite the challenge on 33s but it has been done before.
It’s hard to tell with any certainty, but your tire pressure looked too high. Not much flex in the tires. Looking forward to the day I do the Rubicon.
Can’t remember but we were probably at 10psi, maybe 8, didn’t wanna pop a bead out there. Next run on the rubicon we’ll have beadlocks.
@@backcountrybeagles cool beans. Hard to tell from the video.
