Taking Subscribers On The Toughest Trail In America

- The Rubicon Trail is considered one of the TOUGHEST trails in the USA. Nate @DirtLifestyle and I invited a group of our subscribers to go to California with us to find out. We planned to complete the trail in just 2 days, but got way more than we bargained for.

My only regret is not trying soup bowl one more time lol. Soooo close...
Next year we conquer together.
Props to the dude with NO lockers 😳
I know, right! Pretty insane! 😂
Hitting the Rubicon without lockers is hardly something to celebrate. He was essentially saying, “I’m willing to sacrifice everyone else’s trip in the likely event my lack of essential equipment and preparedness cause my rig to fail.” It’s a douche move.
You don't need lockers ... especially if you have limited slip with the right tires. A level of snobbery seems to aid in coloring people's opinions of various off road equipment. My first off roader was a basic tj. With ebay mods. Even ebay tires. Now mind you it never went on the Rubicon trail... but it went further than I ever expected.
@@jonathanribbing3055 you also don’t “need” a full size spare, tools, skid plates, radios, etc. Snobbery isn’t the problematic coloring here. Stupidity in thinking a window-dressed Jeep can tackle the Rubicon and other extremely difficult trails is the problematic color. Wheelers who are unwilling to come prepared have a mentality of wanting the fun without the commitment. A dependency on others to rescue them when they attempt a trail insufficiently prepared. They try to go places, like the Rubicon, where they are highly likely to have a catastrophic breakdown then rely on the preparedness of wheelers like me to save their sorry asses. I go wheeling to have fun. I go prepared. I don’t tackle trails for which I know my rig is not built. I don’t go to rescue someone who thinks his window-dressed Jeep or 4x4 can tackle something like Rubicon. I’ve done plenty of trail repairs and rescues over the years. I won’t leave the knuckleheads stranded on the trail. I just won’t. But, that doesn’t mean spending my day pulling someone like you off a trail, instead of enjoying the trail and your company, doesn’t make me grumpy. It isn’t just the damaged rig owner who ends up having a sucky day. Maybe we should start leaving the window-dressed idiots on trails like Rubicon and let them figure it out for themselves? See you on the trails, hopefully you come prepared so WE can have fun.
I’ll be going there next year, no lockers. I don’t care what the guy above me says. You don’t NEED lockers for anything. If you did then all Jeep trims would come with them.
Love to see this! I grew up on the Rubicon (25+ years), next time lets do Fordyce....hehe.🤣
Makes the Rubicon look like a paved road.
“It’s not a hard trail” is subjective. For my TJ on 33’s it’s a hard trail 😅
As slow as possible, as fast as necessary!
Also LOL on the "not Marko" note 😂
Our group was awesome and totally prepared to take as long as it takes. 👍
Thats pretty awesome you took some first time wheelers on that trail! Ive done it a few times in the XJ. Hoping to take the new Bronco and FC-150 eventually. Good video
I have an fc170 I'm trying to get moving but funds are low 😢
Another awesome video!, Glad your guys had fun, can't wait for part 2!...
I always like a good Rubicon Adventure. I live here in Central California. Did my first Rubicon back in the late 90's. Two seater Jeep
CJ5 on 35"s... Took us 3 days. I walked and spotted 99% of it.
It's a very scenic trail and a lot of fun.
I did the Rubicon in my 1985 Scrambler on 35's. Can't wait to do it again.
Great video 👍
Not-Marco, haha! Love it. Had such an amazing time.
Me too!
It’s great you made it to the Rubicon. My 4x4 club is one of many that volunteer to maintain sections of the trail to keep it open for many to enjoy.
Thats awesome! Thanks for your work.
Haha awesome bro! Love your channel! Keep up the great work! Americans and Canadians, pretty much brothers! 👍👍
The only thing missing when watching your videos is preparing some popcorn 🍿
Great to meet you all on the trail! Consider me your newest Patreon subscriber, look forward to hitting some areas across the border.
Cheers! Appreciate the support.
Had an awesome time Shaun! Definitely getting in on more trips. Keep them coming.
That is one wicked trail. Great adventure. Tks Shawn n co
I am preparing for the Rubicon Trail in 2023, in my 2020 Rubicon Gladiator. This is the absolute BEST Gladiator video I've found for my needs.
Thanks a ton for creating & posting it. BRAVO!
Great big adventure! Lots of great footage of the rigs and challenging obstacles, thanks for sharing!
Awesome stuff! Great to see two different videos on the same trip.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow I think that’s super cool that you’re the first person on UA-cam that I follow that ever invites their patrons to come alone on the trail’s.😁 that is so cool keep up the good work I love your UA-cam channel
Loved this video Shawn! Beautiful trail… sweet rigs! Great story! Loved it.
The editing job was outstanding.
Hey thank you!
Excellent video Shaun! The ground shots, drone shots, and music were on point!! Cant wait for the next one!!
Thanks Jason!

Stocked on watching you guys taking your nice rigs through!!!!!
Great job on the editing and video you got. Always looking forward to your content and being immersed in the awesome scenery. Even better being able to see you collab with other like minded people who I watch. Looking forward to future video.
Much appreciated!
9:08 EEEWWWW NIGHTSHADE BERRIES (grin)
The rubicon is high on my wheeling bucket list! Awesome video can’t wait for next week
Thanks!
Being a Gladiator owner myself, I was happy to see what you could and could not do with the longer wheel base. I often wondered if I should bring my Wrangler out on this instead of the Gladiator, but you did just fine so I think the Glad it is.
Yeah I was able to take most of the harder lines without much trouble. There was one or two spots the length was too much.
Rubicon Trail is on my bucketlist. Looks like you had an awesome crew with you, lucky patreons. How many of them were newbies? Definitely looked like they all had capable machines. Hopefully I can make it on the next one :)
These dudes are living the dream!
YES!! Welcome to one of our home trails!🥰
Next time you're out this way, lets try Fordyce.🙃😁😉
Respect. 🙏💪
Definitely one of your best vids 🤙🏻
That trail is in my future. It's on my bucket list. Till then, I watch videos.
Awesome guys!
Awesome video! We're definitely going to take our Jeep on the trail and add it to our collection of accomplished trails! :)
Great video! I just got back from the Jeep Jamboree and that trail is no joke!
It's definitely more intense than I had expected.
Such a rad experience!
Was great wheeling with you!
Man those jeeps are Amazing!
Great Videos Brother!
Really awesome. Great video 💯
Thank you 🙌
i don't know why i'm loving you, is it because who you are or where you are at.
Must be your good taste! lol
Absolutely awesome!!
Glad you like it!
Shaun this Vlog was Awesome
The Amazing Trail
Lots of Amazing Off Road Vehicles
The Beautiful Scenery and a lot of Good Friends
And The New Trail Wrecker did Great
Thanks Daniel, I appreciate you!
You should try Fordyce trail if you want a tough one.. not far from Rubicon
I always like your Canadian trails you do and I've heard of this one I have preferred your region for having the most beautiful landscape scenery but I really like this Trail because it has because it has some serious obstacles that test not the vehicle you purchased but the driver himself and sometimes have a part on what can and what will not be achieved
Excellent work Brother.
WOW what an amazing trail.. Thanks for bringing us along.. WOW
So.... Next year I'll bring my *stock* Jeep KJ down to the Rubicon Trail (haha).
Good shit!!
We ran this a week after you guys and this was super fun to watch after the fact! Great videos!
Thanks!
Awesome video! 🏁🏁
That Yoto tho 😩, love seeing the Toyota love on this channel!
That ol flat fender is gorgeous man. What a great lookin rig
Awesome wheeling!
Only if tellico was still open in Tennessee. Those were the best trails
I loved Tellico!!
That trail kicked some ass.
I know david, i seen the after pictures, now i can see how it happened, nice video
I've heard the story a number of times, from a old isuzu head tec.
.
The first 100% stock auto over that trial was a 1989 RS trooper..
Very rare ride..nowadays..
I'm new to the channel but I'm liking it.
Never wheeled before, so let’s do the Rubicon trail. Wow, that’s daring…
This trail is so fun, did it abt 2 months ago in 85 cj 7!
that’s high level off-roading 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
Great video. Definitely not taking my Raptor on the Rubicon. Hahaha
I love the Canadian jokes. I always get a chuckle out of them. ... are there multiple line choices and you guys are mainly doing the harder ones? ... who is filming you? Is that Nate doing the filming, cuz man he did a great job. He got some really cool shots, great angles. Some nice cinematography going on there. Who ever it was has a good eye for it.
In some places there's options. Nate and I filmed each other. Thanks!
@@TheStoryTillNow You have a bit of competition when it comes to filming. You guys kill it
Great video! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
I used to drive this every year in my TJ Rubicon before I moved out of CA. Man I miss this!!!
That was dope!
Fav part of this was Shaun wearing a trd shirt 🤘🥹
I think you are mistaken lol
My first trail was Holcomb Creek in Big Bear in the early 90s. That was in a 72 Blazer with a rear Detroit locker.
Trail isn’t that difficult , but it is demanding.
If you aren’t paying attention and focused , you will find yourself in a bad situation with a busted rig.
It’s incredibly rewarding yet very demanding.
If you try to take easy lines can a stock 2021 2Dr Rubicon make it without body damage? Only mod is a Warn winch.
There's a parts delivery service during peak season. Parts are flown in by helicopter.
@@danc1197 Do they deliver steak 🥩 and lobster 🦞 too?
Funny how Soup Bowl really hasn't changed much in the last twenty years.
Y'all have to make your way down to Colorado and hit Mount Blanca. I haven't seen any recent footage of anybody going up that trail. It's home to Jaws 1 2 and 3 🤙
There's quite a few places out there in the valley to camp too 🤙
Great stuff! Wondering how the Jeep with no lockers did in 1st video!? I don't have any and have been fine so far but no Rubicon Trail yet 😉
This Trail Is Nuts!
I'm a Bronco guy, but that Taco is bad ass.
Seeing the guy standing right next to the winch cable in the next episodes preview without even having a winch blanket on it made my heart drop smh.
It’s a synthetic line.
I have a 21 2dr Rubicon and I’m blown away with its capabilities just stock. I installed a Warn winch (only mod) and wonder how it would do on this trail…???
That looks like so much fun. It looks expensive too, if something breaks.
You definitely have to be prepared for anything.
Just wait for part two …
Bro I gotta apologize…I fell off watching your videos for like 6 months! I don’t even know why?! I watch this video and I’m reminded why I subscribed! Epic shit man, I’m back on the bus and now I’m catching up with the videos I missed! I didn’t even know you got a new rig?! lol Damn I was missing out!
Welcome back! Thank you
Looking forward to doing this next year with no lockers
Damn, Sean…. You have no shame. Always making other off roading channels look like complete low budget, after thought videos. 😜. Great stuff brother. Keep ‘em coming.
Someday.... Wonder how much fun this would be in my Willy's jl manual transmission! Lol. Definitely makes things much more technical
We had a manual Gladiator with us. He made it through fine but his clutch didn't.
Great video as usual 👍🏼 What size tire and lift on the gladiator?
4.5" on 37s
Grueling and relentless... but fun and great views!
Last time out we hit Fordyce after the Rubicon. That is a tough trail. Rubicon is moderate I would say.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos. I was going to challenge you to review the Fordyce Creek trail in northern California. This used to be the Sierra Treck trail. It's off I 80 at the Donner summit. This trail used to be rated significantly more difficult than the Rubicon!
Definitely on my list to do at some point.
How much Ground clearance your modified tacoma has ?
That Tacoma is boss af
Hey Sean awesome video as usual brother, I'm confused about something though I just watched the video on durk garage and you were wheeling with him and that was from 8 days ago, but you're in this video wheeling in Idaho last night in Idaho last week so how are you wheeling with Derek garage and wheeling in Idaho at the same time?? Also I saw with the garage you have a new Topper for the back of your truck it looks like an RTT topper to me but I could be wrong anyways anyways the new truck's coming along from what I saw on Derek Rodger's video Can't wait to see it when it's fully done!!!!!
Well the date the video is posted isn't the date that it happened. I'm shooting videos a month in advance, and Clint is shooting videos a week in advance.
Cool story.
when you do to 40s are you going to do 1-tons or D44 upgrades? RCV/truss/axle shafts
1 tons
