Idk why people from London always compare their bad areas with NYC. NYC is a very safe city for American standards, it has it's pockets of bad areas but the majority of the areas in New York are very wealthy and nice. Also most of the flats that were built in the 60s/70s were only designed to last 40-50 years, so most of them will end up being demolished if they haven’t already. They were built very cheaply in a time when the UK was very poor and recovering from being a war zone

Ahhh North Woolwich 😞 North Woolwich is still rough today. They haven’t even refurbished the bus stop at North Woolwich Ferry. They have an abandoned police station too. I remember there used to be a silverlink train that ran between Richmond and North Woolwich (you used to be able to take it to Stratford as well…memories). But the train officially stopped running in 2006. It’s now replaced by London Overground. They demolished the station and since then, it’s just been open space. The area used to be so lively, it’s just so derelict, empty and dead today. All there is is the ferry. I live about 10 mins away in Silvertown/London City Airport, near pontoon dock and the difference is astronomical- so much gentrification where I live. I have amazing memories going to school with people from NW though ❤

Ahhh North Woolwich 😞 North Woolwich is still rough today. They haven’t even refurbished the bus stop at North Woolwich Ferry. They have an abandoned police station too. I remember there used to be a silverlink train that ran between Richmond and North Woolwich (you used to be able to take it to Stratford as well…memories). But the train officially stopped running in 2006. It’s now replaced by London Overground. They demolished the station and since then, it’s just been open space. The area used to be so lively, it’s just so derelict, empty and dead today. All there is is the ferry. I live about 10 mins away in Silvertown/London City Airport, near pontoon dock and the difference is astronomical- so much gentrification where I live. I have amazing memories going to school with people from NW though ❤

Don't try and say East London is expensive to live in. The newbuilds being propped up in places like Canning Town doesn't make it less of a shithole. As for New York well yeah I'm not entirely sure if his statement held up but he excluded murder, and whether it was dangerous when you lived there depends on when you lived there (1970s-1990s was when violent crime is said to have been at its worse).
It will probably be a while until I read your response but if you do respond take into account I have lived in East London for half my life and often visited since so know what I'm talking about. It's a sentimental place but it's low income and there's no way around it
