The Arifs were well-liked and very successful but nobody 'ran' South London. It was too wild.

Living in South London in the eighties and never hearing of the Arifs is like growing up in Bethnal green in the sixties and never hearing of the Krays

  • @Hackett1066

The Driscoll brothers ran the show with Terry mcann as the muscle 😂

The title of the video is misleading. Some of the video is about Arifs, and the rest is about 40 Thiefs. The on and off switch between two sories is annoyingly done.

Growing up I was always so interested in being a criminal until I ended up in some situations myself and then I realised its not fun at all this sort of Lifestyle comes with a heavy price I dont recommend it to anyone.

Was in jail with Dennis a decent human that didn't go round starting trouble but if you wanted some they'd respond...gentlemen.

Knew Dogan in early nineties. Dapper geezer who liked his jewellry. He ran the Fisher FC and he refurbed the soccer stadium in docklands and new grass pitch also. Just remembered...he took on Malcolm Allison as manager. He had a nice bakers next to my office in Walworth. He got nicked with a lorry load of hash on the M 1 and got an 8yr stretch. He moved to N.Cyprus after that.

For anyone that's interested, there's a book called "Stop! Armed Police" by Stephen Smith. It contains a section about the Arifs and their illfated raid on the securicor van in 1990. Theres photos of the raid (taken by cops) so it's worth a rwad just for that.

I used to run Peckham in the late 90s.. well, I used to run my estate. When I say my estate, I mean my flat... Yep, proper naughty moody geezer I was.. 💪💪👊

One of my uncles was a prolific thief. It was part of the culture in impoverished communities. So the thieves back then were highly skilled; they had to be, just to compete. I was just a small child and I could never understand, until my teens, why - after dark - he was always out shopping. I think I finally know where the phrase came from.
