    I’ve been hearing you guys mentioning him for years, but never quite knew who he was. And now he’s here at last! Great!! Love his energy! He’s actually like an 18 year old, but way wiser, 🤣.
    A treat for all of us! (another one...) Thank you guys. 🙏

    TPS has inspired me so much with all things guitar that I built a Partscaster and gigged with it for the first time last week. I am now building my own pedals and deep down the hole. The fun is totally in the journey as much as the destination. Thanks gents!

    What a fantastic VCQ!! Thank you!! 2 weeks ago I got to see The Brothers Landreth at a small coffee shop and my word was it good!!! Everything was impressive about their performance but the one stand out thing was their use of dynamics. Joey with 2 Two Rocks on stage would bring it down to a whisper and build to a fuzzy frenzy and it was amazing!! Plus they were the nicest, laid-back most humble group of guys that took the time to chat, shake hands and sell their own merch. It was surreal sitting 15' from the stage hearing them in person after getting turned onto them 5 years ago thanks to you guys...thank you!! Going to see The Teskey Brothers this Thursday as well. Wondered if you have given them a listen yet?? Cheers!!

    Yes, just last night I set the amp for optimum "clean" tone in my room without any pedals. Only then did I have a "platform" to "color". Then I made sure the amp was still "present" when a majority of pedals were "on". The I tweaked for clearest interplay of various pedal combinations until no rivalry was detected. I intentionally played pieces which normally enjoy little to no OD with all pedals on and reduced the more raucously self centered sounds into submission. Then I took a picture of the amp settings and the pedal board.

    1:21:11 Yeah! I’ve got my dad’s old Blues Deluxe and he had a little tweeter put in there in addition to the 12” and you can blend it in with a great big chicken head knob at the back of the amp and it just kills.

    Wow - great to see Paul Stacey in this scenario. I saw him once playing a free gig at the Festival Hall bar sometime around 1990. I was waiting to go and see another gig - maybe Birelli Lagrene or Billy Cobham next door and he was playing a black PRS alongside Dave O'Higgins (sax), I believe his brother, Jeremy on drums, and possibly Laurence Cottle on bass. Super lineup just doing a free and rather amazing gig. I also heard his music on a sampler CD called Six Strings and a Plank of Wood, which highlighted both established and up and coming talents on the British jazz guitar scene, including Steve Topping and Jim Mullen. His playing really blew my socks off. I still haven't found them.

    Hello Lads. I just wanted to drop a quick line that gets to the heart of just one of the reasons you’ve both meant so much to me as a player and musician as s whole… I had to build a travel board for an upcoming gig that will require my band to pack light, thus I must leave my G3 based, Schmidt Array at home. I put together a rather nice board on a PedalTrain Metro MAX using four gain pedals connected to a QMX 4 going into a Line 6 HX Effects. It works, sounds good and does what I need it to do but instantly I could hear what it was lacking. Gone was the wonderful, immersive sound of my main board as was its ease of use and intuitiveness. The moral of the story? All the things you’ve been showing us really do matter and do make a huge difference. And because I listened and learned I have a rig that always gives me my best sound so I can make music. Cheers and love!

    EQ for a venue. I find the most critical is removing the “mud” from 150-250 Hz in some rooms. Sometimes fixing the bass amp eq helps everyone else.

    Paul was part of the Finn Brothers show on the night after Hessie passed? I was there at the RAH that night on the Monday night show, in 2005 (I"m pretty sure it was Easter Monday...) .
    That was without a single doubt, the most moving, emotionally intense gig that I've ever been to in my life. It was that intense you could stick your tongue out and taste it. My late wife and I got to the hall late in the day and didnt even know that Hessie had gone, but could sense that something was up, something about the atmosphere in there was different. From Bic Runga's support slot to Neil just stopping in the middle of Fall At Your Feet, walking to the edge of the stage and saying to the audience "I'm going to need your help with this one" and just singing the opening line of the chorus and letting the crowd do the rest.
    I felt a shiver go all over me when it happened.
    I've never experienced anything else like it in over 40 years of gig-going. Many many layers beyond magical.
    Far out doesnt even begin to describe it....

    My first two pedals, bought in 1981(without any thought of cost), were a Ross Compressor and an Ibanez TS-808. The Compressor died and I traded the TS-808 for an acoustic. I can easily live without the TS-808 but have not found a compressor pedal (now on my third attempt) to rival how I felt about that one, then. I still have & expect to ever) my first "good" electric which is a 1978 Ibanez PF-300 (with a "tri-phase" switch).

    Yes to the bar stools with back support! I think Paul should officially become the cohost of TPS. Anytime that Mick or Dan is out, Paul fills in. Obviously his schedule will allow this, as he doesn’t have much going on. What a wonderful session. Seriously, Paul should become a bit of a “part of the family,” and be featured much more regularly. What a warm, approachable, accomplished, knowledgeable fellow. And obviously he could do this as he doesn’t have much else to do. Absolutely loved this Q & A. Cheers y’all!

    You boys are making me happy with my choices. My recent purchase of an Eastman T59v (335 style guitar) and last weekends purchase of a Vox AC15c1x are proving to be a wonderful combination with a few pedals. Like most viewers I thought the Johnny Marr episode was such a gift, but Paul is a very interesting character also. You guys really do produce some of the best content I have seen. On a personal note, I was glad to see Dan tearing up to beautiful music (Andy Timmons episode for one), because music has always had that effect on me, but I haven't seen anyone else that has the same reaction. Must be something in the name. Cheers Daniel.

    Re: the “budget friendly” TC pedals convo, I’ve got the Tailspin Vibrato and the Skysurfer Reverb on my board currently and they’re great. It doesn’t surprise (or bother) me at all that they’re rehoused Behringer pedals.. The benefit being that they (unlike the Behringer pedals) are in metal boxes.

  • @ryangunwitch-black
    @ryangunwitch-black 7 місяців тому +1

    1:01:23 First of all $300-$600 isn’t really mid-priced these days but I’m just being nitpicky.
    Squier Classic Vibe Tele, Blues Jr IV and a couple of Behringer pedals and maybe one JHS 3 Series pedal to round out the board. You can gig with that in any club with a decent PA and good wedges. Of course, if the monitors are sub par (which they often are) and you’re playing with a smackin’ drummer they won’t hear you.
    😂 I love where Dan’s head is at because I’m often the same way. “Let’s play a $350 guitar through a $450 pedal that’s been discontinued. Heck. Somebody get me a Klon Centaur. Stat!”
    And the BB Preamp by Xotic is my all time favorite overdrive pedal. Always on with the gain set low, it is marvelous. Twist that gain nipple and make it roar. 😂

    I don't remember what song might have inspired me to play guitar, but I _do_ remember the song that made me desperately want to buy my first bass: _The Lemon Song_ by Led Zeppelin. JPJ's bass line in that song dug deep to my very core. And as much as I love playing guitar, I've played loads more bass over the years.

    In 1989 I saw The Alarm open for Bob Dylan at an outdoor venue in Old Orchard Beach, Maine (USA). Dylan's sound was horrible. The Alarm had the second best live sound I have ever heard (Pumpkins at Lollapalooza '94 in Phoenix, AZ sounded better than ANY studio recording I have ever heard). When The Alarm did an encore, they did a Woody Guthrie song a-capella. The band members plus their hired keyboard player..they were SO perfect that they when they held chords, they twice caught octaves (plural) in overtones.
    Nothing beats live and nothing beat proper stage volume.

    Dan and Mick! QUESTIONS: I have two Katana 50s (a MkI and a MkII) connected ABY with a Radial Big Shot for wet/dry fun. Is there a recommended spacing between the amps for optimal sound? Also, are they OK on the floor or should they be raised up a bit? Cheers! And cool to see Paul.

    • @ThatPedalShow
      @ThatPedalShow  7 місяців тому +1

      No rules Paul. We run ours next to one another because wet/dry is about one homogenous sound, not two sides of left and right. The raised up bit… more bass on the floor (usually), less bass and more in-yer-ear up high. Good luck!
