for me, Good-focused Chaotic Good can be summed up in a single sentence: "I will do what I must to save the land, even if I must destroy it a little bit."

  • @Ainarilify

Chaotic good individuals do the right thing, when they personaly feel its time for them to act.
They are going to stand up for what they believe in, even if theres no reason, nor need for them to do so.
They decide when and if to act.
    Nobody else.
Chaotic alignments are based on individuality and its (forceful) expression.
"I'am going to do this whether you want me to or not! (Though I will refrain from doing so if my actions would cause you and your liberties much harm.)"

Wow man, I don’t know anything about d and d but I did find everything you said very beautiful philosophically. Well said. The alignment system may not fit our world perfectly but it does make much sense. I just went through all my friends and classifies them in the alignment system! Haha!

CG is one of my favorite Alignments because it has the "flexibility" or "versatility" to do Good. CG can be one of your best resources to get justice when LG has its hands tied or NG has too much doubt.
A Paladin can't/won't punish that bandit lord who did you evil because he was declared innocent(for any technical reason) in a trial of your nation's law? For the Chaotic Good warlock(I had one as such in 3.5e) that's no problem at all. Just a decent amount of compensation or reward.

Chaotic good the alignment that perfectly describes Monkey D Luffy

Despite the common joke about Batman being every alignment, I would put him in this category as well.
Batman doesn't actively despise the poice and is willing to cooperate with them. However, he doesn't join them since he thinks that following the rules of that organization would keep him from doing his job. When the police department cooperates with him, they basically act netral Good as Batman technically is a criminal.
What you say about pushing someone in line in order to make them do their part doesn't seem Chaotic Good to me. It mre sounds like something a lawful character would do - even a lawfful evil character would do that - preferably through brainwashing.
A chaotic good character would first think "do we actually need this person to pull their weight?" They would rather advocate that it is okay if some people don't want to be productive members of society. They would advocate to give to the homeless independently from the question if they are to blame for their situation.
For a chaotic good character, it is a great luxury that they could live that way. That doesn't mean that they actually want to live that way. They assume that most people are that way. They believe that people want to be useful for society but still desire the option not to be.

I literally can't play a character that isn't CG or NG. I believe myself as a CG person. It's hard to RP a character that doesn't reflect your own moral compass. At least for me.

I'm thinking of writing a series of short stories in which there are two protagonists: one lawful good male and one chaotic good female, but I didn't know how to make the female heroic or make it to where the two of near opposite alignments tolerated each other. Seeing this video has made me learn how to fix that problem. Thanks.

Thank you for answering so quickly. I was actually asking because of a character I'm getting ready to play who's CG and the campaign was starting that way. He's CG because of his branch of human's culture (they're nomadic gypsy like (not the polite term, but can't remember the polite term anymore after hearing that version so much)) and was worried I might have to switch to NG. Thankfully it sounds like I don't.

I’m a chaotic good so TYSM. I LOVE your review!! It was spot on, like If i have to team up with some sort of organization to kill the Big Baddie™️ i’ll of course do it, but i wouldn’t be very happy during it. I know in my mind that i’m doing the right thing, but i wouldn’t appreciate just being lumped together with the group and be expected to act and think a certain way due to that. Plus, if there were rules that would prevent me from helping others, i’d break them in approximately 0.2 nanoseconds. People say chaotic goods are the “least good good alignment,” but in reality we’re focused on the shit that actually matters, aka helping others, and recognize that sometimes rules are inefficient for the situation and MUST be broken in order for good to be maximized.

While he's King of Chaotic for sure, whether it's Good or Neutral is up for grabs. Myself? I'd go good. He has the genuine interest of his adopted peoples at heart. However the good of his people is in direct conflict with the good of The Watch so he's either CG or CE depending on which side of The Wall you're on!
Side note, I always had Karl Urban cast as Mance in my head. I think that'd work well.

Examples of CG drug dealers are: the pretty lady from the show Weeds ( neutral good ?) ,the young guy from Pinapple Express and ,for a more wide example , most hippies who take/give/champion/sell LSD ,shrooms ,weed, ect . BELIEVING that they are liberating others minds (wheather or not that is true is irrelevant. ) Winnie the Pooh is a standard pothead character and hes harmless and kind.

  • @Onionkid99

Actually, in Saw 4 ( I think thats the one where he kills the LE insurance man who manipulated the system to cut his benifits ,thus dooming John Kramer) and I would probably see his INTENTIONS as CG but his carry through CE ,so CN all together . What allignment is the Jigsaw killer ?

I'm a fan of the Ace Attorney game series, so I was thinking about how the alignments translate into that series. Maya Fey seems to reflect the values of CG the most. Would never intentionally harm someone, but doesn't like rules & regs, discipline, and has unorthodox methods of doing things.

The A-team would be an example of Chaotic Good. Col. Decker would be more along the lines of Lawful Neutral.
In Nikita Season 3, Nikita, Alex, and Birkoff would be Chaotic Good, Ryan Fletcher would be Lawful Good, The President would be Lawful Neutral, Amanda would be Neutral Evil (also Percy before he died at the end of Season 2). Sam would be chaotic evil.

Yeah, it's been a while since I made this video and the whole "CG dude whoops some ass to get his friends in line" aspect is one I'd change if I re-did my take on CG.

Really good clear descriptive vid Onionkid99. On the point of a CG character beating someone into line who isn't pulling their weight, I think not though. The mere act of doing that would be akin to taking away that person's basic freedom and choice. More likely the CG would leave them be.

  • @Legion1132

Han was CN in begining because ,CN want live his live and don't care about others but they don't want hurt them too. CN cares about his friends too ,examples Jack Sparrow goes back help friends when kraken attack ship or Annah from Planescape she will defend nameless one until she die because she loved him . CG cares about others and will help them but he still want do what he want when that not hurts others.

They might. It's not exactly the most Good of actions, and they run the danger of becoming a deranged vigilante, but a CG character might assassinate a vile villain who went free. The Good half of their alignment would probably jab at their conscience too.

I definitely see where you're coming from, and you might be right, but I'd actually say Lawful Good. For the reason, that it doesn't make sense for a lawful character to be connected to "the law." Maybe a law, but that law might be a code. Like, a Lawful Good Paladin of Abadar would probably have a code that disalows him to do anything that would halt or endanger the economy. In that case, if there is a law in a town that disalows the sale of bread, that Lawful Good character would be breaking the hell out of that law, and committing any act (that isn't like, evil) to crush this law. He wouldn't kill somebody, but he'd burn down a contraband-wheat-products-blocking building, as long as there's nobody in it. He'd do battle, but not kill, all those who seek to thwart the (in the paladin's mind) noble and good economy.

  • @Onionkid99

Aha, I didn't know the history of the law/chaos axis. You know, it does make more sense when viewed through that lense. Civilization and the Wild, yes I like it.

Well, Digger Dan the Dunmer Discoverer recently aired a 5-part investigative report (on Whiterun's Evening News) regarding a ring of Skyrim knee-surgeons. In this very revealing series of reports, Digger Dan exposed this ring as the very ones that actually shot the arrows into the knees of the poor former-adventurers of Skyrim. These surgeons created their own clientele, for profit! Very disturbing, indeed! They even maxxed out their Archery perk trees! So sad. What's this world coming to?

5 years late, but the god of the kenku (Quorlin) could fit here. He's mostly seen as a trickster(chaotic), but when he was given the responsibility of the kenku he didn't totally left them to their own devices (good) but just kind of.
So he's kind of in between chaotic good and chaotic neutral.

  • @AriaLunaCampbell
    @AriaLunaCampbell 9 років тому +5

I kind of feel like Chaotic Good at least somewhat embodies anarchism as people like Noam Chomsky define it. Basically, be good to others and work together and you won't need demagogues from on high to rule over you. I also find it a decent definition of the Han Solos and and Robinhoods of the world. Arguably most freedom fighters and civil rights activists embody this too. If I'm being honest, I feel chaotic good exemplifies what most people try to or at least want to be or see themselves. Good, upstanding people willing to do or stand up for what is right even if it means upsetting the status quo.

    • @ufodeath
      @ufodeath 8 років тому +3

While chaotic good is a very compatible alignment to the ideology of anarchist-communism, It is very restrictive to apply specific ideologies to certain alignments. Two Chaotic goods can have wildly different approaches for how a chaotic good system should operate. Mature chaotic goods will think in terms of mutual cooperation for the 'good of everyone', basically in an effort to create a very good society based on equality, Many neutral goods could also favor this approach if they found it a non-suicidal and feasible way to create positive change. Immature chaotic goods might go on a hopeless crusade against any percieved form of evil, or simply be like a robin hood. You can have organized or disorganized chaotic goods, and you can have thoughtful or aimless chaotic goods. I think other alignments can be just as diverse while staying true to the vague terms of their alignment. Personally I identify as a neutral good. I love many of the thoughts and ideas expressed from libertarian-communist philosophies, and incorporate it into my own views. I used to identify as an anarchist-communist actually, but i now consider myself a libertarian-marxist (AKA Left-Communist).
What I hate more than anything about applying singular ideologies to certain alignments are stereotypes that couldn't be more inaccurate. For example, the idea that all Chaotic goods are basically these "right wing libertarians that refuse any kind of organized society" - honestly, that much better matches the selfishness that comes with chaotic neutral, where as chaotic goods are the anti-thesis of this selfishness and self-absorbed "Rugged individualism".

      @@ufodeath 1. """""An"""""-com would be chaotic evil.
      2. "Left-libertarian" is an *oxymoron* . You are either a leftist and want to impose your economic authoritarianism on everyone, or you are a weird libertarian who wants to live in a commune or a socialist or mutualist society, but do NOT want to impose on others your way of life. Leftist or libertarian - PICK ONE.
      3. "Right wing libertarians" don't refuse any kind of organized society - we are against the State imposing its will on people by force.

CE is very unlikely even for the most "insane" and sadistic vigil antes , though there IS a serial killer /vigil ante Jigsaw ,whoes motives and morality vary from movie to movie , his victims may be more or less dispicable depending . Some might say that Jigsaw is CE (duh) but he has too many values and do it for the "greater good " . Lawful evil doesnt fit for him either ,he doesnt want power its self , neutral evil is out of the question ,he is driven by altruism ,so LN?

    Actually Liberated Evil sounds fun.
Chaotic alignments are a bit difficult to pin down. Robin Hood is doing Chaotic stuff in a disciplined and Lawful manner, like Batman. I put Batman as NG and Robin Hood as CG because Robin is always operating outside the law, whereas Batman aides the police.

I have a theory about drug dealers (not the syndicate ones ) but many pot dealers , LSD chemists (like tim leary) , supporters of psychedelic use , drug dealers who believe 1. taking drugs is someones choice 2. even though its 'illegal " to sell drugs and it doesnt matter , they make sure that their product is clean 3. they probably would take the drug themselves/believe its positive. Meth/coke falls under CN or CE, for users or dealers ,possibly N or NE not CG.

Out of all the terminology in RPG's the use of the word chaotic was a poor choice in my opinion. Robin the hood is CG but was highly methodic and a creature of habit who's word was honorable. Not very choatic in my opinion but in D&D sure he's CG. There's not enough chaos in chaotic alignments for my taste.

Chaotic Good is the least good alignment. That person can be abrasive and they're Hot-Blooded. They don't like being ordered by Law-aligned leader and start fights with neutral people. Worst of Chaotic Good is Cowboy Cop. They work with the police, but they don't play by their roles. God help if you're in a room with him/her, and he/she will start roughing you up to get answers. , or worst. This is why I don't like Chaotic Good.

drew6874 i think you’re thinking in stereotypes. A Chaotic good is a person who values individual freedom and independence, and is simultaneously benevolent and working for the greater good. The alignments are broad, so that’s all they are. You’re taking about a very specific situation, which just isn’t how the alignments work.

lawful good is the least good alignment.
that person can be stubborn and holier than thou. they dont like when people are not submissive and do not bow down before others or when people dare go against tradition for for their own dreams or needs . lawful good people often start fights who are neutral people.
worst of lawful good is the paladin or cop , they hate with someone is being mischievous or is not putting their entire being into doing what their told or their job.
and they will force you to comply with traditional and the want of your peers even if the person has other dreams or aspirations the lawful good character will tell them to stop being selfish and only do the wants and needs of their family or boss.
this is why i dont like lawful good
