Hawk 250 On The Interstate Highway Ride

- I decided to finally take the Hawk 250 for a rip on the interstate. The speed limit is 70 here and with the hilly terrain the Hawk had a hard time maintaining that speed on uphill grades, but did fine otherwise. My goal when I started this whole project was to be able to go 70mph so I can at least say I achieved my goal. On flat terrain I had no problem maintaining 70mph. The GPS on my camera usually reads a few MPH lower than the Hawk speedometer. I will need to compare it in the future to my Garmin GPS. I think I will continue to stick to the dirt roads and smaller paved roads but if my travels requires a quick blip on the highway, I know I can do without causing too much of a traffic nightmare.

That run must feel like you're attempting a land speed record at Bonneville.
Lol. Pretty much.
😂
😂
Lol
I just attempted a highway run on 80/94 in Northwest Indiana. My bike maintained 70-75mph with no issues. My Hawk has shinko tires, new carb,17 front and 45 rear sprockets.
Does your set up sit comfortably around 60 without it screaming at high rpms
@@Terror0619 I have the same set up and it runs great at 60
Where did you purchase it man?
Bullshit, I have the same mods and even an upgraded bigger carb and mine tops out at 60-65
Dude if you are going 70 and these are cars are passing you shame on them they are definitely breaking the speed limit.
You read my mind lol
Hopefully sarcasm lol
Sadly most idiots on the road go 80+ in a 70. Usually in a truck or suv. Worse when semis do it
Wasn't for them, we wouldn't need car insurance anymore
@@tatsumaru12345 If the freeway isn't filled with traffic I see no problem with going 100+. As long as you are driving something reliable, this bike at 70 is unsafer then if you drove the h2r in 100+ not accounting for traffic ofc.
Thats why the right lane exists
Nice bike too many crazies on the road for me these days !
Hey now I’m a crazy
@@brittanybradford9239 yes you are… 😎
Carry a gun.
Really need that sixth gear for the highway ride
I did not think that bike could do 70 miles an hour 70 mile an hour for two wheels is probably all you need
Fixing to buy one today. It did pretty good for what it is. I won’t be running hwy mostly in city. Some hwy at 60 mph. A little scooter to get around it’s pretty awesome!
That 6th gear is a game changer
I thought these bikes were only 5 speed?
@@mattm4991 he swapped it
Is it hard on the bike to run it 60-70 for a long time ?
I'm curious what kind of decibels you were generating at that speed, because it sounded loud AF.
In stock form my DLX only gets up to 65 if I go into a full tuck. Haven't done any mods other than put a better plug and raise the bars up 2 inches so far.
Got a fine little honey waiting to go on a Date, make it there right on Time...She puts out to great Speed for Enduro Dirt bike...
Congratulation you have been the fastest speed I have seen. but you do have a lot of cojones to go that fast on a Chinese bike on the highway. I just got myself a Hawk DLX
I think I'll be too much of a wimp to pull that off on the highway. But you did survive it.lol 👍🏻
Got my DLX to 79mph on I-75 following an 18-wheeler.
It can hit 74 in the open.
@@DarksideSleemo
That's pretty cool dude what kind of gear do you have on your bike?
@@DarksideSleemo
Thank you for replying to my comment I guess somebody have to
🤔😏
@@lv-blackhawk I played around with a few different sprocket setups but I'm running the stock sizes now. It got faster as I broke it in. It's at 5,000 miles now and the engine is running great but I've had plenty of other issues. It's rattling itself to death. Everything breaks or falls off but it's a blast and I've abused it on the highway so the bike isn't really to blame.
Greate info! Thank you!
I wonder how long that motor can sustain this speed.
Same
Untill it needs fuel again
@@Fomogarage 😂
a good 30mins-45 mins i’ve taken my hawk 35 miles out to the country and hunted hogs on it
These are a clone of Honda engines from the 80s I have an oil cooler to help keep the motor happy ....another you tuber put 30k on a stock hawk
Nice. Have you tried balancing the wheels? I wonder if that would change top speed?
They were balanced at my local Honda dealer
You got passed by a gum wrapper! Lol! I was actually amazed that the wind noise wasn’t worse. Good shield design. Thanks for the vid!
I had a Honda XL250R that would cruise 75 all day.
Very different. The XL250R had about 10 more horsepower with an advertised top speed of 79.5mph.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone I’m also assuming the Honda XL250R cost significantly more.
Wide open... they will run well at high rpms.. until they don’t anymore!!!!!
What's your weight I just ordered mine from Orion Motorsports. Gonna be here in a few days. Got the Carb and NGK spark plug upgrades. I'm about 150 lbs.
Curious to know at what speed you topped out... I'm only like 15 pounds heavier than you
my 1973 kawasaki 90 did 65, never had a problem passing people uphill on a back road. love the old bikes
Might just rip out the whole block and build a buggy with it
Thank you for answering the road test question I’ve been wondering.
ive had the video up for years try a search next time if that curious.
Not bad for a Chinese brand, I'm even thinking about buying one 👍👍👍👍👍
It took a lot of work to get it to that point but for the money they are fun projects as long as you have the ability to work on them yourself.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone ok thanks 👍
Nice vid. How did you get your mirrors to stop vibrating like crazy? Mine stay in place but it’s tough to see out of them.
The engine I installed is balanced and the bike runs very smoothly down the road with no vibration at all. Tires make a big difference too. If you are running knobbies it will vibrate more. I have 50/50 tires that have been balanced as well.
Please tell me what windshield that is

will any motorcycle shop repair this
Not sure. I do my own work. I wouldn't want to have to pay a shop to work on this. This is a DIY bike. The maintenance costs would be way more than the bike.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone i asked because I live in an apartment and not sure i could do my own repairs. Do you think a repair shop could do scheduled maintenance
@@ernst565 yes
Jack of All Master of None awesome thanks
There shops specialise in these china bikes.. They are easy to work on for average mechanics
I'll have to post a video of my Brozz on the highway. I can hit 73 on my gps. A guy on china riders got his Brozz up to 78 He port and polished his head though. So in comparison with all the work you've put in. I don't feel you got much more top speed. Maybe power off the gate. Other then that great build!
Yeah but just imagine if I modified this engine for more power. A cam change and a port job and it would really wake up. I mainly like the 6 gears honestly and it was a fun project even if I didn't gain anything. Much much smoother running engine than the Hawk engine also.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone I watched a lot of your build. You did a great job. That thing would be keeping up with japanese if you did all that work to it. I can understand the benefits of another gear. I feel like I'm ringing this thing out all the time. Just figured that thing would of hit 80 no problem. Again GREAT build though.
How’s the bike holding up? I’m looking to sell my Chinese keeway c light 125cc to buy this one simply because I’m too tall
⚠️** high end isn't high end until you swap sprockets, throw on a different carb jetted around 110 or 115**⚠️
I like the windshield/windscreen. I didn't see it in your Amazon marketplace, where did you get it?
Balls of steel... Balls of steel my dude.
You just upgraded the carb? That’s it?
No. Loncin RE250 engine swap.
What kind of windshield did you get? Is it from Amazon?
Do you think this bike could do a Texas to Montana trip,? how long do you think I could run it in the highway at around 60, 65?
This bike is a custom build. A stock Hawk 250 would be a rough ride that far. I'd have a spare chain and sprockets. Everything on this one was upgraded. It would be comfortable at 60mph for a long trip.
Nice video and good job on the bike
God bless you haha haha. One day man one day.
Hmmmm so u never did the rear sprocket swap huh... Dam
I have alot people pass me on my hawk going saintagustine Florida
I see the 40 tooth a 36 or 38 is better for top speed
Is this the efi version?
No
This bike would be perfect to run away from the po po on. I’d take em on an epic off-roading adventure
Lmao same
Nice! 👍 Are you still running the Loncin 250 6 speed?
Yes
@@JackofAllMasterofNone The piston, head and cams for the CRF230F are a direct swap on these engines. I installed a Wisco 11:1 piston and a Stage 1 HotCams on my X22R. I've also ported the head and advanced the timing with a 4 degree offset flywheel key. It's now pushing around 22 hp. The 4 degree offset key alone makes around a 4 mph increase in top speed. I'm waiting on a flywheel puller for my Hawk and will install one on it as well.
@@JerryHawk250 Sounds like I have a winter project now. Lol. Thanks!
@@JackofAllMasterofNone You'll be surprised how many after market performance parts from the CRF230F engine will work on these engines. My X22R 250 will hit 80 mph quick now compared to stock and it struggled to hit 70 mph. I'm about to pre-order another bike for a winter project. It should arrive around the end of august or beginning of September. These bikes are so cheap to mod. It gets addictive. lol
@@JerryHawk250 I'm wondering if those parts will also fit on my Rusi Classic 250 motorcycle?
It also has the Loncin 250...I live here in the Philippines and searching for parts can be a bit of a headache,as most speak Filipino or Bisaya.
What rpm do these run up to.
What kind of dirt bike you have?
Hawk 250
I cant wait to get my bike
same i’ve been thing about getting the hawk but the fuel infected one since i already have a truck and it would be fun to ride a bike
how has your been?
@@michaelc330 good how u been
Can the hawk wheelie thats the real question
It can
Is this all stock running 70
Not stock at all
Niceee
My god let off the throttle when you shift it’s a Chinese bike not a honda
Relax. It's a Chonda. It can handle it. 🤣
