How is the 300mm cylinder head able to fit in the engine of 250mm. Looking forward to try upgrade my 150 to 200 if it's possible
How is the 300mm cylinder head able to fit in the engine of 250mm. Looking forward to try upgrade my 150 to 200 if it's possible
As an aviation mechanic, the best way to find TDC is just hold your finger on the spark plug hole and rotate until you feel compression, by using an aluminum welding rod or coat hanger laying on top of the piston continue the rotation until the rod start by down, that TDC.
remember the gaps on piston rings have to be in a certain position as the ring gaps shouldnt line up with other ring gaps
Staggered !
I feel like I missed something here, this kit brings the engine to a 70mm bore and still 65 stroke leaving the displacement at 250.15cc. I'm not seeing how the cylinder wall would be thick enough to be bored out to an actually 300cc.
Correct
Enjoyed your video. I am a mechanic by trade, you did a pretty good job. (And I'm going to use some of your nomenclature with my co-workers because they work and they're unique (Pushrod Actuators = Rocker Arms for instance) -- good stuff, thank you for taking the time to show all the ins and out of swapping a piston and jug).
thank you friend
In my mind they are solid lifters, rocker arms are pushing on the valve, so pushrod actuator does work here but not for rocker arms
Don't do that. You will sound like you have no idea what you're talking about
Are you sure it's 250cc not 229cc, and that after the upgrade, it gets 300cc, not 250cc?
Top speed and performance review will be VERY soon. Waiting for the piston to break-in just a little. 😁👍
U just inspired me to do this to my bike I really appreciate you going through and giving us a tutorial much love ❤️
Awesome cant wait for your new video. I am getting a DLX 250 in a couple weeks. Do you see any issues I would have with putting the 300cc head on this DLX model with the stock EFI?
@@Panasonman I’m also curious.
I was gonna put one on my Hawk dxl as well. Not sure if the computer will be smart enough to compensate. For 56 bucks though it’s worth a shot
Was the piston pin 16 or 18mm? Thank you
Great video. I'm planning on getting a hawk and start playing with it. Can you please recommend the big bore kit you used, there's a lot of them at different price ranges and I'm not really sure which one to use...thank you so much, again great content
Worth mentioning when you installed the rocker box you did get the torque correct at 20ft lbs for 3 12mm bolts that hold it in place!! As well the head torque spec was also correct at 24/25ft lbs so again good job on the install video!!
When installing rings on any four stroke piston install the oil ring first then the two control rings that go above and below the oil ring. It's a lot easier that way because the oil ring has a lip on the top and bottom inside edge of it that sits behind the control rings. It's hard to explain but if you look closely at all three oil rings you immediately see what I'm talking about. Now let's see how many keyboard mechanics disagree with me on that lol. I'm just saying that method has ALWAYS worked for me and I've built my fair share in the last 30 years!
Can you add a google image link to what you're talking about? I'm new to these bikes and I want to do everything as correct as possible when I finally install the big bore kit on my 250cc. And thanks for your knowledge !
That’s correct!
@@roadgaper2570 if you need some help with your piston rings I just made a video covering the process so they get installed correctly!!
Yes !
Correct when installing ring you would first do the expander then the two scrapers then second ring then top ring
Nice video you made here I never had a chance to cover installation of the big bore so I’m happy someone took the time to do so!!
Please provide the manufacture of the bug bore kit, and/ or part number.
nice tutorial wasn't planing on watching it all but you've made it so good and so interesting to watch . you're a good sensei I must say . good job
thank u man it was alot of fun to make, still waiting for the cylinder to brake in a little before i do a top speed video
same
Thank You ! Purchased the jug and piston kit from Aliexpress. Coming late jan. My Hawk does 72mph. Shooting for 80+! made a wind fairing from a grinder visor. Works !
BTW, I am an automatic trans tech for 42 years.
So did you get it done how did it go
Did you check the gap on your rings? I want to watch an update of this guy to see what the 300cc can do compared to the factory 230
Wow, you didn't hold the flashlight much for your dad, huh? 2:24
I want to know your new top speed
Been debating going to the 300cc jug, and want to thank you for this video. Real help.
I purchased the 300 jug kit and it has 300 cast on the side. The piston pin hole may have a little offset. The valve reliefs were much smaller.
@@johnvolstad5870 Please come back and tell us how the jug upgrade went(long term). I have on my todo list a 141cc BBK upgrade for my Boom Vader bike, but after that might add a few cc's to my TBR7 motorcycle after that. Thanks!
@@MyMotorcycleBlog They have a daytona 190cc and a zongshen 212cc that fit your bike. Both 5 speeds.
@@johnvolstad5870 has it still gone good?
Was the piston pin 16 or 18mm? Thank you
I was your 600th subscriber 😫. Getting my hawk 250 pretty soon and I’m getting more and more excited finding such good videos like these! Keep up man I’ll be along for the ride
I always put a towel on engine crank case hole when messing with wrist pin clips so nothing can fall in crankcase, cause I never want split case to get something that fell in the crankcase hole out. Lol But awesome tutorial on rest.
Will it work for the TBR7?
So, I'm in California where HAWK is not allowed to be delivered from Amazon probably due to smog, but I'm starting to realize why Harley Davidson is so loved. HAWK was made to be tinkered with, and in doing so you get to learn EVERYTHING about motorcycles and I think that is a huge appeal. There is a relationship between you and your bike and this makes it stronger.
my dad has the same issue. he wants a hawk 250 to use as a farm bike but he cant purchase it because of the state he lives in, they literally wont deliver it. i think we're going to work something out where i just purchase one and ride it over to him
@@mototaco6603 Sick !!! Great idea.
You modify a hawk because you want to, you modify a Harley because you NEED to. Huge difference. Also the 1,000% markup on parts from HD are more than a little discouraging.
FYI GUYS. "D" is a manufacturer mark for the company "DONGYA", DY means top ring and D means bottom, other companies like ATG for example will have "ATG" as top ring and "A" as second ring. Orientation doesnt matter as long as you can tell which is which by rubbing your fingers against the ring like he said which is corect. So in this case D will be the Scraper ring NOT THE COMPRESSION RING like hes showing (according to the manufacturer) and also "IN" on the top of the piston DOES NOT MEAN Inside the frame or whatever he stated.. IT MEANS "INTAKE" VALVE! so the "IN" means the piston needs to be orientated facing the INTAKE valve side of this engine and not the EX or EXHAUST!. has nothing whatsoever to do with the inside of the bike frame. just my .02.
Will it work for the TBR7?
Thanks for the video, really appreciated. You make doing my bore upgrade a whole lot easier 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
any questions/updates lemme know dude
I really enjoyed seeing your work and can't wait to see your next video on the gains made .
Thanks, for sharing all that knowledge.
this tutorial is so simply stated, with exquisite videography,i think i can change mine out, what hp increase are you expecting? top end?
really only about a 3 horsepower difference
one of those sleeves is called a wrist pin 😁and should double check ring end gap too 😉 good vid bud 👍
Where can I buy this 300cc kit
Great video, but you have to learn your terminology. "Sleeve "- Wrist Pin. "Sleeve" - also be a dowel pin. "Crankshaft pulley" - connecting Rod. Lol.
I’d love to see a video on your carb tune and setup with this
If you’d stuff a clean rag into the case beneath the piston, you wouldn’t have to worry about dropping something into the crankcase!!!
You ever looked into swapping a 2 stroke motor into one of these china frame? Anybody you can point me towards? I been looking at a kx80 kdx80 cr80 cr125 2 stroke type of deal. The kdx 80 2 stroke looks like it will bolt right up with 15hp and great torque.
So I have the new Hawk 250, it has the counterbalanced engine (carb).... unfortunately this kit wouldn't be a option, anybody know the wrist pin size on the new motors? or a big bore kit that's sustainable for the new hawks.
Hello, is it possible to convert it to a real 300cc? If so, give me some information. I'm wondering because I have a fuel-injected version. What else should we convert?
Assuming the Magician 250 and Hawk 250 are basically the same motors, would you believe this would be the same process? I'm looking to order a Magician here soon just to have fun with and modify.
Great video! How is it running with the 300cc top end? Did you do any port and polishing to your head?
I will do some bowl blending and port matching. They say to polish the exhatst side but leave the intake side rough to help fuel atomization.
Can this mod be made to a Hawk DLX? Will the EFI still provide the proper air/fuel mixture?
i THINK you will need to provide a larger injector to satisfy the larger piston. i havent tested this so i dont want to state this as fact. however i've heard of some people installing a larger injector and some people not installing a larger injector and they yield close to the same results. this is certainly something that needs tested. and it almost makes me want to buy a DLX just to test it. fuel/air mixture is always an art. so i wish i could provide you with a solid answer for this but i cant. will it install? yes. will it run well? absolutely. will it get upto speed? yes. will it utilize the newer piston properly and prevent the bike from running lean? i do not know about that one sir
Makes sense. I think we all will be curious how much performance improvement you see and how much you need to tweak the carb.
i wana see you get the dlx and make it niiize
Really looking forward to the performance test on this. Thanks man!
check newest video
Hey man. Great video. Could you provide a link to the bore kit? I can only find a water cooled modle
Great video! I’m gonna be picking up one of these bikes shortly, but I’ll wait on doing this. How’s the bike doing today?
Haven't watched yet but man I've been waiting for this one, literally just now got the notification
The crank case is originally from a Honda cg125 that was already big bored to a little over 200cc so your installing a big big bore kit. Lol 125cc to 300cc big bore kit
Shouldn’t you run a aftermarket head of your going with a bigger cylinder for best performance?
Ordered the kit and the wrist pin is 18mm but my bike is a 16mm and the cylinder is bigger than the original so it doesn’t fit on the engine. Any suggestions? What year hawk did you rebuild?
Will not gain much, maybe 1-2 hp
You can gain a bit more cause you can go up in jet size also… and a smidge more torque.. so you might not have to down shift as much going up hills…
3-5 max gain in hp…
Mine is right past 20hp… I was thinking methanol ???
IN doesn't mean it points in, the engine is in the middle of the bike so any direction you point is out; IN means Intake Side of the head.
Great video .I have a hawk but can not figure out which 4 stroke model I have can you help
Did you have to machine the cylinder sleeve at all? and the piston pin was 18mm?
Stuff rags around the rod and over the crank case before pulling the piston pin clips just in case you do drop it, you don't want to pull the cases apart!
The link is for a 70mm piston, that makes it a 250 not a 300
How much engine life should I expect to lose on average when installing a BBK?
I bought the kit listed in the description but the pin didn't fit. Bike is 15mm and the lut came 18mm. Bike is now open and it didn't fit.
Can someone send me a link to the bore kit
Why does the thumbnail say 300 cc, if the big bore kit does not actually make it a true 300 cc?
Do they make appropriate-sized heads for the 300cc bore kit ?
We wanted to see it run! …..and a 0-60 run.
Aliexpress is Great ! I ordered my 300cc jug kit on Jan 5, it arrived on Jan 12 ! 1 week, WOW !
where you able to get it runnung with this kit any other mods needed i cant find a video no where with this kit acually running
how would it work, if i have v-twin 125xl honda varadero engine.
a tiny scewdriver works great for removal of piston pin circlips
I really learned something you have a gift of teaching .
WhAt. You call the sleeve is actually called a wrist pin on the piston.
Hey man you hawk guys have more info on these cg engines. What’s the difference between in the cg150+ is it just piston size? So technically I can just buy a 300cc BB kit and slap it on a 150?
the crankcase should be smaller aswell for the cg150. back tires and frame should be smaller aswell. i think the mod is only possible on the 229cc hawk engine. theres nothing stopping you from purchasing a full hawk engine and trying to appropriate it into your smaller frame. whether its worth your valuable time or not is entirely upto you
Did I go past the ring positions? Make sure all the ring openings are not lined up.
Listen mane I don’t know how to say thanks but ima just give you the gist details I have a Tbr7 250 basically I’m buying a cg250cc > to a Cg300cc basically the part you said we are replacing and everything else the seals and piston all that
AnywAys I want to say thank you because without this I wouldn’t be able to save my bike it’s eating oil and I believe the seals are fried from putting too many aftermarket mods (carb, cdi, ignition coil) and basically burnt my engine so I’m hoping this big bore kit will save my bike and then I should be set for the exhaust ! I know I’m probably talking to myself but if I can get in contact with you for any help I would more than appreciate it I’m just starting to get into this and if I replay this video long enough until I build the confidence to order it I should be able to know exactly what I’m doing 🫡🫶
So you're adding a big bore kit onto a motor that already is big bored? Sounds like a bad idea to me lol. These motors are already a 150 big bored to 230, now you going from 150 to 300. Hope it works out for you.
i see what you mean, has worked fine so far. alot of people pair it with an oil cooler to try to keep temperature down. but its true that these power increasing mods dont do alot for reliability. just more horsepower
Did you check Gap of each ring in the cylinder?
What parts are needed I want to do a bore install on mine but what is needed
So did it give you more power and more top end speed?
Can anyone tell me what kit is that and will it work on any of the same chines bikes
Will this work on the EFI?
Just got one question why did you check your motor off your bike and replacing the jug you don't have to time it when you have no timing chain
no reason other than making it easier to film
Is it a 167fmm engine? 🤔
Danm can you do this on my hawk 250 how much you want
What mm piston is that? Factory is 67mm.
Are the vibrations even worse then stock with the new bigger piston or did it stay about the same?! My bike at 60 will make my hands go numb after about 15 mins lol
So where can I get the oil gally o ring unfortunately I messed mine up by not putting gasket first please help
not to worry dude, you could honestly just suffice with a similar size o-ring from harbor freight. just make sure the size is correct
Nice! So it looks like it was $100 shipped looking at the link?
yes! jaysso on the hawk page that we're on turned the bottom skirt for me so it can fit into the crank case. he said it was necessary. or you could just trim the bottom inwardly so the piston rings slide in nicely
@@mototaco6603 that's what I was really wondering. So it's not a direct drop in, and needs machining? I haven't been into mine in a while to rationalize why that would be so. I trust what he says though
@@tashatorrid there is a slight gray area here to be fair. there are cases where people have ordered them from this website and used a ring compressor and say that the jug dropped in completely fine. there are cases where people purchased it and sent it to somebody to have the edges of the skirt machined down to make installation easier. which is what ive done, and i also did not used a ring compressor. so i spent the extra $100 on top of the money i spent on the jug and piston for the simple peace of mind. i don't want to make assumptions that a ring compressor will solve this problem so i wont; but its my opinion that you just have somebody (or yourself perhaps) shave down the inside of the skirt that marries to the crank case for ease of installation during assembly. unfortunately this is all the information i have for you since i have not held a jug that has not been machined. but i believe he puts it in a lathe and tapers the bottom of the sleeve (or skirt) so that when you slide it onto the piston it doesn't give you any trouble or the chance to bend or pinch a ring
@@mototaco6603 thank you for the detail. I'll probably order one up and see what's what. I'm usually able to make about anything work. I bet it feels a lot better now
you cannt get the right tork sitting on a towel
Awesome work👍🏻
Your cam operator is great she needs a raise 😆
I enjoyed that so much, excellent outstanding video you worded everything simple, add professionally, I definitely give you five stars rating for that ...
Please seal the Conrod with a towel so that things can't drop into the crankcase and save you from doing a total overhaul
Please tell us the brand of kit you received. I got the DVNOP brand with the coated flattop piston. Had Austin Auto Machine turn the sleeve down to 74mm. Put the pin in the piston and connecting rod. Slid the piston carefully over the rings. OMG, the piston top was a full 3mm below the deck of the cylinder jug !!!! put it together anyway and managed to get it to run. put compression gauge on 50PSI of compression.
Please, Moto Taco show a picture of a compression gauge psi reading with the gauge still hooked up. Please tell us the brand/manufacturer of the kit as you showed the parts on a styrofoam packing thing. Thank You ! P.S. Enjoy the Daytona 500. It is coming on soon on FOX.
hello, this engine which is a jongshen 250 cc.
is not delivered with an oil radiator.
I see that in the video your bike has an oil radiator...
will you ride it?...
or is it already like that?...
can you tell me where to connect the return and return of this oil radiator?...
THANKS
Bro, you didn't gap the rings? Pretty ballsy move considering the source of your parts. Appreciate the video, always enjoy watching horsepower mods on these Chinese bikes.
"in" is for intake by the way
So first thing nice job bud,so I just picked up this hawk bike darn thing runs good but the intake carb boot is bad ,so I got a couple questions, to install a new on do I have to take my tank and breather box or cam I just wezell the carb outta ther and install the new one . Thanks and keep up the info it's vary helpful..Thanks agin
Where is the Link for the kit??
I have a question all these Chondas that are being built so they all use the same motors? I wonder if the Bashan 250, Xpro250 and the XMoto 250 or the Apollo 250 are clones of the CRF 230?
Hey I have a 2021 Chonda Hawk 250cc aka 230cc I’m trying to put the 300 bore kit on it myself is there a link or website that you ordered yours from ? That would be great if so I’m interested in doing it to mine
Cheez and tacos!
Wrist pin, not a sleeve
Piston rings should be gauge in the cylinder before installing on piston. Most rings will have a dot or number that faces up. If you have a arrow on top of piston means arrow faces towards exhaust . If you have new gaskets, use them
I took off the odometer but I'm pretty sure I've got over 150 hours on my Hawk 250 real off-road riding and wheelies because I stripped it but lately it's been making a bunch of noise from the top end of the engine I bet I'm going to have to replace valves and The Jug including the piston
Great tutorial! I am curious what kind of gains you will get. I just might try the DLX out if you can gain 25% more power. I am also curious if you could buy a water cooled cg300 and fit it on a Hawk without too much custom work.
Would you have to do anything to the ECU on the DLX?
@@glefic yeah, definitely would need a new tune for more air and fuel. The stock injector might work, but if it couldn’t supply enough fuel, you would probably need to find a way to rig up a bigger one.
dose it work for efi
Little hammers
How is your piston rod going to like that big bore kit? As I understand that Rod is for a 67mm piston and the crank shaft is designed for a 67mm piston and the bearings too, so it will be fun to see how it goes for you in the future.
