Paddy's DIY - How to fit a child safety catch on a uPVC window
Hey lovely people! Why not buy me a cup of coffee or a beer to say thanks. Click on the THANKS button above 👍☕🍺
Thank you for uploading. My catches didn't come with fitting instructions so I was totally clueless!!!
Amazing video safety
Tks this upload was wondering how to fit!
Thanks, I used the packers to raise the catch as opposed to the stud which worked out well on my windows
Thanks. Very helpful.
Glad it helped :)
Amazing!! Worked very easily thanks to
Very good cheers
If you moved it closer to the hinge then it would be able to open further?
Thanks a lot ji.
These also work on inwards opening pvc windows to
Should the restrictor be installed with its pivot towards the window hinge (as you demonstrated when you showed how the restrictor can be fitted at the bottom of the window), or with its pivot away from the window hinge (as you demonstrated when you installed the restrictor at the top of the window)?
I'm going to record a new video to clarify. This is the way the manufacturer of this particular window fits them. Subscribe and you'll be notified when the updated video is posted
Thanks now I can open my window
Just followed the instructions worked out fab thank you your a ⭐
Glad it helped 👍
I just used a screw on the top and bottom works fine and does the job !
As in the window is screwed shut?
If your higher up I would say remove the sash, best with 2 people, either that or you run the risk of dropping the cordless or screws.
Would the same style of child safety catch work on top hung windows? Thanks
Yep. Just pick a side
I have this but a push version
Not all window profiles are the same, in fact I am a proficient diy er and these can be a right bastard to try to fix to certain profiles. Beware these are not a buy one for all restrictor. I have learned the hard way.
Haven't come across a pvc window where these restrictors don't work, and I'm fitting them years. The white packers will make up the difference in deeper profiles. If they're still not working after that the window is most likely misaligned
@@PaddysDiy no packers supplied with my restrictors. Just bare units with screws😳
You can buy them separately. If you search for hinge packers you'll find them. Most restrictors now come supplied with them
Realistically, how do you drill the screws into the top part of the window panel from the inside?
Jack Low Easy, you just knock a big hole in the wall above the window 👍🏻
Catflap good idea, now we need a video on that.
Unscrew the window then bring it inside for easy drilling.
Use an electric screwdriver. You can position it and the screw, then find an easy hand position to hold it while operating it. A manual screwdriver would be well awkward.
Work off a ladder outside.
how do install the catch if the window is already in place on the 2nd floor? Like how do you affix the stud on the top of the window?
Give me a bit of time and I'll make a video
I would also like to know this!
So is this a left hand or right hand window?
Because when buying them they're sided from the outside...
Cheers
Right handed
How do you fit this without falling out the window yourself?! Not the same as demo when the window is actually fitted!
Fair point. I shall record another video in a real world situation 👍
How to remove it?
Can't seem to find one that keeps in open position and prevents from closing on itself in heavy wind.
A bit of false security if it only holds the window from opening wider. Closing can also be harmful especially if your kid has his hands between the window and the frame.
Try giving the little side screw a tweak.
Fitted mine but now my window won't shut 😡😡😡
How did you shut it please tell me I'm now in the same boat
Like I posted, these restrictors are only suitable for certain profiles of windows. It seems there are thousands of manufacturers now making window frames, all different profiles. I have had the same experience as you guys, cannot get the window shut after fixing. I now have a frame full of holes where I have tried to resite the restrictors, to no avail, and they have ended up in the bin.
4:24 I bet I could open it with one hand
try fitting these bastard things when your 10 stories up 😠not as easy as your demo I can assure you
Andrew White use the wire ones
It helps to glue the stud to the sash before screwing it in.
We also live 9 up mate, but the windows are inwards opening
