- Normal UPVC windows can be opened too widely, which is dangerous for toddlers and young children; apparently there are 4000 children each year that are injured by falling from windows. This video shows how to make your own restrictor from a scrap multipoint door lock. It is critical that these types of restrictors are only installed on windows that would never be used as an exit in the event of a fire.
Thanks, i just removed my restrictors watching your video, it’s hot summer in here, i live in an apartment. I had no air flow, now i have some! Thanks!
over the last 6 months your videos have installed massive confidence in my diy skills, I'll give anything a go now thank you so much.
Nice clean and simple fix there!
Perfect timing & another excellent video once again. Thanks for all of your work & keep up the great work as you've dramatically improved my limited DIY skills! 😄👍🏻
Thanks for uploading video, I just watched out of interest and indirectly you've helped me solve the reason why I couldn't open my window fully. keep the videos going.
Great video mate. With his weather we been having recently this is ideal to keep the windows open at night without fears of someone getting in too.
Very good video - well presented
It's a pleasure to see somebody who knows how to use a file in the correct manner.... maybe a topic for a future video, UH?
+UH. Metal Work and Woodwork have been dropped from the school curriculum for at least 5 years to my knowledge... Health & Safety, the 'Nanny State' and the fear of litigation. Strange, methinks, because when we studied these subjects at school (early 70's) not one of us cut off our fingers, or suffered any injuries, not even when being taught how to use both wood turning and metal turning lathes, and then being left 'get on with it' unsupervised. I see apprentices from college who's skill-sets and dexterity in the handling of tools is, I would estimate, at least 3 years behind where I was as a apprentice. I honestly believe we are doing those young people who will succeed us in our trades and crafts a great dis-service. So much for progress!
+Ultimate Handyman. I was taught the correct way to use a file by my father when I was a kid, and then later in Metal Work class at school ( a subject, together with Woodwork, now regrettably dropped from the school curriculum) and it's a skill that's being lost. As you probably know, a good file, like a good rasp, doesn't come cheap, but in the wrong hands and used incorrectly can be rendered useless in a few strokes.
Do You think You could use a self tapping screw for mounting that stop? Would it hold as well as a pre-drilled hole screw?
my wife's younger sister had fallen out the window when younger not a far fall maybe 4feet
I need one making for the backdoor to stop unwanted guessed opening it haha just thought of that
Cool wee tip. Wish I had saved the one I replaced at my folks now.
Good idea, certainly better that buying the commercial version that probably costs a lot money for not much, really
Nice video Chez, one question: whjy do you always stop/spin yhour drill driver so much? I can understand that its easier in the beginning of drilling a hole but i don't really get it with driving screws.
I may need to do this...but for other reasons-To stop my cats and the neighbours cats from nudging my bedroom windows open from outside (i live in a bungalow),and getting in! This could be the solution ive been looking for!
Great video, did you do the same on the other side?
Does anyone know what the marker is called @
Do you have to do both sides or is one enough
