Hi Phil, I am told that a river, stream or lake in a painting must r be the same color as the sky. I struggle with this and often don't like the results - I can see that I could 'reflect' some of the color of the sky, but not match it - can you advise please. Thank you.

I was taught that light colored objects reflected are usually a little darker and dark colored objects reflected are usually a little lighter. They seem to come closer together in value. I've done my homework and found it to be true. See what you think. Might be why it's unsettling to you.

Hi Lolita, Reflections are always less in value and intensity of color, so a sky reflected in the water would be slightly darker and a bit more muted.
