CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Karl (Billy Bob Thornton) and Frank (Lucas Black) bond over their similarly tragic family histories.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Sling Blade marked the directorial debut of country singer turned actor Billy Bob Thornton, who also authored the script (expanding George Hickenlooper's acclaimed short Some Folks Call it a Sling Blade) and stars in the picture. Thornton plays Karl Childers, a mildly retarded man who spent most of his life in a mental institution. When Karl was a boy, he was severely mistreated by his abusive father (Robert Duvall). At age 12, Karl found his mother having intercourse with a man who tormented him endlessly; he snapped, flew into a homicidal rage, and killed both individuals by decapitating them. Years later, as a middle-aged man, Karl is deemed harmless to society and released from the mental institution where he resides. Karl says he has learned his lesson and adds, "I reckon I got no reason to kill no one." He returns to the town of his boyhood, where he's befriended by Frank (Lucas Black), the son of a widowed mother who sees the eccentric but open-hearted Karl as a kindred spirit. Karl also gets a job at a fix-it shop and resides in the backroom, until Frank's mother, Linda (Natalie Canerday), takes a liking to Karl and lets him stay with them. However, Karl also meets Doyle (Dwight Yoakam), Linda's boyfriend, a sadistically cruel, narrow-minded drunk who tosses casual abuse at Frank, treats Linda like dirt, and mocks Karl endlessly. The late John Ritter co-stars as Linda's friend Vaughan, a mild-mannered homosexual who works at the neighborhood dollar store. Musicians Col. Bruce Hampton and Vic Chesnutt are among Doyle's party guests.

You shouldn't have done that. He's just a boy, poor little feller....
nandoanalog "this came outta you,you just left it in the trash can?"
Wow he can really express himself ........Impressive
Cheapskate lol
I don't think it's for using i think it's just for lookin through
Hmmm mmm
This kid should have an Oscar .
He just a boy.
cuninglinguist Yer shouldn't 'er dun dat
Now he’s on CSI New Orleans
Hes in tokyo drift
Look up the movie flash
*"YE SHUNNA DUNG DAT, HIS JUST A BOI POOR LIL FELLER"* Eric Cartman
That's why am here 😂
The kid grew up and became the drift king in Japan.
yessir
He was also in the movie "Legion."
Then joined NCIS in New Orleans
And he appeared again in FF8
Poor little fellar
Probably the sweetest most endearing acting I’ve ever heard. And I agree with the boy.
Billy Bob was fantastic in this role. Deserved the Oscar for it!
He wrote and directed it, too.
Whoever that kid is, he nailed these lines !!
i agree
He's now an adult and stars in NCIS New Orleans
Tokyo Drift
El Padre con Verga Larga he was tryna get that 'ole (oil)
I agree Lucas Black has always been a talented actor. He still is a fine talented actor in NCIS New Orleans♥️🧢⚾ and other movies
Critical scene. "My Daddy'd kill Doyle if he knew he was hurting Momma." The Boy needs a Dad to step up and make him, and his Momma, safe.
Carl just received the necessary intel report, and with it, his marching orders. And those orders will be carried out. The Man feels a moral obligation. Failure would mean abject shame, and thus Not an option. Doyle's fate was sealed in this scene.
POWERFUL STUFF!
~TD, Boston
When my son was born, I told my wife he ain’t no bigger than squirrel using Carl’s accent! It made her mad 😆
I used to call my ex Linda while we were together, she knew better than to talk to me like that when I was hurtin, I told her don't make me knock the piss outta you.
Y'ought not talk that way, he's just a boy mmmmm
I just laughed so hard at this lol ty
ROTF
I did the same thing. Doctor laughed and asked if I would like some French Fried Potaters
Billy Bob should have won the Oscar for this role.
he made the whole movie
Omar Quintero billy
Omar Quintero look it up billy made the movie
How did he not i thought he did
Absolutely!!!
"Yew shouldn't-eh done dat yer jist a boy"
Andrew Vickers south park brought me here
MostDope513 Same here; though I've watched it once before South Park made a reference of it.
"Poor little feller"
Everyone focuses on Billy Bob in this movie, but that kid is a seriously talented actor.
"How come her to still bein' girlfriends and all with him if he's mean to 'er?"
--- that there is one profound question, Karl.....
Brilliant question
Had to listen to that three times to piece together what he said, but yes, a good question.
That's as common as mosquitos in the south. Women like Doyle for some reason, and he isn't even the worst.
OMG thats the guy from Tokyo Drift...lol.
You beat me here.. Tokyo Drift.. Lmao..
Vam TheAnomaly yes its Lucas Black
+Vam The Anomaly yea it is him lol.
+Vam The Anomaly Yep young Lucas black
That's avatarded
This was an amazing movie. Billy Bob Thornton did an amazing job in this movie.
This scene was funny and I don't mean like "being a queer" funny, I mean like "ha-ha" funny
Thanks for the clarification
***** he was copying the joke from the scene just now
Daniel Valdez Yeah...no shit, Dan.
He sure is nice though.
Lol, Clover Field’s avatar fits that response.
Here because of South Park
+Alexia Wynn Shouldn't of done that! He's just a boy Poor lil feller
Traffic Cones X-D ahahahahaah
me
same
A Wynn poor lil feller
It's too bad that Sling Blade killed that guy before he could impart some of his knowledge of fixing small engines to that little boy. I bet that skill would have really given him an advantage when he entered the workforce.
It ain't got no gas in it
Small engine repair can be mastered with a book and a summer full of weekends. Whether or not the boy has a gift for it is far more important.
@@negativeindustrial Sounds like you know a fair bit about small engines!
That's funny...both ways.
Well, he did leave him with his books. I don't know if there were any books on small engines, but I remember he said there was a book on carpentry...which is a great skill to learn. So in a way he did leave him with a bunch of knowledge in the books he always carried around.
I find it awesome that a twelve year old kid named Lucas black can hold his own against the likes of Billy Bob Thornton, Dwight yoakam, John Ritter, Robert Duvall, and J. T. Walsh in a movie as awesome as sling blade.
The characters in the movie make the movie gripping. The movie remarkable. The ending I love the ending. Carl give up his life to help the family. The boy and his mom.
"there's plenty of time for the other". Great line.
Beautiful movie.
We need more artful movies like this nowadays.
This movie is too brilliant. It's unfortunate Billy Bob hasn't written/directed anything on nearly the same level since.
Right. All this good work, and then years later we get a terrible Bad News Bears remake, and Bad Santa 🤦🏼♂️
@@andrewhatcher2702 Astronaut Farmer is my favorite film
BAD SANTA was a damn good movie! But he didn't write or direct. A lot of people liked THE GIFT and ALL THE PRETTY HORSES.@@andrewhatcher2702
You shouldn't have done that, he's just a boy. 😂 Poor little feller.
I like how Karl tries to steer this kid right.
That boy is talent. He grew up and beat drift king in a duel. Proud of that boy
And he was one hell of a quarterback on Friday Nights when the lights are on
"he's funny not funny ha,ha"
"You shouldn't have done that. He's just a boy!" lol Cartmen
*Cartman
I love how the little boy even though some of his words were "offensive" were said with good intent by the young actor.
He's just bein' honest
I didn't hear anything offensive
Many dont know this but Karl and Frank are friends and actors in this movie, but also 8 years later, in 2004, they would be actors on the movie Friday Night Lights, with tThorton as Coach Gary Gaines and Frank (Lucas black) as Mike Winchell. What an epic actor combo.
Love this kid! he played Jeep in Legion. Loved that movie, too! ❤
Yes! Can't forget Sean from Tokyo Drift!
Also Mike Winchell in Friday Night Lights. He was great in that one and Billy Bob played his Coach.
The acting in this movie...is just unparalleled.
The boy’s got some surprisingly progressive views, given his upbringing.
Reckon ya might end up one of them old cucks raising some other feller's childrens that way.
Mmhmm.
the boy also played kruger in Jarhead if anyone ever saw the movie
+Jake Rose
THANK YOU!!!
I could figure out where I knew him from!
love these two for sure .....so heart breaking on both parts ..
BFF
This part makes me break down every time. I love Karl to death.
"yous just a boy" may be simple but that line is one of my favorites because of how much Karl wants Frank to keep his innocence
God damn this made me cry and laugh all in 2 minutes what a great movie
I watched Tokyo Drift so many times before I realized he was just a boy.
It’s always struck me how much the boy understood without even having the words to express it. They won’t make a movie like this nowadays, man.
This is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time.
Best story ever. Love, Billy
This is the greatest film of all time.
When I first saw Lucas Black on NCIS NOLA, I saw him make almost the exact expression he has here at 0:17 and I thought instantly of the kid here in this role. I didn’t know he was the same actor all grown up until I checked IMDb, lol. Love this movie.
Every character on this movie deserved an Oscar.
how the hell was Lucas Black 13 or 14 when this was filmed, he looks like he was 8.
That’s ironic considering when he starred in Tokyo Drift he was 26 but he looked 35
@@flubbajubb4958 DID NOT. someone sounds salty
@@maggotbitch it’s just facts. It’s not helped by the fact that his TD character was supposed to be 17
@@flubbajubb4958 true true.
Terrific acting by the boy.
thinking about the deceased father makes me a bit depressed, its really sad when someone thinks of themself as inadequate even though all the people they matter to are perfectly happy with what they provide, I can say from experience it's sad from both sides.
It's not about the money or the bills, its not about the size of the house or the age of the car, its not about what luxuries and privileges can be afforded, the only thing that matters is that they're around.
Don't worry too hard, in a few billion years the sun will have exploded and burned away most everything out to the asteroid belt and the only thing that will matter is that we loved one another.
Two great actors
Great movie
This was the saddest scene in the entire film. An awful lot to have to carry around for such a young boy.
Great ending to a great movie
Didn't know the drift king played in this movie :D
What a transformation.
Спасибо
Great acting by the boy.....
Love.. that movie! Congrats BBT🤝👏👏👏👏👏
Excellent movie.
This is one of the best acting jobs I have ever seen Billy bob doing sling blade (Carl) and heath ledger doing joker
Cant make this scene today😂
He also plays in "U Turn".
He plays on NCIS New Orleans now,
Ole Man im ded
Fun fact: This boy moved to New Orleans when he growed up. Became a police officer with NOPD and eventually became an agent for NCIS.
Billy Bob Thornton is a genius.
is it weird that even though i have never seen this movie in my life, that i instantly recognized Lucas Black even though hes around 10 years old here. it probably helped that i've seen Tokyo drift over 10 times
"You oughht not talk like dat ya jeeest a boy"
He's so innocent
South park brought me here.
Scruffy The Janitor brought me here.
do u know what episode???
It was season 5 episode 8 :o
Nova lol me too buddy. time for me to post a troll of a message, hopefully it will wind some ppl up lol
Oh no no the furries got blitz
Saw the kid and thought, that looks a lot like Lucas Black. Well damn, it is. Recognized him immediately.
Carl should sing the chorus from the Leo Sayers/Roger Daltry hit "Giving it all away", where it goes "he was just a boy uh huh giving it all away"
You shouldn't of done that, he's just a boy
Thank you
Clover Field Eric Cartman 😁
🖕🖕🖕fuck you
@@chrisvialpando2499 ?
That was the coolest kid.
EVERYBODY loves Karl...Love this !
Cartman brought me here
Him and Billy bob starred in Friday night lights together too. Another good movie
I like the way he talks !,hmmm mmmmmmmm French fries with MUSTARD!
If only we could retain the childhood innocence Frank demonstrates, and judge people based on how they treat others, rather than learned prejudices, fear and ignorance.
The world would be a vastly better place.
"That's thaton' on Christmas i's tellin' ye' bout"..
....Are you ready for this, Mike?
kept replaying the you're just a boy part to my little cousin, lmao
This is Bork laser lol
That kid just made every millennial's head explode... told the truth.
I think sling blade 2 will be a box office success, wish they would make it happen.
Ever since I saw this movie early 2000s I haven't been able to stop intimating Karl.
Bork laser
Cant believe this kid grew up to be tokyo's finest drifter! Also first guy to run an RB swap in a mustang 😎
He just a bit you shouldn’t of done that poor little fellar- Eric Cartman the dawg
this is like homer
poetry
it's told jus lik dat
This whole movie had to come from experience. It's too real to just get thought up. I've been in that kids shoes. Doyle is exactly like a guy that wants to be with the mother, but despises the kid. Very common.
He wasn’t from deep in Mississippi, he was from Independence which is way up there between Southaven and Senatobia. My hometown was actually deeper & I do remember my best friends son talked just like the kid in Sling Blade.😝
Ayy Boy I Reckon It's Ya Boy Hmm hmm
He went from Family problems to drifting around Tokyo
I've never seen this movie before or knew anything about it but I knew right away that kid was Lucas Black.
That Lil boy grew up so purtea 🖤
Karl sounds like everyone on CB Radio Channel 6
That kids the quarterback from friday night lights. And ironically the coach from friday night lights lol
Something tells me that little feller will be the Drift King of Tokyo some day
I was surprised to find out that Frank was played by the same actor who played as Sean in fast and the furious Tokyo drift
He reminds me of the guy that plays in legion
teeny boppers can relate to south park. good film for adults. enjoyed it
