LOVED watching Buggy get so excited about digging potatos and exclaiming loudly, "Look at how big this one is!" She is a real treasure and one of the most fortunate little girls on the planet !!!! I loved your favorite shovel and the story behind it. How you found it buried in piles of garbage and then refurbished it and put on a new handle. so cool. All those wonderful skills you brought with you to the homestead... they come in real handy eh? Great to see you enjoying the syythe too ~ it seems to be meditative for you as well as a cardio workout. It's all so good. Your family is wonderful. Thank you for sharing with us.
It's just not right how big Buggy is getting. She's just so adorable, too! The way she shadows you both is so precious. She's having a great childhood.
Hi from Australia. I love watching all your videos and get excited when i see your new videos up. And the best thing i like about you both as parents is that you dont shove the camera in your kids faces like others do. You both have so much respect for your children.
How adorable.....your son..."your digging potatoes without me?" I have to agree with him.....digging potatoes is such fun. It's like christmas....you don't know what you are going to find.
1. A volunteer is as good as 10 pressed men (or zinnias) 2. There are some things you can always rely on, your favourite shovel is one of them 3. Don’t go digging up potatoes without telling the whole family! Have a great weekend.
I love how your sweet kitty keeps popping up in the garden videos. 🐈 Reminds me of playing " Where's Figaro" up at Lumnah Acres. Every Homestead NEEDS a Kitty Overseer to keep things running smoothly.
Most kids get upset because they can’t have their own phone, munchie…don’t dig for potatoes without him! You’re growing much more than vegetables, you’re growing healthy strong kiddos.
My "secret" ingredient for chicken noodles soup is a generous pinch of nutmeg. It gives an amazing flavor that would never be identified as nutmeg, but heightens the flavor of this simple soup.
Thank you for your videos, they are always so encouraging and such a blessing. My dad passed away about two-and-a-half years ago and he was very big on gardening and I think that's where we (my sisters and all my nieces and I) got the garden bug from LOL. I love using the old tools my dad had....and he has an old shovel ( from the Many garden tools in the shed) and an old hoe and just last month I just noticed the price tag! I've used the shovel so many times and never noticed it... But There's a price tag still on this shovel! I was blown away when I saw the price tag of $6.99... Can you believe that? You can't even get a shovel nowadays in my area. I think, don't quote me on it, but here in this part of Texas I cannot find one for less than $20 or $30 and those are for the cheap ones!
You know the many things I love about your channel is that you live the life. You work hard together as a family. But most importantly you don't do politics.. the channel is about family, farming and gardening.. and of course some amazing cooking... Thank you for that...
It's elderberry picking season here. Cut heads, put them in the freezer in sacrificial pillow case. The next day bash the pillow case on the floor, the berries fall off, and you can easily separate the stems from the berries. Then cook the berries down to make cough elixir, cordial, jelly, or candy! Mmmmm! my favorite anti-virus supplement. Love the donut dress, Buggy!😃😃🤣🤣
I have noticed that year by year your soil is improving, with the addition of compost, mulch and amendments, surely the amendments are building up in the soil, as your plants deplete very little of them. All in all it is a job well done, congratulations.
When i grew up in Ft.wayne, there was a bar I'd goto and play pool. The owners were Macedonians. They made pickled cabbage which was tasty, and a Macedonian Sausage and the sausage had leeks in it. It was delicious as well.
a tip if i learnt from an old time crofter in South Uist is prepare and build windbreaks, and you may have more luck with animals as most of the hebrides you can only farm rocks....
You have to be one hardy soul. That is some barren & rough land. BUT BEAUTIFUL! Like the idea of the wind breaks to keep your plants & soil from the winds. Good Luck & God Bless.❤
Thanks guys, been doing it for two years now. It's not easy and I don't think we will be here forever but it's a great place to learn, can only go up from here!
Ben, I realize this question has nothing to do with this video ,but would ask Meg to make you another fried egg sandwich in greater detail. Since I seen her do one , I have tried to duplicate it with no success. Especially the folding part in the pan (slow motion works for me). Love all that you kids do. Thanks for great family entertainment.
Back when I was in 5th grade my folks worked on a sheep ranch here in Idaho. Mom was the crew cook for a bunch of Basque men. They kept asking her for Leaky Soup. Moms hair dresser was a Basque lady in town, so she solved the mystery of Leaky Soup.
Meg has great skin, now I know why...all the steam from cooking!! Here in Idaho potatoes are planted in early April then harvested in Mid September: you got some large taters for the short time you had them planted. Can't wait to see how the rest of the harvest turned out.
I'm so glad Brett could help you redo the beds Ben. It's nice that one of the beds was fluffy enough you could just use the broad fork on it. Good job amending the soils of both of the beds. Those leeks looked good too. Wow, making barbeque sauce. Chicken soup for the sick? Nice job planting! I bet your dad is glad he helped you plant those spuds! Nice haul! Thanks for this video Hollar family. I hope everyone feels better soon!
Thaxnx to Ben's Dad for helping to plant these potatoes. Looks like you did a go job. Since this batch had the biggest potato that has been grown on this property.
So happy you were able to harvested more russet potatoes! Now you know it could be worth it to plant some in later May. It might not work every time but when it does it's great!
I think your son was a little put out with you digging the potatoes without him. Those potatoes are huge. What a tremendous batch from that little space. Thanks for sharing. Y'all have a Blessed day and I hope all who are feeling under the weather, perk up tomorrow after that delicious chicken soup.
I started suddenly with a sore throat so I treated it with a 1/2 t. of salt mixed in 1 t. Of honey and let it melt in my mouth…relieved the sore throat. Started a cough and used mullein tincture. ( use tea for children) and it left in two days…..don’t forget elderberry syrup…… It’d be nice if Buggie had a little friend to play dolls with……my four girls had each other but I had over one friend their own age often…playing house was their favorite fun thing to do……they’d dress like Little House on the Prairie and be homesteaders…lol
Have you ever tried to sneak out on Bug without her knowing? I TRIED with my kids but I would hear them slam the door and rumble off the porch to come find me! They left Dad behind! haha
New subscriber from the UK, I live on my own, I'm a widow. I planted my Charlotte potatoes in 2 large pots in May. I dug one up in late August and cleaned off the stems of the other pot and covered it with black plastic for another 4 weeks. The difference in the size was astounding, the crop left for another month was double. So from now on, I will leave my spuds in the ground for a month after the stems are removed.
I love seeing Lilliana in the garden with you. She's learning so much and already knows how to plant a garden better than many adults. She's a smart little girl and she's absorbing so much knowledge from you and the boys. She's going to grow up to be a strong and extremely capable woman.
hay u 2 i have been with u guys from the beginning . i am 80 this coming 9/20 and i so love your channel. the atmosphere provided for the family, especially the little girl is a bit heavenly. with respect Blair. San diego.
Ben, turn your wagon around and follow it as you go down hill. I am loving all the gardening videos. It’s just the begging of our “regular” planting season down here in Central Florida.
It didn't take long for Buggy to forget about bedtime after she heard 'dig potatoes', did it? I can imagine her showing these videos to HER kids, and being so tankful for how she was raised.
I always had a garden when my children were small, and my daughter turned 34 today, and sent me photos of her first cherry tomatoes which split from the rain we got from the "hurricane" here in SoCal. She was excited that I put basil in her bouquet of sunflowers which included one BIG BIRD relative from Sunflower Steve's seeds. She's gardening for the first time since childhood, and it warms my heart to have her share it with me. I think at least a couple of your children will not wait so long into adulthood to have a garden.
I love wooden handle garden tools. I hate that fiberglass stuff. I actually just buy handle sticks and replaced the handles (wood)…plus I keep my tools in a shed or garage
I planted my first potato crop in late March. When I dug up my garlic in early July, I planed potatoes again. And in late July, I planted more potatoes. I didn’t expect too much from the last two plantings, but when I dug up the potatoes that I put in in early July, WOW!. Impressive haul. I am now going to wait until the end of September/beginning of October for that last batch. I am just thrilled. I did this in zone 7B.
Nice harvest. Looking forward for tomorrow’s upload. Fun fact. If you plant a potato upside down, it will still find its way up. Ask me how i know! 🤣 Mine just popped yesterday a thick stiff plant, and thought most will say it’s too late now, in my area is warm and humid until end of October and was planted almost a month ago. So I’ll have small batch of harvest just for the kicks. I am thinking even letting it go through mid winter or even through winter until my first frost in January hits.😅
In Norway we always plant potatoes in June . I’d course it’s colder here, but we cant plant any sooner because the ground have to thaw and heat up first ..
Looking forward to watching you put your garden beds to rest. Have you ever thought of using tillage radish or dicon raddish as a over winter cover crop in the worse beds. Or rye / oats as a overwinter crop?
Do you remember why those leeks came back? BECAUSE BUGGY YELLED AT THEM TO “GROW! GROW! GROW!”
LOVED watching Buggy get so excited about digging potatos and exclaiming loudly, "Look at how big this one is!" She is a real treasure and one of the most fortunate little girls on the planet !!!! 😊😊
Meg is just so knowledgeable about so many things.
Buggy is a baby doll. She is so cute. And she's a good helper.
Princess will be the last to leave the homestead. She loves all the activities .
Hi from Australia. I love watching all your videos and get excited when i see your new videos up. And the best thing i like about you both as parents is that you dont shove the camera in your kids faces like others do. You both have so much respect for your children.
You got busted! So great the kids want to be a part of harvest. Love your sweet family.
How adorable.....your son..."your digging potatoes without me?" I have to agree with him.....digging potatoes is such fun. It's like christmas....you don't know what you are going to find.

Buggy is so adorable.
Your young men are also incredible an talented.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful family with us 👏🙏💐
Got a lot accomplished inspite of the heat. Had to laugh at the excitement caused by the thought of digging up potatoes.
closer to frost time is to put a rope from one cattle panel to the next and place plastic as a extended greenhouse on most of the garden .
I love how your sweet kitty keeps popping up in the garden videos. 🐈 Reminds me of playing " Where's Figaro" up at Lumnah Acres. Every Homestead NEEDS a Kitty Overseer to keep things running smoothly.
BUSTED!!! I was wondering where he was. He loves digging potatoes. And those were beautiful. ❤
Most kids get upset because they can’t have their own phone, munchie…don’t dig for potatoes without him! You’re growing much more than vegetables, you’re growing healthy strong kiddos.
meg is awesome! lucky man!
Buggy is such a good helper.

Oh man Corben I feel your pain. ❤
My "secret" ingredient for chicken noodles soup is a generous pinch of nutmeg. It gives an amazing flavor that would never be identified as nutmeg, but heightens the flavor of this simple soup.

I remember how red that soil was when you first started. You have come a long way.

Politics is a four letter word. :P shame on you. :P
Summer’s almost done & now to start a new planting. Potatoes look really good 👍
Hope the 2older boys get better soon.

Sounds like an interesting trick for elderberries. I might just have to try it!
❤❤❤
Good evening!
I hope everyone feels better soon.

Hi Hollar Family 🙋🏻 I love the garden videos. Your soil building techniques are really paying off. Take care and God Bless. 🤗♥️
I have noticed that year by year your soil is improving, with the addition of compost, mulch and amendments, surely the amendments are building up in the soil, as your plants deplete very little of them. All in all it is a job well done, congratulations.
It's not that your daughter can't walk down the hill, but it's so much more fun to ride!
Omg buggies is precious, all your family are, bye buggid❤
HOW DARE YOU HARVEST POTATOES WITHOUT ME!
When i grew up in Ft.wayne, there was a bar I'd goto and play pool. The owners were Macedonians. They made pickled cabbage which was tasty, and a Macedonian Sausage and the sausage had leeks in it. It was delicious as well.

Fall crops? Heh, we're still over 100. But only for the next 4 days! I'm ridiculously excited for it to be in the 90s and high 80s.

Crisp in the morning, sweaty by lunch.
I will never tire of that sweet little "Bye" at the end🤩 And I learned that I should just try to plant _____ despite the "rules"... THANK YOU ❤
Buggy will never be out done. Too cute!!!

O many emotions on his face and in his body language. I hope you got him up the next day 17:30 like xmas morning and let him unwrap those taters. ❤
Wonderful family members

Yes they do
Its awesome that you had a good crop of potatoes
Oh! Your daughters sweet voice! She's so precious! Your boys are all pretty awesome too! Can't wait to see the full potato harvest video! Thank you!

Good job
Outdoor sinks are a game changer. All of the dirt water can go to the garden.
Leek and potato soup. Yay!
Look at Ben on the weedeater looks like a pro lol
I love wooden handle garden tools. I hate that fiberglass stuff. I actually just buy handle sticks and replaced the handles (wood)…plus I keep my tools in a shed or garage
You can cook the greens from sweet potatoes that are too late to make tubers. Really good , like spinach.
A gardening calendar works great to remind me when to harvest. Otherwise, I would forget to check!
That cat loves you so much!!!
I planted my first potato crop in late March. When I dug up my garlic in early July, I planed potatoes again. And in late July, I planted more potatoes. I want some fried okra and potatoes! Lol
I don't have a favorite tool but I have a favorite fork.
I love your videos ❤❤❤
Oh my gosh, you have such beautiful kids on the inside and the outside you are lucky parents and they are lucky children❤❤❤
She is so cute!! She's a hard little worker. lol
Nice harvest. Looking forward for tomorrow’s upload.

Such a cute laugh, The Donut Dress.
Gosh, your gardens are so lush and gorgeous!

Praying for healing for your family ❤
Good cool nights ahead. 🕊️
I live in the Central Valley CA and it’s actually not walking into an oven hot right now. Only like 90’s lol
