  • Why is Pump Testing a Well Worth the Money? Performing a pumping test on a water well is a crucial step is determining actual flow rate the well is producing. This video shows us flow testing a 600 foot deep water well that is producing over 100 gallons per minute, using a 15 HP motor utilizing a 115 gpm submersible pump end. Stay tuned to the end to hear the results of the flow test compared to when the well was drilled.

could i run this test but hooking up the pump to a breaker?

100gpm is good! I’m sure they need all that flow to water everything

My well runs for about 10 minutes and it's dry. Then after an hour or so you can run another 10 minutes

Are you wired directly into the generator? No motor protection! That’s crazy! No flow meter? No throttling valve! Must be your 1st pumping test!

You are correct, wired straight into the generator that has built in protection into it to keep it from single phasing or will kick it out on overcurrent protection (parameters that I programmed into the generator before startup). You missed the throttling valve, after 4 hours of pumping open discharge with a water level of 113 feet and a pump set 400 feet, no throttling was necessary so I removed it. The well never pulled down below 113 feet. No it's not our first pump test, and the motor in the well was 15 years old that we saved after a customer elected to change it out, not a brand new motor. We aren't that stupid!
