    I love how you emphasize making the bond, trust, basic training, obedience, then and only then are you bringing in the problems into the equation and or punishment only once the trust and clear communication is established. It’s so humane and caring. I have a human communications degree and studied a lot of psychology- and clear communication is so hard for( human to humans) and more so (human to dog).
    I’m trying to become a dog trainer and these videos are so incredibly helpful. I’ve trained many dogs of my own and am definitely a student for life. That’s a great mindset. Cheers brother.

    Thank you Larry for all your no BS content! I am 60+ and have a 2 year old Catahoula/pit mix. Dominate dog and a fear biter (she was a rescue from a drug house). Thanks to your UA-cam channel I've been able to train my girl with e-collar because of your AWESOME how to video with your precious "D.O.G."/ Sophia!!
    I have learned so much from you Larry! We now have an APBT, 1 year and we are having the most rewarding experience EVER!!!
    I was even confident enough to enter our puppy in a UKC show when he was 10 months and took best in show puppy ,also best in show male! THANK YOU LARRY!
    God bless your retirement 🙏.
    Love to you and your family❤🐾

    Thank u sir! You’re the one who made me who I am! I’m trying to be like u when u said “I am not harsh but deliberate”.. everything u said up until now I can see it and it does show on all of your training vid.. u don’t correct too harsh too soon but u correct when it’s necessary and needs to correct it for the better! There is a difference being harsh vs being deliberate I love that comparison!

    It's always concerning to me when I hear dog trainers advise future clients when they ask what we should do to prepare our pet dogs for future training, they respond with... to just socialize the dog and not to worry so much about obedience because they will teach all that. I actually heard this during one of off leash k9 training podcast, along with other trainers. I'm not a trainer, just a dog mom trying to be a good mom, so I'm so confused why the don't advise us to work on simple obedience. One of my GSD knew every obedience command prior to their 14 day board thanks to YOU and Robert Cabrals training videos.
    This has sincerely been the most honest advise for us pet owners. We need more honest (no hold backs) advise such as this one! Great video

      @KATHERINE MAXWELL although their training style is very different, I just love their no BS training style. I found Robert first then Larry. I've learned so much from both of them, I just like all the constant and consistent content Robert has which makes it much easier to follow. I really wish Larry would create a members only online training with much more indepth content. I think he holds back some of his knowledge.

      A friend of mine was looking into sheltering working dogs for a year until their training began, and they didn't want him to teach the dogs anything to not cloud their experience. If you teach a command wrong, it takes a long time and extra effort to retrain that command. I think they don't want that hassle.

    I run a doghotell on our farm with room for 12 dogs. Our house is in the middle of the property and everything is fenced in so the dogs can hang out with us and feel as close to home as possible. We are with them 24/7 and take them to beautiful places for walks and explore. The last thing we do before we go to bed is taking out the dogs. We follow the owners scheduals with feeding and excersise as much as we can. Dogs have been my passion all my life. Learning something new everyday and never get bored.Thank you so much for what you do. loved your video and i feel the same way about training and learning from the community. After a 7 day stay we clean the dog for free if owners request it🤷‍♀️ Personally i think twice a year is enough since they need the fats in their skin🐶

    I've done the mark and reward with a reactive (excited not aggressive) dog and it's amazing. She sees a dog now and looks up tail waging "where's my treat".
    Sadly the owner is proving harder to train. Never paying attention and missing the moment. When they do treat it's at the wrong time. I know there is a lot of trauma, codependancy, and neurotic energy, affecting their relationship to their dogs so it's going to be tough to change them but we've made some progress.

    If you use a negative marker No etc and it is followed up with punishment in the way of stim or pinch collar pressure for non compliance it will give your verbal negative marker power for the future. For serious deeds counter surfing or something you want extinguished, then agree go straight to punishment according to the severity of the crime. As always many variables to consider. Dogs temperament, age etc.

    I have an Anatolian shepherd. Pay attention to her prior to the aggression watch her communicating to the other dog. She’s subtle but clear and meaningful. They own the territory they’ve been at more than a few times and sees the other dogs as guests and they warn other dogs to behave. They warn very politely and then when that dog doesn’t listen she will lay them to the ground. With mine i have to handle the behavior before she does. Sometimes I miss it and sometimes I get it. When i get it my Anatolian looks at me saying” you got it mom, good job.”

    • @trumplostlol3007
      @trumplostlol3007 3 роки тому

      All shepherds are dominant, hyperactive, hypersensitive, timid, .. with severe fear aggression so that they can herd even cattle. They are bred to bite and bite to kill even cattle if they do not submit. They will not back down when in fear. They are very mean to all other animals, including the owner's other family members. They are also very opportunistic. My newly adopted 2 year old Aussie kept sniffing the ear of my older dog and kept putting her head on my older's neck. They got into 2 fights in my presence. Enough is enough. Now I will obvious her behavior all the time. I will be very firm if her misbehavior shows up again. Watch some cattle dog videos on youtube and you will be able to understand your dog better. Shepherds are NOT pets. They are working dogs that need to be trained very early in their lives. Cowboys do not socialize them. They only need them to work, then cage them after they are done.

    I like what you are teaching but you really had me sold when you mentioned that "positive" trainers lie to other people. THAT is one of the BIGGEST reasons why I decided to become a trainer as well. And I offer HONESTY to my clients. Truth be told, I feel some dogs just may not be able to learn certain things and I tell my clients NO training is a guarantee as instincts can always trump training no matter how good it is. And punishment can be just a look to some dogs. When I give my dog the "evil eye" she knows she is being (gently) disciplined for doing something she shouldnt have. Punishment doesnt have to be harsh, it can be just a phrase too. Tell my dog "bad dog" and she will get very sad knowing she is being disciplined.
    Here's another thing: I never YELL at my dog when she has done something wrong. I save that yell for emergencies and have taught her that the loud tone of voice means run to me as fast as possible and have a party!

    Your videos are helping me a great deal. I listen to them constantly, lol (even in the shower)! They're helping me a lot as I train one of my two huskies. I'm focusing on the easier dog first as he's a fast learner and pretty light-hearted while the other is more highstrung and doesn't learn quite as quickly. I can see I'm making plenty of mistakes, but I'm learning from them and fortunately have a very clever and resilient little guy. It's wonderful to take him offleash through the woods with more backup to our commands (when they were puppies we used only positive reinforcement, but we later encountered issues when it came to listening reliably). I'm applying all of your advice as best as I can and look forward to having two very well-trained huskies when all is said and done. :] In one of your videos you said "I'm totally addicted to dog training". I can see why! I love it. It's somewhat different from bird training, but it's great fun.

    I have been attacked multiple times by my Pyrenees x Rott. Got him when he was 8 months, third owner, not told about his aggression. Not aggressive to other dogs but intermittently aggressive to me! Last time I ended up in hospital I swore to put him down, but then when I got home I couldn't do it. He is now on a chain. Can this situation be fixed?

    for the lady that has the dog with agression towards smaller dogs, i had the same issues with my older rottie lab, she grew up with a german hunting terrier and that dog really got to her to the point that after she grew up she would hunt anything smaller than her. Now i will preface this, i do not presume to know more than mr Krohn,he is a legend and extra established trainer, i been at this only 10 years. The way i reduced that behavior to a minimum was with exposure, i have a bunch of small dogs in the neighbourhood among them the same kind of terrier that terrorized her as a pup that has an even worse attitude than that other one. I would simply take her on walks where we had to pass alot of these dogs including that terrier, if she reacted the dogs she got punished (with a no, leash pull), then she had to sit and down and lastly get into heeling position and when she did that we went on if she did not react, if she reacted again, no leash snap so she switches focus on me sit down heel. If she did not react, she got rewarded. Now that mostly solved the problem, not entirely tho and there are certain dogs she really doesnt like but in general, if we go to the city and walk down the street she will ignore them now.

    I love listening to these while I’m doing chores around my house. I have a 7 month male GSD and I am so thankful for these. He is trained but we still run into issues. I have issues primarily about being scared of over correcting and messing my dog up but I have also done the work in training him. I like how you say you know this now it’s time to do it. Clarity is kind and being a nag does no dog any good. Thank you for your banter!

    I have a young husky. She is very smart and knows when she has the e-collar on. When we do recall in a controlled environment, the vibrate of the EZ educator works for her I believe.
    If we were to go out and I were to switch to the higher level stim setting, am I confusing her?
    Also, what is your best advice for placing the collar prongs right every or most times with fur like husky fur? (That's why I have stayed with the vibrate since it works for her and I'm not consistent with my proper placement of the prongs through her fur.

    • @l26wang
      @l26wang 4 роки тому +1

      You can get tips specifically for long fur. There is now also winged tips for normal and long hair, which give more consistent contact. Larry only uses winged tips now I believe. Also brush out the hair every time before putting on the ecollar. This is what I’ve gathered from watching Larry’s videos.
      It would be confusing to train with vibrate but use stim when outside.
      I don’t use vibrate. My dog finds it more intrusive than shock. Instead I use the Pavlovian beep.

    So moral of the story seems to be , if you have behaviour problems, before punishment you should go back to basic obedience so that the dog understands what he is supposed to do and not do them you can reprimand?

  • @watcher_1960
    @watcher_1960 3 роки тому

    the type of punishment you're referring to must be followed up by reinforcement, you can't make a correction once and expect the animal to adhere forever, they will get lax as fast as you can teach them, until this behavior has become conditioned... conditioning is the key... if you go to work and leave the dog alone it's all off while you're gone... neurosis will ensue. just my experience.
