As a counter to the comment saying you talk too much - the talking is SO helpful, I notice you repeat yourself a lot too. I feel like in a class this makes a lot of sense and these tutorials are extremely helpful. Thank you for sharing :)
If people understood things the first time I say them and the first way that I say them I would not repeat myself. everyone understands in different ways and so saying the same thing in different ways helps people understand it better. I'm happy you understand 😊
Hey Donte! I'm an artist and work with lots of different kinds of Media, but I always wanted to have a go at ceramics so in the last few months on UA-cam I've watched over 300 tutorial videos they've all been fantastic in their own way but have to say as a teacher you've got it I've learnt more from you in the past couple of weeks than I have in the past months, you really engage with people and you obviously love your pottery I'm not just a ceramicist either you're clearly an artist with a capital A.. also really seriously enjoy the humour!!🤣..
Just stumbled upon this video. Very helpful, although the plate wasn't done. You ought to show how you trim it (and know when it's ready to trim), even if it's not much different than a mug. That would explain why you said to leave it so much thicker.
I'm new to pottery and your videos are sooo helpful, thank you kindly! I was wondering, what amount of clay do you use here? (I tried this with about 500 grams but my plate was tiny and I'm trying out figure out what I did wrong 😅) Also, my plate should still be about 2 cm thick by the final stage too, right? (Is the extra thickness to help with trimming later, or for another reason?) Sorry for so many questions! Thanks again, love your videos and sense of humor
Your clay looks really soft. It moves around really easily and you can just draw on it with your finger. The clay I have is not that soft. What makes it like that? Also, what kind of clay do you use?
Looks like bcs 10 or low porcelain, if you're struggling with your clay get something with a little red in it or what we call a low cone clay, the low fire clays are easier to work with. Goof luck and have fun!
I am wondering how you dry the plates. All I hear from teachers is you have to dry the plate slowly or you get cracks. Do you actually just dry it uncovered?

Hi Donte. Thanks for the tutorial! I asked you if you had plate tutorial before and this is perfect.

Ur comment at the end😂😂😂 SAME I can’t do NOTHING without making an anime reference to EVERYTHING😭😭
I have never used a bat in my short wheel throwing life! :P I was taught to use spatula (like for plaster) to remove plates off the wheel. :v
Please always mention how many lbs of clay you’re working with! No one does
depends on the size of the plate you wanna make. I usually use no less than 4 lbs :)
Naruto indeed! Eye of Sharingan
Beginner at the wheel, and I have been so very much enjoying your videos these last few weeks! Thank you. Hope all is well! 😊

Dante - when is the last time you listened to yourself in this video? Love you man
Thank you so much!
Excellent!
The Naruto reference 😂

I slow dry and cover the high majority of my work
I was taught to put it in a cabinet with a wet sponge inside. It will take a second but the cabinet will create a humid environment.
If I don’t have a bat on my wheel, what can I do?
The rim started to flop down and go flat because it didn't have enough weight to support it.
