Wow I need a wheel because you are teaching me so much more than our pottery teacher. This is my third set of classes and I just learned more in the two days I watched your videos.
Thanks you so much for making all of these beginner tutorials! I've watched so many, but they're all missing details I need. I used to throw a lot, but the last time was 15yrs ago. My husband bought me a portable wheel (We spend our lives traveling) so I'd have something to do during quarantine (aside from driving him and the teens nuts). 😂 While I remember a lot from before, including form, I've forgotten a lot of the minor stuff that was natural and easy for me originally and are crucial for each step of throwing. These have been fantastic, and I'm back to being able to start throwing again. Now, I just need to figure out how to get these things fired while quarantined. 🤔
I cannot stop watching all your videos. Not only am I learning so much but you are also making me laugh! So happy to have discovered your channel today!!!!! :)
Thank you so so so so much!! I have taken classes, paid to join online classes and none of them… let me repeat that NONE OF THEM have taught me 1/10 of what you have. Plus you are fun to listen to. But you make everything make sense. Thank you!!!!
I LOVE watching your videos. I'm an art teacher (painting, printmaking, and drawing) and am trying my hand (hands) at the wheel....your videos are ones I can understand. THanks for being so clear AND for your awesome sense of humor. I laugh a billion zillon times (I can't count that high either) watching you throw the junk around.
Thank you so much for your videos. Your the only one from many potters video, who actually shows how to position your hand. I’ve actually learned all the basic of pottery from watching your video!
awesome video...Im a 42 year old guy and starting my first ever pottery class (10 week program) in a few weeks and your videos are a massive help... I now know Im not gonna that totally clueless guy in the first class haha. So, thanks doing these videos, keep'em coming
I just finished my ceramic course in China and you taught me more than what my course did! Your videos are just wow! So much information and super entertaining. Thank you so much!
I am trying to recycle all my mistakes. I am a newbie. What is the best way to go about this? You have awesome videos, I am 81 and need to watch hem over and over again to get it to sink in You videos are very well done. Best I have seen so far. My husband made me a whole setup in garage. I would love to send pic and see what you think, and or what I need to change. Thanks.
Potter tip Use the webbing between the middle and index finger also if your pot is thin adding a foot by making a coil and essentialy throwing a foot is helpful in keeping the thin bottom pot.
BEST Video ever! Humor, Hints and clear directions. I have 2 needs: The video on Centering for Beginners it must be X rated, because its Goneeeee. and your IG link is down. :( .....
You’re the best! Awesome teacher. And Funny. I am learning so much from you! Thank you for bringing your wonderfully weird humor. P💥Tter Tip 👉🏼 One thing I’ve noticed is you often repeat yourself…. You kinda say the same thing a few times in slightly different ways. ¡ Stop it ! Super glad to have found your channel 💕
Your videos make so much sense! I've been loving them! I'd love to see more about common mistakes when opening the bowl! The previous video on pulling just helps so much! Thanks!!!
I've watched all you beginner videos several times. They have helped me immensely. I am having trouble throwing a slightly larger (4#) bellied bowl without the sides collapsing from their own weight. How do I pull and shape a bowl with a rounded out shape like a good batter bowl that is larger?
Very good tutorial thank you! Any chance you could make a "pasta bowl" throwing video? Every time I try to do a pasta bowl I end up with either just "a bowl" or a plate but for some reason pasta bowls seem tricky to make.
wow thank u very much !!! u have a great job!!! It`s very fun to see your video`s. Sorry for my english hahah.....It`s not the best- hihi. I´m from germany. Thank u very much for teach us :-) :-)
Hi I just have a question. Before you cut it in half on the first pot, the very bottom/ base wasn't round like the rest of the pot. It kind of resembles a question mark. This is a problem I always have and I don't know how to make the base round like the rest. it's confusing because your supposed to make the base but then you can't really form any pudginess out from the base because it always has to remain straight and you obviously can't dig your hands into the base because then you'd destroy the floor of the pot. I end up trimming it off but I then the base circle gets smaller and smaller and the very bottom doesn't pudge out. I hope this makes sence sorry if it's confusing... I just really want a pudgy pot but the fact that you can only make it pudgy starting only above the base makes it impossible.
The point of forming what you would consider the question mark is to create a self-supporting curve. if you push it out too far it will fall. Tldr you're pushing the bass out too far period try moving your fingers up the vessel faster instead of pushing the base out so far
Do you sponge water onto your pieces? One thing that I've taken to doing is just dipping my hand into water, and seldom using my sponge until I need to mop out the inside of a piece or clean up the surface. A lot of Japanese potters take the slip that builds up on their hands, adding a little bit of water, and using that slip in lieu of squeezing more water on. Hope this helps!
Love your video very informative in covering the basics but, there in important step your missing. Why are not concondensing the rim of the bowl ? That add extra clay on top and acts like an anchor in keeping your cylinder together as you are pulling up your walls and the it helps keeps your bowl together as you stretching and forming it. Also by having a slightly thicker rim helps visually and functionality of the bowl. Just curious overall that's all and also your very right about the about using the metal rib in forming a bowl and it's works as great trimming tool to refine your bowl inside an outside .
I have tried to learn pottery taking about 5 different classes. I was finally able to open something today. It colapsed 5 seconds late but HEY FAREST i'VE I'VE GOTTEN
Okey so like a week ago I drew out all the shapes I liked of bowls and mugs and plates and even the glazes and designs I want on them and now I can FINALLY make my ULTUMITE RAMEN BOWL, with a lid of course and IM SO READY TO MAKE IT. I had been like trying to pull my walls like in the bowl curvature and it just made some thick ass like 4 pound bowls that not even trimming could save (and you better belive I smashed their sad bisque forms) . And I kept having the metal rib like within reach when im on the wheel and I would look at it and be like "but how the fuck do I do the thing?" and it would go untouched. The gates to bowl haven have been unlocked. Thanks!

At 13:10 what are those cool things with the holes behind you? Am I the only one curious as to what they are? Giant flutes? One stem vases? Love them!
Informative with just the right amount of humour.

Do you have an everything metal rib video?
Very good tutorial thank you! Any chance you could make a "pasta bowl" throwing video? Every time I try to do a pasta bowl I end up with either just "a bowl" or a plate but for some reason pasta bowls seem tricky to make.

Another great clip Danta, thanks again.
I am a beginner (maybe 10 throws) and I seem to only be able to throw bowls and not cylinders. Thoughts?

Hi, can I ask, how do you manage to use so little water? My hands get a little sticky and I worry I loose control. Please advise. Thanks

Thanks for your help. I've been wondering where I was going wrong taking the rim off with a pin. I think it will work next time I do it. :D

This video is just for the rib. The video where I show the proper way to make a bowl is a separate video. Can't make them too long, people complain

Only thing I hate about metal ribs is they cut like a bitch if your not careful.
+Lisa Trahan more red iron in your clay ;)
EarthNation Ceramics , that's funny.
crunkle
I’m sorry, but did you just say “crunkle your fingers?” 😂
Yus. :)
So abusive to JEFF. lol
Bowls > plates
Am I the only one whose mind is in the gutter during the crungkled fingers part? No? Just me? Nevermind, carry on...
Si tan solo hablara un poco más pausado, sería más agradable ver sus tutoriales.
stopped watching when you said it's not called a pokey thing. hit a little too close to home. ill be finding a new teacher for throwing.
Jeff's beautiful
I wish he was not screaming this much! Good tips though! 😂
Screaming?
Why he talks so much goddddd
I think it's because he's explaining something.
