An incredible performance of a most emotional and mature composition. Beethoven and Lucas Jussen are in harmonious unison. What an achievement! Wonderful.
Lucas and Arthur are my favorite pianists by a long shot. In my 75 years I have never heard such beauty come out of a piano. I wish fine pianists such as Yuja Wang would take a few lessons from the jussen brothers. No one plays as well as both Lucas and Arthur.
A well-reasoned and moderate approach to this famous sonata. No showing off here, no theatrics; just excellent playing and brilliant finger technique. Beethoven's message comes through.
such elegance even more so when Lucas was 19 at the time of the performance. There are many older pianists that fail to achieve this level of playing. BRAVO
Dear Lucas, throughout Beethoven's "Pathétique", you made your way right up to the top. You've become the greatest among the best. Bravissimo. May God bless and keep you in His love for ever.
What I like about his Beethoven is that, despite the temptations with the numerous sfz's in the score, he never forces the tone and he maintains a very architectural view of the whole.
JUWELEN
A tremendous account of this beloved sonata, full of the kind of subtlety and nuance you would expect from a much older artist. Both Arthur and his brother Lukas are, indeed, tremendously gifted. I look forward to hearing them both in person!
I couldn't resist: Made my previous comment before I had the oportunity to listen to the Rondo, Tone tone tone pure tone beautiful is not enough. BRAVISSIMO!
So talented yet, so young. The young are very talented. They grow crops. They plow fields. They play instruments. They defend countries. I'm grateful there are those who still know music is the universal language by which ALL of us sing.
What a wonderful and revolutionary touch! Lucas. You're my new star! Your young romantism awakens my romantic soul that has been hibernated for long time.
Excellent! Came across this pianist by accident, first the Waldstein, now the Pathetique. He should be encouraged to go through the whole lot. That would be one of the best recordings of all Beethoven sonatas.
I had to memorize this piece in it's entirety as a teenager. I still struggle to make the transitions between themes within each movement as seamless as possible. His technique makes the tricky parts flow so smoothly.
Wonderful performance ... Ludwig Van... would have been pleased ... Those Jussen Bros will go far... very far, I'm sure ... whether they play alone or together, it is a pleasure to listen to, and to watch them
This is so movingly excellent! Such a combination of youth and musical mastery is truly exceptional. Thank you Lucas for such a performance. Pierre E. Monnin
To My mind this is one of the finest renditions of this sonata and for someone so young he shows immense empathy with the composer. as far as I am concerned he rates as high as Daniel Barenboim, if not slightly higher. WONDERFUL.
Lucas Jussen's approach to this is very different from Barenboim's. Jussen's phrasing is much more defined and firm to Barenboim's mushiness. I like Barenboim the least of all Beethoven interpreters that I've heard and Jussen's the most.
@@frankteunissen6118 I was just going to say that comparing either Jussen or many older piano masters with Barenboim is futile as Barenboim is, while a consummate statesman and mentor, a child prodigy and a capable conductor and pianist, by no means at the top of any shortlist of greatest pianists or conductors though he can surprise his listeners from the keyboard or the podium not infrequently despite his consistent inconsistency.
Lucas, you make my days in the nicest of ways. Keep going. A million thanks. If you could come to Québec City, Canada, I would be the happiest, since I cannot travel anymore.
Wow! Such a talent! What I truly love here is the feeling he puts on it, It's depressing how a great part of the musicians don''t even feel what they're playing, and he does it so well. By the way the piece was played a bit more slowly than I normally hear, but it also sounds wonderful. Sorry for the bad english. :/
they should have handed out cough lozenges to the audience....at least with Covid19 we don't have this problem great performance...even better when you consider Lucas was 19 at the time.I never remember seeing them use sheet music and I've watched most of their videos....and more than once😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Sheet music by a pianist of this calibre at a concert is unheard of. Memorizing the score comes pretty early on in the process of learning and rehearsing a piece. It’s impossible to pay attention to all the subtleties, dynamics, direction from the composer if one is looking at the score. It’s incredibly professional. Have you seen actors performing with scripts. Opera singers?
Notice that the coughing is much more frequent during the slower and, some would say, less interesting second movement - suggesting that the coughing, rather than being necessary, is merely a kind of psychological response to a listener bored by less dynamic music. This strange phenomenon seems to pervade live classical music performances at all levels and is an insult to the performer. If an audience member cannot remain silent during a performance, then he/she should exit the hall.
Gerald Romanow - “Some” would say less interesting? That must be the ones with cement in their heads, born stone deaf. They should remain silent, no? This performance of that inherently most exquisite movement in all of piano reportoire just melted the hearts and brought a tear to those of us who actually “hear” what we’re listening to. The entire performance was, as virtually everything produced by either/both of these superlative musicians, deeply moving and inspiring, if not ennobling.
Some years ago I went to see Keith Jarrett at the South Bank in London. At one point he stopped, turned to the audience and asked why they couldn't contain their coughs. He said something like: 'I hold my cough to the end. Why can't you?' When he started playing again, there was far less coughing. Quite right too!
Whether they slip their advertisements into the pause between two movements when the performer is collecting himself in silence or merely come between him and his meed of applause, the advertisers are not doing themselves a favour. They certainly vex the listener; they will not make him think kindlier of the product advertised.

Bravo, sehr schön, danke, du hast vielen grosse Freude geschenkt!❤
Top prestatie!

Beautifully played. Well studied and just full of feeling. Well done 12:59
A well-reasoned and moderate approach to this famous sonata. No showing off here, no theatrics; just excellent playing and brilliant finger technique. Beethoven's message comes through.
Finally the Rondo as it should be. Everyone goes for speed but Jussen kills it with emotion that permeated Beethoven's not only music but life.
No bashing no hammering. A thoroughly lyrical singing touch. Angelic emissary of the piano.
such elegance even more so when Lucas was 19 at the time of the performance. There are many older pianists that fail to achieve this level of playing. BRAVO
All music, all Beethoven, no performer 'ego'. It's like hearing the piece for the first time. Thank you so much for this.
Beautiful music played to perfection by this wonderful young man... BRILLIANT!
This is the definitive performance of the Pathetique. Exactly how it should be played.
One word, Lucas: " GORGEOUS ".
Thank you! Thank you for this wonderful interpretation. A great performance! A superb pianist!

Lucas Jussen envelops us in Beethoven's music with subtlety and power. Wonderful!
Dear charming young Lucas, I'm listening to "new pieces" of Beethoven: renovated, alive, precise and immensely beautiful. My sincere congratulations.
Wonderful and without mannerisms... stunningly good.
Wonderful performance. Both brothers are great musicians.

Beautiful, clean, expressive rendering!
best best best TONE for Pathétique. He is a master in those Beethoven's crescendos to say the least. Bye Bye to the big guns.

19 años de edad en ese momento.

WHY , at the DESCRIPTION ABOVE is written ONLY ' 3. Rondo ( Allegro ) ' ... ?
