the kind of artist that gives you what you didn't know you've been missing
Juan Cena OMG yeah
Spot on
Spot on
Spot on
spot on .
How did the inter-webs manage to keep this hidden from me for the last 7 years? Mind pleasantly blown.
A year ago, I was in a relationship and the person I was with introduced me to this song and I remember listening to it and I related to it immediately. He was like the narrator and I was Sherry. It very soon became our song. Now when I listen to it, after out relationship has ended, considerable time has passed, this song takes on a very different meaning where, I am the narrator and I always had him saying that "he never met someone like me"... I'm grateful to him for many things, most of which is the music he introduced me too. So even though I've not met someone quite like him either, this is a bittersweet memory that I'll treasure. It's remarkable how another person's work can connect so deeply to my own life experiences.
I love this song even though it brings so memories. There's something so beautiful in the compoisiton of it :)
Thank you Mr. Shauf!
Fun fact: The narrator ends up being gay for Jeremy further on in the album. This whole song is supposed to make you believe the narrator is into Sherry but he was never into Sherry to begin with. The narrator actually starts talking badly about Jeremy so Sherry will break up with Jeremy so the narrator can have Jeremy for himself. This is revealed later on in the album.
Man his music is so chill, refreshing, and contemplative. Anyone know of similar artists? Can't get enough of the simple and honest tunes of the Shauf.
I honestly can't think of another artist like Andy Shauf. There's probably someone similar, maybe Jens Lakemen.
Seconding Jens Lekman, and Hello Saferide might be up your alley too.
You should check out Sufjan Stevens as well! I like "Eugene" and "Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois".
Oh yeah Sufjan is my dude.
I'll be sure to check out this Jens Lekman fellow!
spoocyguy man I just listened to Wilco - Someone to lose, and I found that a bit similar. Also the video is pretty cool.
Such an upsetting song. That's an awful situation but I love how the story is told. I think a lot of people have been in this situation and know what it's like
my life
From wich point of view? I think the protagonist is a horrible person. The girlfriend of one of his best mates is upset. and because he is drunk he misuses her emotion trying to get into her pants.
@@toffegozer this guy gets it
how do you know the girl wasn't pretending to be upset just to get a power trip? Maybe he didn't do anything this time... or the last time. Maybe she's practicing her manipulation techniques.
@@alanmalcheski8882 yikes..
I've been watching Loudermilk recently on Netflix. Man was I surprised when I heard all these Andy Shauf's songs. Took me back. I highly recommend that show.
same
Me n da wifey samesies
I remember watching this when I was about 6 years old,, when it just came out,, I’m fourteen now. Great work!
This what I call real art
1)- A good song
2)- Great lyrics with an original story
3)- Nice video clip
The arrangement and production on this album is so fucking good. I genuinely haven't heard an album that struck me like this in quite a while.
Kurt Vile, Morgan Delt !
Hearsticles
yea dude !
Same
true.
I wish there was a way to like this ten thousand times. I love this so much.
I get a warm overwhelming feeling every time I hear the chord he plays at 1:23, beautiful.
totes knew the part, sames.
It's an am7 wich is fantastic
I love it. It abruptly ends the 'anti-chorus' in this song. Like the thought of "I never really met someone like you" is not resolved thematically, but also musically.
i love the ironic use of the little piano sting at the end, using it for that sad and unresolved ending instead of 'you know i've never really met someone like you'
This is one of my all time favourite songs. And I don't do favourites really. The melancholy sound, the way Andy sings - it's perfect.
2:40 guy playing the keys cool af and the other one vibing the f out of it is just so wholesome. i love it
i love the way he pronounces things
Lmao ikr
Sounds like the lead singers of the band America. Very reminiscent of that sound to me.
So cute
Reminds me of Homestar Runner and Mike Tyson from The Meth Minute.
So you’re into speech impediments. No judgement, everyone’s gotta thing.
Met Andy this summer in our hometown. A fine soul.
The imagery seemed a shocking, until I realized how well it complements the emotional heaviness of the song.
This guy should be huge. It’s like he’s incapable of writing a bad song.. truly amazing..
He is pretty successful in fairness
It’s been so many years and I keep coming back to this over and over again. It hits a part of the heart and head that just can’t be put into words. The imagery adds so much.
Same!!!
X3!
Chad really outdid himself with the animation for this one. It gets the songs across so well. I especially love the part around 2:17 where he starts doing what I can only assume is a sort of mating ritual, truly personifying his aims to sway Sherry for his own selfish means
one doesn't have to be loud to be heard. What a beautifully subtle piece of work this is.
Came for the toons, and stayed for the tunes
WOW THAT ME
wait'll you see the runes on the dunes
@@marfaxa what's "wait'll " though?
wait till
Marcin Ratajczyk you couldnt figure that out on your own huh?
That last chord is haunting, goes so well with what the lyrics portray.
Andy Shauf is one of the only artists that I thoroughly enjoy every song from, they all make me feel really comfortable...
Andy is such a talented and underrated artist, definitely one of my favorites of all time.
Just watched this 5 times in a row. Lovely and catchy tune
every now and then i come back to this song, marvel at the composition its lyrics and production, whilst i get sad. it might just be the best song i ever heard.
This man, like Chad Vangaalen, matching the wonderful songs with wonderful animated visuals.
JUST READ THE DESCRIPTION AND OMG DUDE I feel awesome recognizing the vibes
I never really thought about it, but I think that's the nicest romantic thing I would want to hear. "You know I've never really met someone like you." I'm not usually a mushy person, so idk why, it just hit me pretty hard.
also can you all think of some other songs that give you the same feeling as the "you know I've never really met someone like you" part?
i'm not sure of any songs that give me quite the same feeling this one does, but I know that I'm going to use that precise line when I know I've found someone I love.
Well, it's not really the same emotion, but there's a bit towards the end of the pup song "sleep in the heat" that gets to me whenever i hear it. Something along the lines of, "You hadn't been eating, i thought you were sleeping" which is sung clean, followed by "But you're not waking up." Which is delivered in this very soul wrenching desperate scream. Get's me every time.
if you haven't already hit it, this immediately reminded me of wilco's yankee hotel foxtrot. similar in production values, instrumentation, tone, and even certain musical tendencies. "jesus etc" is probably what you're looking for
@@devinlikesmusic thanks! I looked Wilco up, and your recommendation of "Jesus Etc" was spot on. Right up my alley
"Leave Me Like You Found Me" and "Either Way" by Wilco. "Only for You" by The Heartless Bastards, "Space Song" by Beach House, "Of Lacking Spectacle" by Gus Dapperton and lastly I'll suggest "All Exterior Dark" by Wokava Gentle. I hope you find satisfaction within my suggestions. Have a great day!
almost shed a thug tear at the end. this is what great music should continue to be
Lyrics:
Jeremy's so stoned
I'd be surprised if he saw the tears in Sherry's eyes
She's standing in the corner staring at the floor
I wonder what the hell he did this time
Normally I wouldn't care to be so bold
Tonight I think I'll ask her what is wrong
She seems a bit embarrassed and I understand
I say "I wish that you were having a good time."
She says "You know I've never really met someone like you."
"You know I've never really met someone like you."
I'm not one to speak up but I've had a few
So I start cutting Jeremy right in two
I said "I don't know what you see in him, "
"It seems to me all he ever does is bring you down."
I'm spilling my drink as I really start
Tearing one of my best friends apart
She's getting uneasy and my drunken speech ends
As my hand finds its way to hers
I say "You know I've never really met someone like you."
"You know I've never really met someone like you."
Jeremy walks over and, to my surprise,
Sherry puts her arm around his side.
wow, so simple and complete at the same time, I love everything about this.
I'm so glad there is a video for this song now
Andy shauf is an artist with uniquely feelings, very imtimist , it's hard to find people like that today
The rock I find keeps getting more and more weird and experimental but this is a breath of fresh air. Never heard anything so minimal and so impactful at the same time.
I was having a bit of a rough day and this song made me cry not even gonna lie. I hope I'm not the only one who was feeling this
Adam Dombrowski i cried too OMG haha
Adam Dombrowski why would you hope you were not the only one?
Same, dude. This album got me through some rough times.
This song brings me down so hard. It's a fusion of pure love exploding in my heart because of the pure gold that this song is and sadness by remembering I once was Sherry ):
And what did you do in that situation? I'm super curious to know haha :V
I used to be Jimmy's friend
Dang. I am impressed. What a talented fella!
Wonderful... exactly my taste in music.
damn the video actually portrays the music lyrics. you don't see that very much these days
Will Flems well, chad is king of that
Check out Chad Vangaalen - Molten Light
U dont see it because its generally considered tacky and cringy
Probably cost an absolute fortune

Can confirm, it's been more than a year
Such a piece of art
I never want this song to end
I love his voice, this album is amazing
I had the most unsuspecting uber play Andy for me and it really blew my mind. Already as a fan. Play on playa.
It's apparent that I'm not the only one who's absolutely struck for the first time in a while but a song. I like it so much :) thank you
I love how the “you know i’ve never really met someone like you” line could both be a compliment and insult depending on the context.
this song is super sweet x
Simply my favorite track off of the album. So stoked to see him live this December in Oakland!
This is Steely Dan for the millennial generation. It has that happy-go-lucky tune paired with serious and somewhat sad lyrics. Its great.
Love Steely Dan and I totally agree.

this album is so good
Andy Shauf is underrated
The second time you hear the song, its a complete different feeling
wow .just wow.i love how i stumbled upon this👌
Came for some chills, got some feels.
The first few notes played and I knew I will love this and will question what kind of stuff I may have been missing out entirely through my life :D
Double WOW. Awesome track and a video by Mr Vangaalen.
Fantastic video for a brilliant song. Thanks to Andy and Chad Van Gaalen. I like to respond to those who commented that this is a sad song. It's not. It's funny and ironic like many of Andy Shauf's songs. I really like Andy's sense of humor. Fortunately he is not one of the sad sacks. There's hope that he will have a long life with dozens of great Albums.
Love the animation, story and song.
Where has Andy Schauf been all my life why am I just hearing of him now!!
This is the cutest yet strangest thing I've ever seen.
Clicked this expecting just some short animation or something but am pleasantly suprised, i love this. Beautiful song, definitely a new fan
I've listened to this song more times than I can count over the last week
This is incredible!
So cool. The lyrics are great! And the music is pretty good too!
Lovely song. Gorgeous production.
woah.. I was just gonna comment something along the same lines as I did 3 years ago.... I must've been very high !
The Best
I can't stop listening to this
The mastering on this song is fucking incredible well done who ever done it
This song is really good.

Awesome. Instantly recognized the Chad Vangaalen animation.
Dope. 💜
Where have I seen this before? Oh yeah. Chad VanGaalen. Good to see more animation like this though. I always like seeing this style
That's a hell of a story and along with the video this makes a really really good song.
epic illustration to an epic song. really enjoyed this.
