Not too surprising for a couple of reasons: not much else to do around Moose Jaw; and, he's talented AF (he recorded all the parts for this track them laid them down himself). Respect.
Have you ever had a dream where you fall for a couple of seconds and wake up with your heart racing? I look for music that gives me that feeling. Kinda melancholic.
This song is burned into my mind. “Just a shaking hand without a concrete plan” - feels like you’re on the cusp of taking over the world without the decisiveness. It’s in all of us who are desperate to break the shackles. I’ve got what it takes to be a trivia host, but I’m terrified of being a real person. We are all the same people
anyone else get a deep intense feeling of comfort mixed with a subtle but powerful feeling of like anxiety and being scared? when i listen to his music or similar music i get this feeling. i kind of feel depressed but its like a warm blanket wrapped around me i dont want to leave it but i know i should. please let me know if anyone else feels something similar
wow coming back to this 8 years later. this was one themesong of many from one hell of a romance . it sounds so immediately full and warm. so beautiful
how is this song so beautiful? I've listened to this song on repeat for the last few days and everytime I listen again it still feels powerful and touches my soul, everytime
This has to be my favorite song right now. Happy and sad, definitely nostalgic. Makes me retrospect on life and what led me to this point. I just wish I could share it with someone some day.
Anything Yedam listens I trust. That boy has good taste in music that parallels with mine. And I love this music too even before he brought me here again today.
Good lord boy, I'm a little jazzed at the moment myself and I can understand exactly how that comment came about. Reading it, however... It's still indecipherable.
There is something about the instrumentation of this song that reminds me of Nick Drake. It's the type of song that plays over the credits of a television series episode that wins the emmy. Beautifully haunting.
I always like to revisit this video, seriously a great video and a wonderful song! I found this album while I started a very big personal transition in life. At the time I was cleaning a daycare at night that was apart of a church I grew up in; they had recently gotten into a newer building that had a bit more of an institutionalized feel to it. I remember walking around this big cold empty unfamiliar building at midnight listening to this album, it was a very interesting time.
I listened to this when I was drunk driving to my ex’s house to drop stuff off sobbing out of control using coke daily destroying every relationship I had weird to listen to this again .. I’m sober now 1 year and change
The music video makes me believe for just a moment that beneath this earthly veneer of mundane existence there's indeed a metaphysical world of ethereal phantasmagoria. All hail such artists for making this reality more bearable to us.
I feel this tune is about how as humans we live a life of constant improvisation in all aspects, in the first line (do you find it gets easier each time you make it disappear?) It could be relationships with people, like it gets easier to watch people walk away after it's happened so many times, as well as the lines saying the magician is the one who sweats the most as he sees his options disappear, we run out of choices in life so we become desperate to find what we want from it but in the end we're all just a shaking hand without a concrete plan, in other words an abstract idea trying to understand itself
That's a great take! its important to remember your identity is not married to these relationships; you are your own individual self, however much your life dynamics change, whether it be relationships, jobs, habbits , places of living, appearance, ect. you are still the same person the whole time. To roughly paraphrase George Watsky: People only add to who they are over time .Every thing is the same at its core nothings changed only more than before. maybe im overthinking this a bit though... 🥴
[Verse 1] Do you find It gets a little easier each time you make it disappear? Oh fools, the magician bends the rules As the crowd watches his every move [Chorus] Just a shaking hand without a concrete plan Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo [Verse 2] Sidesteps to a death-defying feat Wait for him to reappear Look close, you’ll see him sweat the most Each time his options disappear [Chorus] Just a shaking hand without a concrete plan Just a shaking hand without a concrete plan I’m a shaking hand without a plan Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo [Outro] Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo
Multiband master compression can give you even low and high end and with adjustments can sound full and rich but can adjusted to sound vintage and dynamic too
Discovered this artist today and definitely surprised I missed this! Especially cause I live close to Toronto which apparently he lives, hope to check out a show soon!
This video is astoundingly wondrous and thoroughly entertaining. I've been an Andy Shauf fan since the beginning so, that I love the song goes without saying. But there, I've said it anyway.
I think that this is my favourite song of his, the song reminds me of Southampton, my home, and the video is just divine. The chord progression is so sad and beautiful. I love the use of funny instruments, like the little bit of clarinet (I think) at 2:07. The end part at 2:44 sounds so dismal and I love it. That end bit is what reminds me of Southampton. That bit physically FEELS like rain. I love this song endlessly.
this song is stuck between happiness and sadness dont know what to feel
that's the good old major 7 chord for you
brian wilson loved that sound
Reminds me of New person same mistakes by Tame Impala
Melancholy
Shit that must be why im so in love with it
I met Andy in 2004 when we were in high school in Moose Jaw, SK. For those of you that dont know, Andy was also a super talented BMX rider!
Not too surprising for a couple of reasons: not much else to do around Moose Jaw; and, he's talented AF (he recorded all the parts for this track them laid them down himself). Respect.
What was he like then?
Nice

I remember how in 2016 I came across this album and listened to it over and over again. It was before my high school graduation
Same, except I was two decades out of graduation.
I love how most of us found this on something and keep coming back! I love yall!
Tripping out, laying in a hammock, watching the clouds and then this song came on. Thank you

Yeah..same, i was lay outside tripping on a hammock. this song came on just randomly as i read your comment.
One of my favorite songs of all time.
His voice is somewhere on the edge of discomfort but never leaves the couch
Andy brings me back to a time when I had creativity oozing through my ears, 6 years ago, now I feel like my creativity has come back alive.
Thank you.
I can't stop listening to this song. It's like being sober and really high at the exact same time.

That’s your third eye opening 😂

This song has gotten me through a lot of hard times.

This song has taken over my life.

I get a Beatles’ Strawberry Fields vibe from this song and the imagery reminds me of the Yellow Submarine movie. Nice job, Andy Shauf.
This is the best album I have heard in YEARS! Reminds me of early 70's Beach Boys, Harry Neilsson, Wings etc. So damn good.
Voice reminds me of Gerry Beckley (of 70s band America).

Yeah i get a similar feeling, you described it well
I don't know English very well, but it does be like this. I feel like I'm missing something in life with the verse "shaking hands withou plans"
Next level stuff. I haven't heard a song this good in a long time
Comeback and listen again :)
Beautiful creativity. This song is utterly heart wrenching.
Come back and listen again :)
Treasure Bang Yedam brought me here this song sound so good love it ❤️
Those cutouts must been a lot of work. Congrats to everyone involved in making this!
You might like a band called The Doublejumps if you like Andy Shauf

Loved the album, listened to it on the road with my mom, she liked the production and said it reminded her of America

Killer compliment, and well-placed!

This is a genius, ambient but emotionally invoking work of art. Godspeed Andy Shauf, may greatness come to an individual of such talents.
how is this song so beautiful? I've listened to this song on repeat for the last few days and everytime I listen again it still feels powerful and touches my soul, everytime
My theory is music like this can only come from long dark winters in a mouldy Canadian basement suite. Bittersweet melancholy
I love the character portrait he's painted with his lyrics.
Andy Shauf is quickly becoming one of my favorite lyricist.

I like the vintage EQing on this. More emphasis on the mid range, I like it.

He also recorded all the instruments and arranged this himself. Amazing to behold!
Nice observation. Overall the mix sounds mid to late 70's. I dig the plate reverb sound as well.
They probably just mixed on more analog equipment than you would normally hear nowadays lol
true about the analog equipment. I bet he ran things through a tape as well
