- Shamima Begum has lost her latest bid to overturn a decision by the UK government to strip her British citizenship.
The Court of Appeal ruling means she remains in Syria with no chance of return to the UK.
Begum left her home in London aged 15 in 2015 to travel to Syria to join Islamic State group.
The now 24-year-old's lawyers brought a bid to overturn a 2023 decision at the Court of Appeal, with the Home Office opposing the challenge.
The Home Office argued the "key feature" of Begum's case was national security.

British government didn't strip her of her citizenship, she relinquished it. She freely went to join the Islamic state meaning she gave up her previous citizenship.
The act of burning your passport by itself doesn't represent formal relinquishment your citizenship, but the calculated decision to travel to Syria, join ISIS to live "pure islamic life" is good enough to deprive her of the UK citizenship.
Basically, if she finds a way to return, she would be detained and deported or maybe even worse.

It’s a legal thing. You can keep appealing all the way to the European court of human rights I believe. Before that she’ll go to Supreme Court. She probably has a couple of appeals left until she runs out of appeal options. Then they’ll try ‘new evidence’ and appeal with that. Legal process is pretty relentless

But, realistically she was a minor and there's no way you can convince a minor living in a relatively stable environment particularly in the west to up and leave for a unstable war zone without some level of coercing and grooming. Why do people make up conspiracy theories about 9/11 that can't be proved, while ignoring actual, easily proved historical facts, about how Afghanistan wouldn't be an extremist hotspot if it wasn't for the USA?
Also when British people are killed by extremists who trained in Libya after Gaddafi was killed, such as in Tunisia and the Manchester concert, no media reminds people of when the secret service whistle blower David Shayler told how Britain was going along with the USA funding Al Qaeda in Libya to kill Gaddafi. Syria under Assad was one of the few middle east countries with many religions that live together in peace. Shamima Begum had Bangladesh citizenship until it was removed on her 21st birthday by the Bangladesh government. This is not an issue for the British government to consider, they did not strip her of this nor can they reinstate this. Spot on in mentioning that BBC would be disappointed, the lawyer in Ms Begum's case is talking as if her client was innocent and government was to blame. It would be precedent for other such cases in future and government should stick the decision of deprivation.

In my own humble opinion, her mitigating factors should have been that she was not fully adult. However, she was in a comfortable position eg: living and studying in Britain. She decided to stop that level of comfort, renouncing it, and the freedom that she was naturally recognised to her at birth, to serve a different cause

How many people were attacked, suffered, or were brutally killed because of her actions. Perhaps she was not involved in the fighting, but she likely joined that terror organization to support it. When an organization get's support, it encourages them to do more of what they have been doing.

She won’t accept no for an answer. She’ll continue wasting taxpayer money with her legal fees until she’s finally exhausted all possible ways to appeal. Like every single illegal migrant that crosses the channel she wants to mooch off the taxpayers for years with a comfy life provided by the government at the taxpayers expense.
The only difference is that she had all that. She was a British citizen who grew up with all the rights, protections and benefits that come with it. And then she betrayed her country, rejected it and all that it stood for to go and join a regime of brutal terro**sts. She had a good time with them and was perfectly happy to breed new little terr**ists for them.
Until it all came crashing down as the terro**st caliphate wasn’t as strong as they thought they were and got crushed. Then she wound up in a prison camp for terr**ists and it sucked. She didn’t regret joining the terr**ists, it’s just that life in Britain was better than a prison camp. That’s it.
