Restoring My OLD Wiring Harness and Making it Look NEW! | 80 Series Land Cruiser

  • The LAND CRUISER build continues! Today I restore and repair the wiring harness loom and remove the transmission for inspection and upgrades on my 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser. I'll be removing the old broken connectors from the wiring harness, installing new connector housings, fixing old wires, taping the harness, sleeving, and re-looming the harness. I'll also be removing the A442F (a343F in later years) transmission since I'll be installing the engine and transmission back into this truck as one unit. That thing is huge!
With the engine at the machine shop, I needed to make some progress on the landcruiser and I'm stoked with how this harness came out. Looks WAY better and I feel confident in its longevity and reliability. I used Tesa 51036 tape for the harness wrap, Techflex Insultherm for the harness sleeving, and Thermo-Tec Cool-It for the high temperature heat wrap, and tied everything up with adhesive lined heatshrink. The fuel injector clips are Toyota part number 90980-11153.

I love all the 80 Series content! Doesn’t look like a fun time but it gives me an idea of what I’ll be doing some day in the distant future.

Yep, I think most 80 series Land Cruiser's need this done!

Great work. Totally worth while to pull the harness and change out all the covers and broken plugs. Done this on a few rigs.

Thanks dude! For sure, definitely adds a lot to the reliability factor of the rig.

Great insight on the wiring harness. I just had my 1FZ replaced with a brand new built one by a shop. Although I couldn't be there for every step of the way, watching your vid gave me another dimension & understanding of the entire process. Thanks for providing the content as it was informative and understandable. Looking forward to the rest of your build.

I have a 94 and just swapped a 1FZ from a 97 in it but still need to redo my harness. Also plan on rebuilding the old one to keep as a spare. Would have liked to do a OBD2 swap but I guess the crank shaft position sensor is there if I ever want to in the future. This was a very helpful video and your production quality is really good as well. Hope your chanel blows up. 95 and up actually have a 2 piece transmission cooler line which helped a lot pulling just the engine in the newer ones vs 93-94

Nice! I wish my truck was OBDII so I could boost it without tuning woes, but I think if I ever got to the point of boost I’d throw in a V8 instead.
I really appreciate it, and I didn’t know that about the later models. Thanks!

I've been watching your videos on rebuilding your 80 series. I have an LX450 I am rebuilding using a new Toyota short block. You mentioned replacing broken connector housings besides the injector housings. Do you have part numbers for the other housing if I need to replace some of mine?
    Thank you
