  • Holding your breath longer is a mental game. If you can master what goes on between your ears, you'll do fine. So STOP treating a breathhold like if it's something you have to physically train for. Not at beginners's level! Yes, at an advanced level you'll engage in physical training for longer breathholds, but not for the vast maiority of people who are beginners. That's you!

What's up guys ! the nr.1 question i'm getting when it comes down to practising breath-holding is HOW MANY TIMES a certain exercise should be done. I'm here to tell you this is the WRONG question! Your focus should be on other things! Watch this entire video and let me know your feedback here in the comments!

Great advice; I looked up many videos about breath holding but this one feels like the most important one. Thanks!

it's more abiut the bad habitd you should stop having, than the things you should do. Most of the time when you remove limiting factors thsts already enough to make progress.

Without realising it, I've had a lifetime of practising breath-holds (usually without starting with a deep breath) because I've been holding my breath to move past or avoid smokers. The smoke could trigger my asthma, so I've gotten used to holding my breath and making a quick escape on very short notice. I wouldn't say my breath-holds are anywhere near a freediver's, but it's long enough to get occasional questions when I have fun at the bottom of a pool.
It's only recently that I've been having serious thoughts about freediving, since a doctor advised that scuba tanks could be bad for my asthma but I'd really like to get close to some coral reefs.

there you go! so you've held your breath on partially empty lungs. That's a good practice!
ps. you can see corals as well while freediving, you just have to get good at it 😁
