And thank you Calgary that we got him and with two Stanley Cup Finals appearances including the first ever Stanley Cup championship in Florida Panthers franchise history. As a Cats fan, I am so happy he’s been the culture change that we needed it
The sad sport like is as another grooms trains and teaches him how to become a great player we unfortunately trade him and he wins a Stanley cup with another u.s. team as a flames fan it's frustrating and happy to see total mixed emotions.
I was so high on tkachuk in that draft. I thought there was no way my canucks would pass on him as he was projected to go right where they were picking. Unfortunately they passed on him, I was so disappointed then, even more disappointed now
I remember me and my brother watching the draft.. we heard benning say “from the London Knights” we were like HF WE PICKED TKACHUK” then he said “olli juolevi” me and him were like NOOO, MAYBE JUST MAYBE HE WILL BE GOOD”
As a Finn i legitly didn't even know who Juolevi was before 2016 worlds juniors. He shined in that tournament but that's kind of 'short' achievement to go #5 overall in an nhl draft.. 🤔 Ps. We had Rantanen, Laine, Aho, Hintz, Puljujärvi, Kapanen, Mikkola(+few other who played in nhl later) and Kähkönen between the pipes in that gold winning team.. So basically Finnish 4 nations face off team core without Miro, Barky, Lehky, Lundy, Granny, Saros, UPL +- few others. That was one of the better Finnish teams ever(not only in juniors!), so kind of hard to not shine with those guys..which makes it even more weird Juolevi went fifth overall in my opinion. 😳
Fun fact; when Teemu Selänne was our #1 boy in nhl with the Jets Keith Tkachuk was the other star player ripping players(Chris Chelios for example) off of Teemu. Now when Barky became first Finnish captain to win the cup he has Matthew Tkachuk to defend him if someone tries to hurt him etc. .. Fun coincidence just sayin. 🙂
The canucks selected Juolevi one pick ahead of M. Tkachuck which they also did with Pastrnak 2 years earlier. When you look at some teams issues with middling success, there’s reasons.
Wow, didn't know they could have gotten Patrnak. So the canucks(for example)are allergic to star forwards besides their own and even them, Miller and Petey hate each other at this point..Wtf 😄 @matthewsmith5374
@ Canucks are allergic to good decisions. Personally I think the animosity is mostly media driven, but if they had better wingers maybe everybody would be in better moods.
@@Zueee23 Well we know that now but at draft time everythings a coin toss. Canucks needs were for a defenceman at the time. But i agree Bennings should have taken Tkachuk
The 2016 NHL Entry Draft was a rather mixed bag. There no doubt were hits, with, whether drafted in the top-10 or below, AM34, Matt Tkachuk, Clayton Keller, Mikhail Sergachev, Charlie McAvoy, Tage Thompson, Filip Gustavsson, Adam Fox, Ross Colton, Mikey Eyssimont, Brandon Hagel and Jesper Bratt but, just in the top-10, busts Olli Juolevi (having spent last NHL season splitting time between teams in the Swedish Hockey League and SM Liiga) and Alex Nylander (having, in every season following the month during which he had been drafted, played at least some non-preseason games for AHL affiliates of NHL teams).
I have been saddened by Jesse's situation. He had such a promising start and he is a really nice and positive man. But unfortunately, things don't always go well
My top 5 players would look something like this... no doubt Matthews is #1 at the moment, but his injury history could change this 5 years from now. Matthews Tkachuk Keller Debrincat Laine
Laine also was forced to “learn” and play centrmen instead of a winger in Columbus. He has a great shot and offensive mind but he in no way is a center or has the defensive game to be. He also has shown that he does not focus on the defensive game as much. Columbus is terrible at development so it’s not very shocking.
And thank you Calgary that we got him and with two Stanley Cup Finals appearances including the first ever Stanley Cup championship in Florida Panthers franchise history. As a Cats fan, I am so happy he’s been the culture change that we needed it
Tkachuk is a warrior i don't care what anybody says!
Sure is!
Pi$$ off
Tkachuk is on top 3 my favorite players

Me too! Francesca is the worst owner!
And Laine is now in the same division as Matthews just like Jack Eichel is in with Connor McDavid in the Pacific Division
Da fk is ur point

As a Panthers fan, Tkachuk is an absolute hockey demigod.

I'll never get over Benning choosing Juolevi over Tkachuk...
Ya thats a tough one
Juolevi's development was sideline by injuries. By the time he was healthy he was pushed into action where he just couldn't keep up.
@@stewarts8597regardless Mathew was better
@@Zueee23 Well we know that now but at draft time everythings a coin toss. Canucks needs were for a defenceman at the time. But i agree Bennings should have taken Tkachuk
@ we did need a defenceman…. We still neeeed one
Even worst was Habs selection KK and not Brady Thachuk
Meh who cares really. He’s been on a losing team since his draft.

09:18 Thats is Timrå in the SHL (Swedish league).
As an Oilers fan... I'd don't want to talk about it
😂
As an Oiler fan, blame it on Columbus. I was hoping for Tkachuk before the draft started. Oilers took the bait, and the rest is history.
Agreed. Jesse seemed like a steal that draft annnnnnnnnnnd then... sigh.
I have been saddened by Jesse's situation. He had such a promising start and he is a really nice and positive man. But unfortunately, things don't always go well
bruh imagine if he went to the oilers..
What about my favorite team aka his arch nemesis bruins
If Columbus had taken Puljujarvi at #3, the Oilers were going to take Tkachuk at #4
Thanks, Kekalainen
My top 5 players would look something like this... no doubt Matthews is #1 at the moment, but his injury history could change this 5 years from now.
Matthews
Tkachuk
Keller
Debrincat
Laine
Hagel over Laine. All day every day.
@@chelious1973 Yeah i'll give you that one, he's a bit of a late bloomer. I never realized he was drafted by Buffalo that long ago
I was SOOO MAD when my Nucks took Ollie Joulevi over Matthew Tkachuk

He was not forced, he wanted to do it himself.
Everything fell into place except Pullijevei lol
Canucks missed there window over Tachuck
Yuuup
insane how absolutely good of a goal scorer laine is and how absolutely horrid of a captain wheeler was
on that note - also insane how horrid PLD is of a human being
i legit couldn’t be less of a fan of any of these teams but the only thing watching pld has shown is a case of genuine wasted potential
pully is the goat tho no kap love that guy seems like a good kid
9:17 says returns to finland yet shows him in a swedish team
Ooops! Good catch!
@ he only did 9 games in Sweden before going to Finland so easy miss and not really a big deal either. Nice video anyways
Jesper Bratt
Video would take so long haha but love it!
Matthew would be 2nd behind Auston
Agree!
Leafs should have traded the top pick amd traded down for Tkachuk
I think Matthews is still top of that draft
Matthews has consistently choked in the first round leafs have 1 round win since being drafted that’s unexceptable
Matthew’s over kutchuk
Still no cup with Matthews.
PLD = pretty lazy dude
😂
