@orango007 Every team slept on him, including the lightning. Because if they envisioned this for him, they wouldn't have picked 3 other guys before him. Drafting, just like picking the lottery numbers, is soooo easy in hindsight.
Not the only time that happened. Every team thought Martin St Louis was too small for the league. Undrafted. Just the right size for the Hall of Fame. If you are taller than Bettman you have a shot.

They said Koivu enforced a clique consisting of his wingers and other players, while Ribeiro had his own, but I think it was the younger guys trying to be positive with Mike. I saw Ribeiro play in the QMJHL and he was a hair close to beating a couple Mario Lemieux records then, despite partying all night, not sleeping etc, his immense talent compensated, at least he never lost his love for hockey, because his story could have turned like Alexandre Daigle, I'm glad it didn't come to that, but he ended up in Nashville's AHL affiliate. So, Koivu if he hadn't been injured so much is a contender for the time I've been alive. Otherwise, it's Guy Carbonneau to St-Louis for Jim Montgomery and I think some 4rd round pick, when that guy got traded from Montreal, their descent into their darkest age (96-2000) was solidified, they traded Mark Recchi (who was having his worst season in his very long career, pts per game, it was his worst, and he played close to 25 seasons) for not much, giving away to Philadelphia, again, one of their best players (Eric Desjardins, John LeClair) for slow untalented trap-centred guys in general after winning the cup in 93, the reason they didnt again is the complete dilapidation of what made that team so great to start with, LeClair had not even turned into a 50 goal scorer yet, he did the following season. Carbonneau was the perfect third line centre, very Jared Staal-like player, he had his best offensive season on his rookie season, getting 70+ pts and that would be the only time, as he turned into a penalty killer, faceoff specialist, got captaincy and unfortunately ended up elsewhere which he never wanted to see happen, but Patrick Roy detested that GM of theirs (Réjean "Peanut" Houle), likely the worst GM any team ever had except maybe Mike Milbury.
Suzuki similar to Thomas but much better defensively and I'd say a better goal scorer. Suzuki and Thomas are both elite teir playmakers, Suzuki is definitely better all around though.
Makar is the clear #1, a generational talent. I'd put Heiskanen next. Not much to choose between Hischier, Pettersson and Suzuki. I'd put Suzuki ahead of the other two only because he is having to carry the load as both the captain and top center on a struggling team. Ironically, Hischier is playing where he belongs as a second line center where he is also the captain. Pettersson, Tippett and Necas are just behind these guys. I guess that puts Suzuki at #3 for me but to be honest, he is not a true #1 center, eg, he isn't clearly better than Hischier. Suzuki would be the number 2 center on pretty much every playoff team in the league but on Montreal he is the clear #1 and the only legit NHL center they have.
There were a few draft picks that didnt work out. Always happens but most were decent picks. Nick Suzuki though is one of those over achievers and leaders any team is lucky to get.
The only reason why detroits pick gets so few points is because he plays on the third and fourth line and does so much more than score goals. He could easily double his point production by playing on the first or second line
The manager and the organisation saved him from his own downfall. They Gave him a chance and he rose with this opportunity and had never looked back after that.
I do believe that my Jets originally owned this pick but in order not wanting to lose Enstrom to Vegas expansion draft😒 So they made a deal for VGK to pick Thorburn instead and switch 1st rounders so Jets picked Vesalainen instead in which still has potential IG💁

Necas,Thomas and Middlestadt are better and more complete player than uni-dimensional Suzuki.So barely cracks the Top 10 as i would probably find 2 or 3 other guy from the later rounds i would pick in my team before Suzuki.

Already play with Caufield who is a 35-40 goals scores / year and he is actually not that impressive. He is still the best Canadians player but, clearly not a top elite player! To be honest Caufield have more hands then Suzuki.
