The formula for great UA-cam sailing videos: a likeable person who is good at explaining things showing us how to fix an interesting boat in an exotic location. Well your “Slow Boat” videos sure raised that bar to the next level. Thank you Pip!
Why is this my favourite Vendée journey? Well all sailors have something in the pit of their stomachs worrying about loosing the rig and how to manage that. Beyond that Pip’s tenacity and ability to move on in adversity is wonderful.
Mrs. MacGyver 🎉 you are incredible, Pip. This is so much more interesting and breath taking than the whole Vendee Globe. ❤👍👍👍 THANK YOU 🙏🙏 for sharing your way to Melbourne ❤
Wow Pip - this is better than the race!!! Absolutely inspirational. Just remember if you do get blown into Tassy there is a place for you at our Christmas table. Keep up the good work, we're rooting for you. Jeremy
Hi Pip! I know you really wanted to kick @$$ in the racing bit and we were all rooting for you, but like others, I'm finding this more interesting and just as exciting. Three knots or 30, decisions have to be made and challenges faced. Thank you so much for continuing to post and giving us this close-up view 'handling it.'
My father had a habit of saying "Son, the world was discovered at three knots." We were 150 miles southeast of St Johns, Newfoundland heading to Ireland. These detailed videos are great in showing that the Vendee is not all foiling at 25 knots. On rare occasions you have to figure out to go 3 knots. Can't wait to see the new sail.
Pip, I am Eleanor , writing from northeastern US. You and your team should have a prize for most resilient , real , and connective person in the race. Your sharing of the experience is palpable. Thankfuls for your strong lessons in being a person. Wishing you steady going and adventures on your way to Melbourne, Eleanor
Out of your adversity has come the most fascinating story yet of the Vendee Globe which has all your fans captivated by your tenacity and inventiveness. The sheer fact you are still willing to communicate and update us with your progress is absolutely incredible. Good luck with your new trysail which I am sure will help to speed you on your way. Stay safe and please remember to eat and sleep. 👏💐
From a complete non-sailor - what you're doing is so impressive. Thank you for sharing your journey and inspring us to keep going when the going gets tough. You are a remarkable human being!
Great demonstration of self sufficiency at sea, combined with your current boat speed, automatically qualifies you for honorary membership of The Dingy Cruising Association!
building confidence with Pip, explaining the weather basics. What a person can do with Jerry rigging. Routing , planning Keeping a calm demeanor. All very interesting.
Full of admiration Pip. From the comments coming in from all around the world, you are clearly inspiring so many of us with your tenacity, hard work and positivity. With so many saying they will be in Melbourne to welcome you, your team should be selling tickets! It could fund 2028/29!
There should really be a special award for Pip and her shear guts, perserverance and above all, her optimism... What an inspiration! And what a role model.
Pip you are one special woman, most sailors would have given up by now, but not you, you will get there and live to fight another day, you're an inspiration.
Pip, you are an ace at educational videos about sailing! What a great way to make the best of a situation that you would rather not have been in! Your resilience and resourcefulness are inspiring! I subscribed for the rest of this series, and I can imagine your former competitors watching this when they are done racing, and admiring your spirit and your storytelling skills.
It is so great watching you 'slay' these problems and so eloquently explain the issues and solutions to all us entranced supporters! I really have no excuse to repair the clothes line now! Keep going Pip and safe passage.
Guess who I want to be standing next to if I ever suffer a catastrophe ! And following what Pip is doing on board is more interesting than the race. And good old Sikaflex, as we've been saying in the boating world for decades, "it sticks like shit to a blanket" Wishing her and the jury rig all the best.
Hi Pip, Its so wonderful that you take us with you on this unexpected journey! I really enjoy watching your educational videos. Can you show in one video how you constructed the rigg? I have no clue how to do it and want to know. On this video it looks like you have no wires going down to the boat on the side of the mast. I was wondering how the mast is holding in strong side winds…?🤓Good luck and we are all cheering for you and the slow boat!🫶🏻💫
Bravo Pip, vous vous en sortez à merveille en parfaite autonomie, c’est formidable, c’est ça la vraie victoire du Vendée Globe ❤ PS : je viens de m’abonner à votre chaîne 😊
Pip, you're showing as you're such a brilliant sailor, adapting the resources you have at hand to make another sail. What a great lesson for all ! Stay safe and fair winds.
Oh yes, this is the Slow Boat to catch. Can I book a ride please, it looks such fun. No consolation for you Pip of course, but it's great to see your enjoyment and see you smiling. ❤
Thanks for sharing the Slow Boat series of your video adventure. It is fun seeing you figure out how to get a race boat to cruise. I am looking forward to watching after I was gutted by the dismasting at first after four years of watching you getting ready for this race. All the best
Awesome performance Pip! You're doing great and are incredibly brave! We are keeping our fingers crossed that you arrive safely and quickly in Melbourne!
Bravo PIp ❤
Incredible Pip! Thanks for making the effort to share your story with us all! We are local Poole sailors and love seeing medallia coming and going. We’ve loved following your race and seeing how you are getting on every day! Amazing performance and now the journey has just got even more hardcore! Fair winds to Aus. How will you and Medallia be getting home to UK? Best wishes from inspired home sailors!
What was the Paul Carrick song........!! Thees ships (sorry Dad boats!) logs are brilliant (better than the Christmas TV!) and all of us fortunate to watch are in a small way with you metre by metre- safe sailing.
Hi Pip, thank you for sharing your slow journey to Melbourne. I'm having slow days myself now, heavily pregnant and waiting for this baby to show up... definitely a 4-knot situation, in a way. Bored to death and rather scared. Perhaps I'll give birth right when you get to Melbourne. Good luck!!!!
Best wishes for a big boost from the additional sail - seems like it will move the center of effort of the combined sail plan aft to a better balanced location - go Pip Hare Ocean Racing!
Rays of kindness and light are sent to you Pip from cold Moscow, Russia. I was following your race. I am very upset that there was a breakdown. The main thing is that you are alive and well. Fix the boat. And I am sure that you will try to win again! I wish you all the best. With respect, Pavel
Wow, what an awesome sailor Pip is. A very warm summer awaits you. I've sailed the Southern Ocean many times over the years, its certainly not a way I'd want to do it, but you're showing us all how to make the best of a bad situation. Huge respect. X
You are awesome Pip! 👊🤙 I must admit I shed a few tears when I heard about your mast. I can’t believe how resilient you are. The way you have turned this terrible incident into something positive, is amazing! I will be eagerly awaiting your “slow boat” videos. I live in the Cape Leeuwin region and my son works in Augusta (the town at the Cape). Four of us had decided we would meet you about 5/10 kilometres out to escort you into the harbour and welcome you back onto dry land. Lol unfortunately for us you are closer to Melbourne. Sending you some virtual hugs and wishing you safe passage to Melbourne. 🤗😊👊🤙🙏❤️
Please keep these videos coming Pip. As others have intimated, in some ways your journey now is more fascinating than the race itself (if that is possible). Your determination and tenacity in the face of a huge disappointment is a lesson to us all. Simply marvellous......well done Pip !
Géniale de regarder cette vidéo où l'expérience et la technique font des merveilles ! Lentement mais sûrement...A cup of tea and it's gona be better ! Bon courage.Tu es géniale !
Deck sweeper! Ohhhhh, such high performance, Pip. Still reckon you should finish the race. Someone would drop off a food package in the water for you to "find" for you to carry on to the finish.
Dear Pip, you are a heroine to me because you continue to fight so bravely. I keep watching your videos in which you look for best solutions. Admirable! I wish you a good and safe journey to the Australien coast. Take good care to yourself. Best wishes. Kerstin 😊
Hello Pip! I'm absolutely in awe how you cope with the situation you're in. I hope the tri-sail will give you wings! Lots of love from The Netherlands🥰
Way to go Pip in your endeavours to get to safety in Oz. I am curious though why your sailing to Melbourne rather then Tassie, given it’s closer. I can only assume it’s due to the angle of the winds in the Southern Ocean ??
These are the most interesting videos coming off the Vendee yachts at the moment 😂😂😂😂. BTW Might be worth considering a sea anchor in the storm instead of the jury rig, to lessen drift to the south.
Did. you learn all those DIY rigging stuff somewhere or is it genius sailor‘s ideas ? Absolutely brilliant! Thank you for sharing your story, much more thrilling than the rest of the fleet
I hope your team meets you in Melbourne and there's one heck of a welcome home party. If so, I hope you live-stream it so we can all share in the moment. God Bless.
This is like some hard-core krypton factor challenge. There are sailors and land lubbers alike glued (heh) to the updates. Keep em coming and don’t accept the first film or book rights that are offered 😊
I know that it is difficult for you. But I think it's great how you take us with you on your long journey. I find the videos super interesting. Thank you very much for that. I hope the front doesn't set you back too much. I wish you a good VMG.
Truely amazing! Thanks so much for sharing your experience in these difficult times! Looking at the speed this is almost like most normal people are traveling with their sailing yacht across the Baltic Sea 😅 Safe travel to Melbourne ❤
I know it's tough for you, but these are the most interesting and educational videos I've seen since the start of the race. Good luck and godspeed!

Totally blown away by your expertise and determination!!

Pip, you are an awesome problem-solver. It’s quite an education for you, and thanks for inviting us into your “school” so that we learn as well.
From a complete non-sailor - what you're doing is so impressive. Thank you for sharing your journey and inspring us to keep going when the going gets tough. You are a remarkable human being!
Congrats Pip for making you way to land under the circumstances. You're the hero.
Making your own sails Pip, with some Sikaflex and bits of Dyneema?
YOU ROCK !
🤙🤙
Bravo Pip ! tu es un exemple pour tous !! Résilience, courage, humilité, et malgré tout l'envie de partager :) on est tous avec toi !!
Great demonstration of self sufficiency at sea, combined with your current boat speed, automatically qualifies you for honorary membership of The Dingy Cruising Association!
As a 61 yr old female. I think you are so fantastic, what an encouragement to women every where!
Tri-sail, something to hang on to and hang up in your living room back home. “How I went sailing without a mast!” Brilliant! 🇨🇦
Well, this is really an original and unique Vendée experience. Thanks for letting us participate on your "adventure".
building confidence with Pip, explaining the weather basics. What a person can do with Jerry rigging. Routing , planning Keeping a calm demeanor. All very interesting.
A true sailor! Well done Pip what can i say amazing! ❤
Pip you are SO amazing! You are such an inspiration! Looking forward to seeing updates on your New adventure!
Well done Pip, another step forward with the second sail. Hoping it helps your speed.
Slow Boat to Oz..........best vlog on youtube !!!! Well done Pip, great to see you smiling through 😃

Now that is proper impressive sailing and problem solving skills. Huge respect.
Driving home using only the on-board resources and your own skills is the true art. Respect! ❤
There should really be a special award for Pip and her shear guts, perserverance and above all, her optimism... What an inspiration! And what a role model.
You mean like the „Yves-Parlier-Trophy“? Actually, then it has to be opened to those who do not finish 😂.
Pip Thanks so much for making these video’s this is as fascinating as watching the race.
I’m enjoying these videos far more than the racing 😊
Pip is my hero, absolutely! She shows us real character! Thank you Pip for your lessons for life on the Slow Boat.
Pip you are one special woman, most sailors would have given up by now, but not you, you will get there and live to fight another day, you're an inspiration.
Keep up the good work! Glad to see you making progress.

Que de l’admiration devant cette femme incroyable..come on Pip👍❤️
So good to see you bounce back from what must have been heartbreaking. We can’t help you physically but we’re there with you. Keep smiling.

fantastic job! With the try-sail up you might get on those foils soon! :D
Yup!
What the other 156 comments have said!
You are Amazing and your story is the most fascinating part of the Vendee right now!
Just endorsing the words and feelings that so many others have already posted. Rock on, Pip.

Rig the coffee grinder up to the prop, that will keep you busy and fit 😊
In all seriousness, I am very impressed with your stoic attitude. Godspeed.
