Highlight of my day Pip. Your misfortune, a bad one indeed, has been fortunate for many of us around the world because you have shown us what a special person you are. The highs, and lows you showed today of the demasting, the demasting aftermath, the tears, laughs, seal talk time, teabag trauma. What an experience. May "the 4 winds blow you safely home" as the song goes ❤
If I had the means I would hop on a plane any fly to Melbourne just to cheer your arrival. Keep pressing and keep taking advantage of the time to just experience what a unique and magnificent place you have found yourself in
Who else would have the presence of mind, tenacity and grit to start filming and describing their situation almost as soon as their mast had come down? What a star you are Pip! It is good to hear you are going to take the time to check out the rig before the wind strengthens - proper seawomanship! Enjoy the sights and sounds of the Southern Ocean while you can because the next time you pass through you will be too busy racing. 👍💐
Good on 'ya, Pip! You're the embodiment of positive persistence. The happy warrior. Never give up. Get knocked down six times, get up seven. Regardless of who crosses the line first in Sables d'Olonne, you're the Vendée champion I shall remember.
Formidable! Vous êtes l'exemple même du courage de la force et de la patience ! Merci de nous permettre de vous suivre chaque jour, car nous sommes quand même très inquiets pour vous ...All the best !
Absolutely inspiring, Pip! The way you handled the dismasting with such resilience and determination is a true testament to your spirit. Your journey shows the world what grit and courage really mean. Keep inspiring us all!
What a tough woman. You are the real star of this years VG. Good luck Pip from a former sailer at Optimist World Championship France 1977. Stay safe...
Pip, you’re such an inspiration far beyond the world of sailing. Your hands-on problem-solving - but I really love your way of allowing emotions and taking things positively and with humor at the same time! Enjoy your cuppa ☕️
Pip's story of courage and resilience is truly inspiring. So many people are captivated by her heroic struggle with adversity and the elements down there in the Southern Ocean. We are all cheering her on as she inches towards Melbourne. What an emotional reception she will get as she reaches Port Phillip heads!
I think what is happening here is actually 'real' sailing... As opposed to unobtainable racing and going faster than weather systems! Thankyou pip for your openess and lessons in human spirit, ingenuity and sheer determination as your challenge changed from racing into the reality of the struggles of life wherever people are. Whilst physically you might be alone on the ocean - I think the numbers on the chanel speak for the thousands that are mentally thinking of you, following you and wishing you well in this actual sailing challenge!💪
You might have lost your mast, you might need to keep hold of your bobble hat in the wind, but the weather will never remove your optimistic outlook and wonderful smile.
BRILLIANT bit of jury rig work Pip! To be able to accomplish that under that amount of duress is nothing short of heroic, and you should be very proud of what you have managed to overcome. May blue skies, flat seas, and steady winds accompany you the rest of the way to Melbourne!
If I ever achieve 7.4Kn in my cornish shrimper it'll be mostly tidal flow!! Well done Pip! You are making such a story of heroism, tenacity and ingenuity. I feel privileged to be sharing this in real time. So looking forward to you arriving in Melbourne.
Pip, this is awesome. Gutted you didn't get to complete the race, but the after-story is inspirational. Some of the best content out of the VG, and a great tale of self reliance & problem solving. Also, if you had to end up anywhere other than Les Sables, there's no better place in the world than Melbourne.. Hope you get to enjoy it!
I'm glad your current forecasts are less frightening. Holding the image of a smooth passage to Melbourne. I so appreciate your sharing all of this with us. You are so open, honest, and generous. A true star!❤⛵️
A true leg end!! Keep using the same teabag - it may loose its colour but it will still remind you of what you have in Oz. A brilliant episode and great editing and more respect than just words. Safe sailing.
Pip, I used to work in quality in an automotive company and one of our tools was learning problem solving techniques and applying them to find the root cause. Experts called this an 8-discipline process. Here, in step 2, the problem is known, the mast breaks with a total loss. Step 3 is the interim solution. These require process knowledge of function, but also a big talent for effective improvisation, to come close to the needs and a safe function You are a master of sailing and improvisation. Your smile is back, half the distance to Melbourne after the crash seems to be behind you. Land in sight. Cheer up and I believe (and hope) that you will get a welcome party in Melbourne like the others who will reach France in about 5 weeks. Greetings from Germany.
Pip, we are all very concerned that this next low pressure may be a real dilly. Understandable, you are one of the most experienced sailors in the Vendee Globe and that all precautions are underway for the safety of both your vessel and yourselves, yet the dangers of this horrific situation may consume your strength and sap the energy without notice. Marvelous tutorial on a proper rigging with results after dismasting the vessel.
Working on cleaning up the mast in the cold rain, you look understandably miserable. Wonderful that you could carry on and get yourself up to 7.3 knots .... Try for a record 8 knots! Full of admiration for you, Pip!
1st Vendée: rudder 2nd Vendée: rig 3rd Vendée: ?😮 Joking apart, it's these times we see what an incredibly resourceful, knowledgeable and experienced sailor you are. So impressive. Can't tell you how much I look forward to the daily update from the SBTM and how closely I follow the tracker. Today's easterly course made me wonder if there were thoughts of going to Tasmania instead, perhaps to at least get fuel. But perhaps it's more about the wind detection.
I second all that’s been said in praise of you, Pip. We sit in our warm bed drinking our early morning cuppa and marvel at your determination and calmness. Less than 400? Easy!
You're so beautiful .... physically yes, but it's that inner determination, your humble attitude, your gratitude, and your intelligence that just amplify the physical. It's stunning and inspiring in the current state of the world to know there are beauties like you who are hopefully inspiring the next generations. Thanks you.
This is the most interesting series of sailing I have seen. Thank you for the videos, I find this much more interesting than the Vendee itself, even though I do enjoy the race and appreciate the difficulty that all competitors experience. Thank you Pip, you are giving your sponsors real value for their support.
Out of teabags!!?? Seriously? And at over 100 miles in a day and touching over 7kt, you should be back in the Vende! Seriously though, thanks for sharing the aftermath of the dismasting and what you did to create a jury rig. We can see the emotions. Fair winds to Melbourne!
Pip, you're a rock star. You are showing determination, injinuity and first class seamanship. I am very impressed with your sail making design , the tri looks very serviceable and obviously performs. 7+ knots under jury rig, I surmise the 10 knot target is very possible, heck, shoot for 11! Your daily updates are absolutely fantastic, thanks heaps for taking time to post. May the four winds blow you home indeed! In admiration, Dean
I knew you had everything under control but now I'm very concerned, last teabag? 😢 I cant imagine what it must feel like being 400 miles from the nearest teabag. Stay safe, lots of love from Scotland.
I'm going to just come out and say it. I think i speak for quite a few that feel the eventual Vendee 2024 winner is secondary to THIS story. We're looking forward to regular updates and ultimate arrival in Aus. You go girl ❤.
What a brave soldier you are Pip. The emotion of seeing the smashed rig was heartfelt for you and all your thousands of fans. Your updates are better than the rest of the Vendée news!❤
What a huge inspiration you are to me and thousands of others. If anyone was undecided about getting into sailing, then watching you over the last few weeks will surely have convinced many more people to take the the water. Keep going, stay safe. x
Hi Pip. Thanks for sharing how you worked out the dismasting situation and how you were able to get a plan and executed it so fast. Amazing! I belive that we would all prefer that you could still be racing, but what you are doing is bigger, much bigger than winning the Vendée Globe and it is giving the world the opportunity to see what you are capable off and what are you made off. Lesson for life. Good to know the weather is going to be on your side. Keep on going and stay safe.
I was so enthralled watching how you addressed you're dismasting that I almost burned my toast! Very resourceful! Glad you're making great progress, you'll be in Melbourne before you know it.
Incredible. Simply incredible. I know she trained for this but it’s still amazing to watch all the footage. I know the leaders go around the horn tomorrow and good for them but my love of the vendee is this kind of endeavour, no matter how unwelcome.
So good to see you so happy and healthy Pip despite what has happened, a great testament to your spirit and resilience. Enjoy every minute, a once in a lifetime experience.
7.4 knots top, that’s genuinely impressive from that rig. I reckon that if you get fair wind to hold on the rhumb line you could average 5Knots and make 120Nm in 24hrs, which was a pretty good average day’s passage for us on our last cruiser delivery across the pond. I really hope that you haven’t chucked your used teabags, they can have a second life once dried, two per cup. Keep on keeping on, you’re doing an amazing job of making the best out of a sh^tstorm and a lot more people recognise that than you could possibly imagine. Keep focused, stay safe and eat some bloody food!
RRREEESSSPPPEEECCCTTT !!! For you mental, physical and technical qualities. Great example for us ‘normal humans’; I salute you 🫡 GO PIP !!! Cheers, Harry

Bravo Pip!!!! Putting that outrigger up as a jury rig mast was no small feat. Hugely impressive. I am very sorry about the tea bag shortage on board. The Australians should air drop some. No one should have to sail any distance without tea.
this is turning into the best story in this race. The reality of the consequences of such an incredible challenge. Loving the pain and the attitude you are bringing to the challenge to getting back to land. I will continue to follow and encourage you......
Good afternoon. I am writing to you from the south of Brazil. Congratulations on everything you are doing, an example of courage and strength that inspires us. Thank you very much and continue to pay close attention to everything. You will soon arrive in Melbourne and will have won the most valuable prize of this adventure. Thank you again.
I love your ingenuity in coming up with a functioning new rig that can propel you along at 7 knots. You have real courage and strength! Also glad that you have found the joy of strolling along at 7 knots, revelling in the beauty of the sunrise and experiencing the thrill of being alive, if you know what I mean.
This is so inspiring... We'll be telling yours experiences to our kids, how to never give up! Here in Brazil we say if you have a lemon, make a lemonade... Have a safe journey my dear!
Thank you for making these update videos. When you lost your mast AND were removed from the race tracker, we were concerned. Now my wife and I, who are old Pacific cruisers, can watch you cruise along at speeds familiar to us! (We never got South of NZ though....) Stay tough, Pip[! A hero's welcome awaits you!
Please, people of Melbourne, give this wonderful woman a outstanding ovation when she arrives in port !
We will! She deserves it! Pip, you are a legend!
What have you organised? Will it be filmed? Can someone go out and tow her in the last bit? @@davejob630
Spread the word in Melbourne 👍👍👍🎉
Eine Freude zu sehen, wie du mit diesem Schicksal fertig wirst und wieder lachen kannst. Gute Reise!

Still the best show on YoutTube at the moment, thanks
I look forward to every episode!😁
I wish our world leaders had the guts and determination of this woman !
You said it. She is extraordinary. We all need to learn from here the looking for the bright side in all.
I totally agree !.
I suspect many of them did, and then politics happens... most of the idealistic ones get crushed, and you're left with what you see
Pip for world president!!!
I find Pips challenge to get to Melbourne under jury rig fascinating, real seamanship and ingenuity at work. We love you Pip!

I love how universally everyone agrees that you can never have enough soft shackles!
……..and teabags!
Her good humour and optimism are contagious, she's definitely a champion.
20 or mmore years into the future this will be one of the stories still being told about the vende Globe!
