While I can fully understand Pip’s initial despair and frustration shortly after the dismasting, it’s great to see she is back smiling and in a cheerful mood. These slow boat episodes are so much more entertaining and educational than any of the other Vendee Globe videos. It goes to show that although it is technically a race, the attraction for me (and probably many others) in following the race is not so much in whoever is going fastest but all about the resilience and perseverance of the sailors and how they deal with the various problems that they encounter. Pip is a great example of how to cope in difficult circumstances, with some good English humor too! It’s really amazing to watch, and a must-see for all aspiring solo sailors.
Pip, you are a huge inspiration to us all!! I cried when you told of your dismasting, and I now laugh out loud watching Slow Boat to Australia. Your enthusiasm, perseverance and good humour are contagious! 💝⛵️
Pip, you're an absolute genius! If I got stranded on a remote island with you, I wouldn't have any sorrows on how to cope! You're intelligent, optimistic and you've got lots of humor. Go Pip, go!
Who cares about the Vendee Globe when you can follow the Slowboat live broadcast? OK, maybe you won't win the race this time, but you've definitely won the hearts of the fans! We love you, your fighting spirit, your humor and, last but not least, your resilience!
Oh how our view of reality changes in context...5.3 Kts..."I have a half an hour of pure speed". Pip, this is a master class on so many levels...ingenuity, emotional recovery, positive thinking, and the right song at the right time "Should I Stay or Should I Go"...clearly you are going 🙂 I don't know if you'd ever read this Pip, but I so understand the roller coaster of emotion this moment has been for you. I had worked hard a long to get my horse and me ready for a show after 3 years away; 11 days before the event he foundered, came close to being so bad as to end it, and yet with the help of an amazing team, have started him healing again. You are on the slow boat, I'm on the slow recovery path, but like you...I work the problems and look up to the goal, not down in despair. I know Vendee is about blasting around the world, but I just loved that moment when you panned around and exclaimed..."there is so much color". Sometimes slow allows us to really see what is around us in the now. You will be back to fast action and I hope to see you in the next VG, pushing the limits again.
The definition of resilience through adversity = Pip Hare. You are an amazing human-being and an example to everyone of how to react when life gets hard. 💪
“This is going to be ballistic”!! 😂😂 gotta love Pip’s attitude and enthusiasm. I imagine there will be quite a welcoming fleet upon reaching Melbourne. Go Pip Go!!
What a joy to see Pip so happy!... What a lesson also for those who whine while they're still in the race...! Even without a mast, this event remains a real human adventure, and Pip is without doubt its most "luminous" representative!... Bravo and respect madame!
I am loving this new slow boat to Australia series. The excitement you had when your new rigged up dail working was pure joy to see. Fair winds and following seas Pip. Much love from Canada
COURAGE Pip , tu vas y arrivé apparemment tu as le moral cela fait plaisir à voir , nous te suivront jusqu'en AUSTRALIE comme ça tu seras moins seule !!
Wooohoooo. 120 miles a day @ 5kn! Youll be in Melbourne in under a week. That will be great to see Pip safe in harbour🎉 but sad for us all who will lose the best sailing channel story on UA-cam 😢
Pip is an incredible lady, so much part of the Vendée Globe saga. My very best wishes to her although she doesn't need wishes, she is capable of taking care of herself, smiling. A true beacon.
Awesome new series! The new, Hare-raising adventures of Pip and Medallia. Keep it up, and good luck! I am confident that the folks of Melbourne are going to give you an absolute heroes welcome when you get there. You deserve it!
Hats off Madam ! Thank you Pip for sharing your endless positive mind and your comforting smile in your second race - almost - around the ocean. Glad to see you winning this one with all honors.
Crikey! As a total land-lubber who knows the square root of zilch about sailing, the utter joy I'm having watching Slow Boat to Australia is beyond measure!! Pip, you are an inspiration. Your resilience, humour and utter determination in the face of unimaginable disappointment of having to abandon the race is.....well, I can't even find the words. The excitement at increasing your speed by 4 knots having fixed and devised a way of using another sail made me laugh and sing along loudly with you. Thank you so much for sharing all your ups and downs with us mere mortals. Respect. Stay safe and keep smiling! (PS: One thing I do know about is Chococo. Best chocolate in the world....)
This is like a video book unfolding! Pip, your determination, sense of humour and excitement is infectious. Your use of nautical terminology is impressive. Love your updates.
That's why it's called a trysail ;) I must say I am blown away by your ability to make lemonade out of lemons. Quite educational, too. Go the mighty Medallia!!!
Episode 3 is worth a GOLD MEDALLION! Your triumphant laugh is infectious. Time has now been reduced to reach Melbourne, by your sheer genius. No one will ever be able to match that.
It seems, whenever I travel, if everything goes according to plan, the memory fades quickly. The most memorable experiences are those where there's some sort of disaster. It brings out the best. I hope there are many young people watching this. It's the kind of example that should be the inspiration for us all. Some allow adversity to dominate - others relish the challenge. Pip, I think you've got a huge (and growing) crew pushing Medallia through the waves!
My only concern is that Pip will get to Melbourne, and the best part of the Vendée Globe will be over. This is wonderful to watch. Pip's enthusiasm and charm in the face of what could otherwise have been a disaster turns this into must-watch UA-cam! Thanks, Pip. You are an inspiration!
This is becoming a really good watch each day, Pip's resilience to overcoming adversity is amazing and her excitement at the new challenges is great to see
You are fantastic! Beside the expression “rise to the challenge”, there ought to be a photo of you, Pip. This is a real reality show. Go, go Gadget Pip!
The scene with you stitching the head strops onto the trisail and singing along to Should I Stay or Should I go was sooooo cool. And then the joy on your face when you got it up and hit 5.3 knots. Brilliant Pip. Goon onya mate!
You are definitely my new favourite show on UA-cam as well. I absolutely love your cheerful plucky spirit and wow what a sailor in the greatest traditions of seamanship -figuring it all out. Fantastic you ! 💪👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🥂
Brilliant, go good to see you smiling and (dare I say it) enjoying yourself on the boat as you perfect the jury rig. You can take the mast out of the race boat but you can’t that the racer out of Pip!
Go, go , go Pip! You got this. Love your “I can do” attitude and that tri sail actually looks very professional and best of all you are celebrating 5+ knots! Funny yet poignant.
You show us a magnificent example of what resilience is and what it means to make the best of a bad situation. You are an example to us all. God bless you.
For me Pip is the winner of hearts in this vendee. She has got it all: the spirit, the energy, the skills and coping with desaster in a positive way. Greatest respect for a lady who was born to do this in the most inspirational way and hope she gets an enthusiastic welcome in melbourne.
😅 Yes that is right! Neptune, I have a Problem... But you are doing the best job. This shows your big personality! One of the best skipper in the world with funny hats (for every day another hat?) Greetings from Germany
Ah Pip we've been feeling so much for you as a fam given the bad luck you've had - your resilience & positive vibes burst thru the camera! The ingenuity of your sail mod is amazing. Best wishes from the Noosa Hinterland in Queensland Australia 👍🙏💪
lying in my bed in Munich on a saturday morning, shortest day of the year, and enjoying the sunshine you and your attitude deliver right into my heart. Thanks for the smile, Pip, and travel safe!
Pip you are so amazing to watch. Your sense of wonder, joy and humor as you sort through all your challenges is just so fun to watch. Bravo! Best show on UA-cam for sure
So happy that we can vicariously ride along with you, on the slow boat to Melbourne!! What a joy to witness your progress, Pip! We are so proud of you! Rock on! (Love that music you listen to, too!!)
That was the most extraordinary, inspiring sailing video I have ever seen. When people remember you they will not think 'Pip Hafre, did a bit of ocean racing, did the Vendee a couple of times -p did quite well actually', they will say 'Pip Hare whe was dismasted in the Southern ocean and not only made a jury rig but filmed the whole thing in detail and uploaded it.!
Slow Boat to Australia is an excellent sailing school. I have been sailing on the Baltic for 65 years and I have always managed. I am full of appreciation and admiration, it is a great example for all sailors. This is the true joy of sailing. Greetings. Piotr Stelmarczyk Yacht Club Polski Szczecin Slow Boat to Australia to znakomita szkoła żeglowania. Zegluję po Baltyku od 65 lat i zawsze dawalem sobie radę. Jestem pełen uznania i podziwu, to znakomity wzór dla wszystkich żeglarzy. To jest prawdziwa radość żeglowania. Pozdrowienia. Piotr Stelmarczyk Yacht Klub Polski Szczecin
Well done Pip. Next time your are doing 30 knots remember that for us lessor mortals with old boats, 150 miles a day is good going. I hope the wind stays good for Melbourne.

So fantastic that you're sharing this, while the race is charging on without you. You are a Super Hero! Respect.
You squeezing a knot or two more out of your boat has livened up the VG immensely. Great work.
Brilliant. A sailmakers palm!!! The Clash and the shear joy on Pip's face was great. What a great set of videos.
Loving your soundtracks and lovely to see you smiling and keeping busy Pip
