One thing I see a lot of snowboarding tutorials miss, including this one is explaining what it means to use your heel or toes to initiate turns. When turning toe side, it initially helps to tell someone to physically push their toes, especially your front toes toward the ground and when turning heel side to push your heel into the ground. Sorta like how when you’re on a bicycle, your turning/handlebar is on the front of the bike, when you’re in a car, steering wheel is up front, not back, motorcycle, front, not back, etc. using your front foot to dig into the ground with your toe or heel helps and will rarely betray you, then as you advance you’ll be getter at using both heels and toes at the same time (more or less) to turn, but even if you only use your front foot to dig toe into the ground and heel into the ground it’ll never betray you. Someone once told me when I was a beginner that you initiate the turn with your back foot and that makes no sense, it’s better to think of using your front foot, then slowly transition to distributing your weight to use both.
Pointing the hand always helps it click when I teach people. Awesome video I’ll have to watch it again whenever I’m preparing to teach someone new
Nice Justin! Pointing was one of my go to tips for beginners.
Awesome vid! Can't wait to get out on the mountain this season!
Have fun!
This is great thank you! My family of 5 are heading to Japan this week and have missed out on lessons. So fingers crossed this helps us all
Great job Kevin. My first snowboard session is today and the sum and total of my knowledge is what I saw in your videos. GTG!
This was really helpful. I’m currently sitting in the car park to have a refresher lesson and using my arms will be the first thing I try.
Illl try that with keira in tomorow morning!! Great tips for both of us
Thx for the tip❤
Bro your videos really help thanks! I havent snowboarded since I was 16 I'm 35 now but I hit a resort yesterday and I had fun I only hit the green runs but it was awesome 😎
Love your videos! I’m having so much trouble learning toe side turns. I can do heel and ride switch no problem, but struggle with the toe. I’ll definitely rewatch this before I go to the hill Saturday.
Hope the videos help. Facing your chest to the top should really help!
I just tried snow boarding for the first time after being a skier for about 16 years, it's hard for me to turn. I'll be up on the hill tomorrow, hopefully these work!
Ty for these tips! What mountain is this by the way? Looks like beginner/intermediate heaven with those wide runs!
how easy should a snowboard be to move I'm fairly tall but not very athletic and the rental snowboard given to me seems to be a bit heavy, I see you move with ease, if u could help me figure it out how tall are u how much do u weigh and how big is the snowboard that u use
Quick question because somebody told me that if I wanna go straight down the hill, I have to be on my edge but doesn’t being on your edge make you turn so don’t you have to alternate from your heel to your toe to go faster but if you wanna go straight you have to be flat
trying to teach our 7 year old daughter to snowboard. She knows how to go on her heels to stop, and basically can go side to side on heels or go down with right or left foot, but can't go on her toes to start to initiate turns. She is nervous to try to do that. Any advice on what to do to help her get to that point?
I don’t understand why since I have been watching a lot of snowboarding videos a lot of ads about insurance and training for gun owners I have been getting during the videos when I don’t even own a gun. What snowboarding has to do with guns?
Hey Kevin, im a regular and im comfortable in heel side but when i started to point my booard down i find it hard to turn using my toe side and my board immediately catch an speed and i crash eventually. What should i do?
Hey dunno I had the same issue and what worked for me was to focus more on following your 'front arm' w/ the right posture and really point it in the direction you want to go. Maybe this will work for you too?
Can you please advice the snowboard boots size. My regular shoe size is 9
Should be the same or try a half or full size bigger but mine fit the same as my street shoes
My regular shoes are size 9.5, but my snowboard boots are size 8.5.
Just go to a store and they’ll help you with a proper boot fitting.
I have to teach my cousins tomorrow. I dont feel like thier hamd gestures are going to make their heels or toes go to work.
I’m going to Breck in a few days 12/27-1/3. I bought a full day lesson for the 28th but they haven’t scheduled it solid yet. If they don’t have anyone available for my full day lesson, what do I do? It’s my first time.
Sup dude did you have fun?
what is your thought on tommie benett? he is a sell out? i heard him and buckhouse had a fall out cause tommie was a liar, is that true?
