Thank you for your helpful videos this one in particular. This comment was also put on one of your less watched videos, but it may help some: Added CanSmart to my 1200GS today: The ring that goes on the red battery screw had heat shrink too long, down under the screw and adjacent ring terminal: electricians are not allowed to have any wire insulation under the switch and receptacle screw heads for good reason. I trimmed mine on both sides of the ring. Buy and store an extra 30 micro fuse or two to carry on your trips. The long "horn" cord can also feed insulated 1/4" spades crimped onto lights with just two wires, headlights or rear lights. The CanSmart can majcally dim these as well, maybe just 50%. Denali sells a pigtail that goes in/onto its 3 wire connectors so you can solder or crimp on a wide variety of your 12 volt things or just waterproof an open ended connector (be sure to insulate each tail separately). They don't sell the microUSB waterproof plug, but my pigtail order requested one too. . Hope this helps some.
I just finished installing the Gen2 that Steve sent me for my 2014 GS with D4's , sound bomb and B6 rear light and works fantastic . Used both circuits just with D4's at the moment until I get some more lights so i could have just one light go off with the indicator. Only issue I had was the bracket for the Horn had smaller M6 bolts running the opposite direction so just got some longer S/S bolts and screwed right through the bracket so that threads came out the other side and put some large washers over the bolt carriers and then was able to mount the horn in the same configuration that Steve showed. Also ran both circuits along the left hand side as found the cable carrier on the right side was in the way. Also had to blank off the spare plugs for awhile so just did that with some heat shrink tubing cut longer so that could flatten, heat and seal the open end. Great set up but now we are in COVID lockdown for 6 days and can't ride the bike. (I'm in South Australia - only 23 Covid cases in the outbreak due to a COVID strain that came here from the UK and spread from quarantine. My thoughts are with everybody overseas as we have been so lucky here to date. I wore my first face mask today!!)
Brilliant demonstration Mate. Could only come from having done this numerous times with each time through getting better. Love all the Denali’s and this companies philosophy on quality and customer service. This is how I will set up my 2020 GSA. No question. One cannot have enough lights. The Denali Sound Bomb, a very legitimate horn, is a paramount piece of equipment that BMW to date, a company all about safety has not addressed on all of their bikes particularly the ADV line. With 80%+ of ADV riding done on pavement a horn is crucial. Why BMW doesn’t recognize this is beyond me. All they really need do is put the horn from the K1600 touring bikes series, problem solved.
I realized that in the US, the BMW OEM Mirror Stalk switch for "Aux. Headlights" can NOT become a way to activate a "high beam helping light (at night)" so I bought a CanSmart which can.
Nice work, great video! Just got the Gen 1 Can and run a pair of Dr1's and D4's on a K1600GT. I'll probably upgrade to the Gen 2 as I too dislike loosing all lights when indicating.
I think this could be three or four videos. Also consistent terminology for a simple man like me works ....red, white, circuit 1 circuit 2/3, left, right .....like I said I'm simple hahah Keep up the great vids and good luck with the channel.
Good stuff. Pleased to hear it. You're the guy I left hanging a while earlier this year....yes? Very sorry once again. Hey at least you'll get the new Gen2. Get in!
This is a good video, thank you it is very informative. I bought a bundle from you for my GS Adventure. My only problem is I got only 2 wire harness for the light pods and I need more one wire harness for my pair of light pod which will i plug in to the brake circuit or horn circuit. My question is where can i buy an extra wire harness for a pair of light pod? I know that the gen 2 cansmart only comes with 2 set of wire harness for light pods.
I purchased a used 2018 GSA with a cansmart installed... how to quickly tell if it's a gen 1 or gen 2? Not seeing any indicator on unit or in software.
The length of the gen2 is noticeable against the gen1. Much longer but are you able to see all 4 circuit plugs? On a Gen2 they’re all the same size 3 pin MT plugs and the wires are colour coded to represent each circuit.....red, white, blue, yellow. Gen1 has 2 x 3 pin MT plugs and 2 x 2 pin plugs.
Thanks. I really was not happy about this video. Tried to fact find at the same time as trying to be a fountain of knowledge. More videos will follow as I get to know the unit better. Lots of installations in the pipeline coming up with these new gen2's
Great help thank you, I am however worried that by not turning off the aux lights during indicator use your turn signal is less visible even on one side ?
Good morning . I have a 1250 gs adventure t. I installed the cansmart and denali lights d4. yesterday I went to bwm and they tell me that when connecting the bmw diagnostic machine. There are many failures. Do you think it is normal? There is no error on the tft screen of the motorcycle, but when the computer is connected via obd in bmw, the faults appear. Greetings. Your videos are very good. Congratulations .
Nice video. I would like to ask something though. When i start the ignition, cansmart shows orange light and the neither D4s nor D2s turn on. I manage to turn them only accidentally. I have tried pressing turn signal 3 sec before ignition, i tried after ignition, but i do not understand how i can set them starting when i want to. I would be grateful if you could help me.
Plug laptop in and check amp ratings. Btw I won’t get a notification if you reply on here so if you want me to see a reply you’re better of email us direct. Contact details are in the footer of all videos
Tom Maragos hi tom, yes I did but I’m actually videoing a new installation today where I’m going to wire my horn via a relay to the oem horn bypassing g the cansmart. This will free up the horn circuit to be reprogrammed to be the rear light. And yes the horn will still work and the lights will still strobe when the horn is pressed. Might be a week or two until that video comes. It’ll also be conjoined with a total bike strip down with fuel tank off.
Can I have the question regarding horn setup? Is it possible to program to switch between the original horn and the Denali soundbomb or we can only use one of them?
SirLuLzDalot check my more recent videos. I now recommend to wire the soundbomb via a relay away from the cansmart. This frees up a circuit for the brake light.
I'm so disappointed My hexezcan can't control the turn lights. Question; Can this GEN 2 do Bluetooth, wifi? will the software work with Android or ISO? Or do I have to plug it into a laptop? Has GEN2 improved the interface? I hate the hexezcan interface?
If you use only D4's and you want this setup with two cables on each side. Then a plug on each cable will not be used. Is there a protection for the unused plug?
Diederich Penders great question........yes and no. Denali do not have one but I have made a load using female plugs and then sealed up the three pin holes using sealant. I’ll be making a short video on this in the next week or two. I’ve made these based on my own forecasted requirement. So very pleased you’ve asked the question. 👍

I don’t know. Shipping is only 2 to 3 days to Italy. In most cases next day. Don’t forget since Brexit our prices to you are even cheaper as we’ve taken the tax off. You then have to pay your local tax when it arrives in the country.

Hi Steve,
So going by this video does that mean you sacrifice the rear light for the third set of front lights?
Thanks,
Tom

Same factory button sounds factory horn and soundbomb at same time
Why sacrifice Brake Light to keep light on for indicating, just go back to splitting the front lights...
SirLuLzDalot check my more recent videos. I now recommend to wire the soundbomb via a relay away from the cansmart. This frees up a circuit for the brake light.

If your hex is gen2 then yes it can. You need 1 circuit going to each light.
