Joey's structure deck is the best out of all these starter decks. Even when me and my friends do this kind of duels back in 2005, the Joey deck has the best win rate. And playing structure decks is always fun. I'd rather do these than wait for my opponent to set up board for 10 minutes, while the only card i can ever play effectively in the entire match is ash blossom.
I would like to see you guys make a "Starter Deck" of This ERA, 40 Cards, At Least 12 Normal Monsters, 8 Effect monsters, 10 Spells, 10 Traps, can have 2 Fusion monsters. Note: We could do a community event with it.
The thing is normal monsters are bit too slow nowadays Then i suggest these archetypes that have normal monsters in them like World Chalice and World legacy, Tenyi, Suships and sunavalon.

Anyway though been loving these nostalgia videos, I did just want to say though the audio in this vid is a bit quiet compared to the music playing, doesn't make it unwatchable by any stretch it's just a teeny bit annoying. Yea, at that point in a duel, I throw caution to the wind and just go for broke. If it works, hey, that's great. Whatever comes out next is probably gonna be smaller than a red eyes. If it doesn't work because of reinforcements or something, at least you went down swinging.
I dont think i can ever get enough of the starter decks videos, theyre soo well made and its kinda refreshing not seeing the decks being super strong???? I dont know there is some kinda of charm in less combo heavy decks
Maybe I’m just old but the old school yugioh to me is more entertaining, no 5 minute turns shuffling 6 times and going through half the deck and negating every move
I learned an interesting fact teaching one of my friends to play yugioh. Apparently because I had Lord of D on the field she could use Flute of Summoning Dragon, because Flute’s text doesn’t say “YOUR” of the field it just says Lord of D has to be on the field. Was not happy she summoned Blue-Eyes on me
Joey was a true underdog. I remember Yugi having a card based on him during the Grand Championship arc. I believe that card was "Heart Of The Underdog".
Unlike Kaiba or Yugi, Joey didnt have the money to get the strongest cards (like Seto who carried them around in his briefcase) nor was he an ancient pharaoh with magical items (like yugi). Just his ability, friends and some luck at the right time. And he still ranked high among the top duelists of the world.
@@fangzntalonz for what he had as a deck he was pretty good. Unlike Yugi (who had a very strong deck thanks to his grandap owning a card shop) and Kaiba (who bought the best cards of the world) Joey deck was not as theme focused as the one of Kaiba or Yugi and he relied heavily on any card he could get his hands on (unlike yugi who only took the three god cards because they were important for his mission on earth and the red eyes that he kept for sentimental reasons, yugi never used any of the card he won during battle city while Joey relied heavily on some of them, like jinzo and great moth, and he even got the red eyes by beating rex in the duelist kingdom arc).
Had a slight issue with the audio balancing of your voices in some spots, you got really muffled and the music overpowered what you were saying. Otherwise though, awesome duel! Keep these classic structure deck matches coming cause they are so much fun!
I was wondering why Paul didn't crash Red-Eyes into Thousand Dragon at the end. Reinforcements to save it makes sense. It's wild how much of a quality improvment the Joey/Pegasus decks were though. I'm curious how the Evolution Yugi and Kaiba decks would fair against Joey and Pegasus decks now.

After this series is done and you guys get the other official character structure decks dueled with it'd be super cool to see duel monster character deck matchups like this where it's not just a ton of modern support shoved into an old archetype. It'd tickle everyone's nostalgia while not also causing agony to the modern TCG player trying to figure out what the hell is going on in the anime card game rules
Here's an idea. Get three copies of the same deck, build a deck with all other cards going into the sidedeck, have a round robin tournament with the four OG starter decks.
At first I joked to myself and said "wait, Paul had the Kaiba Starter Deck as a kid, that gives him an advantage!" but Alec was able to pull out the W at the end, proving the supremacy of Red-Eyes Black Dragon, my personal favorite starter deck card!
i wanna see a 4 way duel between all 4 of these starter decks not a tag team duel a every man for him self yugi vs kaiba vs joey vs pegasus last man standing i think that would really cool to watch
On the second game, I was wishing you'd summon time wizard, activate his effect to destroy your opponents monsters, fusion summon thousand dragon and end the game. Would have been the perfect anime ending to a duel.
I think it would be interesting to see a only normal monsters match or a special summons disabled match (multiple effect cards that include special summons can resolve other effects but cards that have special summons as a cost or a trigger will not activate)
I would really like to see a video of you guys dueling using your actual current main decks, im sure you probably do that offscreen but still would be fun to watch. Also ive been playing the D/D/D deck and its super fun, would like to see a video on that as well.
I haven't seen the video yet but I'm predicting that SDJ (starter deck Joey) is going to win. SDJ has not only a vanilla beater in harpie's brother that matches SDK (starter deck kaiba) La jinn the mystical genie of the lamp, but SDJ also has options that far surpass what is available to SDK. Options like karate man, Maha vailo with equipping, and more trap options. It's down to when each was released : SDK only has some LOB pool and some exclusive options While SDJ has some LOB, MRD, MRL, PSV, and slight LON, plus exclusives for options. I didn't even mention/remember that SDJ has gearfried, so another level 4 1800 attack beater. Also penguin soldier, which is a crazy good card for tempo. Landing hits with white magical hat is devestating for SDK. SDJ has sangan, which can fetch penguin soldier or karate man as examples of how SDJ can more reliably answer nearly anything that SDK throws at it. I seen the video now, and I'm only surprised that SDK got lucky in game 2, because SDJ was caught in a weird spot where the options available were the wrong ones for the circumstances. It was a bit of a slaughter though. For SDK vs SDP, expect SDP to rip it apart.
Just found this channel and man, I love this so much. I can tell you guys are having fun and love the game, the ambient music, the nostalgia. Thank you for making these videos 🙏

I like the older upper deck printed cards more than the modern cards/frames. It's weird because they slightly increased the frame for bit bigger art, which sounds good on paper, but I still think the old cards look and feel superior to the modern ones. Relinquished was the first card to really push the text amount a few levels up, followed by thousand eyes restrict. Relinquished would have been less of an issue if there was some type of word used like an evergreen mechanic to condense all the ritual summoning stipulations. Hey guys! Love these duels, been watching for damn near a year at this point, would LOVE to see a “Dino vs Hero’s” or a “Dinos vs Cyber dragons” video! Or you could even do the dinosmasher structure deck vs the cyber dark structure deck battle!
Funny thing about old Yugioh. You remember the monster interaction and ignore the constant set & pass or sitting on an ace monster plays. The ability to search out Blue Eyes stuff toxks me off but there is no denying Paul would have done less set & pass if he could have searchdd for Flute or a way to bring out his ace. In some ways all those annoying little extenders and tutors for things help make the game more interactive...intheory any way xD
Wish we had more starter decks back in the day. Bakura deck May deck Bandit keith deck Rex and weevil should've been a thing but atleast we have them in speed duel, back then would've been way better.
Great old school duels. I loved how both red eyes and blue eyes got to shine. From what I remember, the first 4 started decks Joey's was Def the strongest.
Feels weird to see the old structure decks. Back then it was simply “Monster card, one effect, maybe a spell or trap.” Nowadays it’s at least 20 different monster effects, 10 monsters played in one turn, and the turn lasts for at least a whole episode of Yugioh.
You guys could actually create some orica cards and get them printed, make duels and upload them. Like Anime Z-One - Timelord vs Anime Bakura - Destiny Board or smth like that. Or make boss duels. Would be fun to watch i think
I liked the extra gusto y'all put into it when declaring attacks and summoning XD There were times where I couldn't hear what was being said because it sounds like they whispering or rather talking in a low voice. "I SUMMON RED EYES BLACK DRAGON fisifhfbdkfnfjdjingding" like that I think it would be cool if you did a small analysis of those decks and talked about their strengths and weaknesses and why the Kaiba deck lost so much. Overall it was pretty cool to see old decks being reused and appreciating the early version of the game. I wanted to know what to early starter decks would look like vs eachother
It feels wierd that white magical hat is in the Joey starter deck and rouge doll is in the kiaba starter deck because those charecters were pined against those cards
Great video. Love seeing these duels. The audio mixing is definitely a little off in this one though. Music's a bit loud compared to your voices, or maybe you guys were talking quietly and the mics didn't pick it up?
Back in the day where Lv 4 with 1800 - 1900 ATK or 2000 DEF is a good strategy to flood the board for tribute summon material... Game is very chill back then.. Now I need to set up Chixiao, Baronn, and Draco Tenyi with handtrap (Ash, PSY Gamma) to hold my board while setting Cross Out, Imperm, or Called By Grave to hold my board
god i remember judge man for the sole reason that a kid i played with thought he was indestructible due to flavor text, and we had a half hour argument over it till his older brother told him otherwise. good times
I played with the Joey starter deck back in that time. It was way better than whatever anyone I played against was using. Important to note that we all barely knew what we were doing

Hey guys! Love these duels, been watching for damn near a year at this point, would LOVE to see a “Dino vs Hero’s” or a “Dinos vs Cyber dragons” video! Or you could even do the dinosmasher structure deck vs the cyber dark structure deck battle!
Definitely need to see that Joey vs. Yugi and Seto vs. Pegasus duel now. Perhaps a mash up of Yugi & Seto with classic & Evolution decks?
At some points, Kaiba's deck looks so weak, that it cannot stand against totally nothing.
I feel like the ~2006-2012 era was at a pretty good spot with regard to searching, building field presence, etc., without it being absurd.
Wish we had more starter decks back in the day.
Bakura deck
May deck
Bandit keith deck
Rex and weevil should've been a thing but atleast we have them in speed duel, back then would've been way better.
I wonder if anybody made a fan set list for those. Sounds like a fun fan project
@@fennecfoxfanatic it's what I'm doing with my little brother 😅 duels are way more fun.
The starter deck duels are pumper. Love to see em
You guys could actually create some orica cards and get them printed, make duels and upload them. Like Anime Z-One - Timelord vs Anime Bakura - Destiny Board or smth like that. Or make boss duels. Would be fun to watch i think
I liked the extra gusto y'all put into it when declaring attacks and summoning XD
There were times where I couldn't hear what was being said because it sounds like they whispering or rather talking in a low voice. "I SUMMON RED EYES BLACK DRAGON fisifhfbdkfnfjdjingding" like that
I think it would be cool if you did a small analysis of those decks and talked about their strengths and weaknesses and why the Kaiba deck lost so much.
It would be amazing if you guys used the battle themes from YGO the Falsebound Kingdom!!! But anyways, these series are amazing by themselves! 🤩
Let's go!!!! I love these types of duels. There nice and they take a long time witch is nice. And turn based duels are always the best.
Exactly, way better than the solitaire that is a lot of the modern version.

Brings back some memories! Thanks guys!
Finally I kept looking for this duel on your page
Fan of the old dueling. Up to 5ds atleast. Great vids. Where do you find these decks?
Ebay or Amazon
Great video. Love seeing these duels.
The audio mixing is definitely a little off in this one though. Music's a bit loud compared to your voices, or maybe you guys were talking quietly and the mics didn't pick it up?
Great video! What song is playing in the background at 8:34? It sounds awesome!
Props to Alec for getting fit! I'm on that track, too. Keep on it, brother! Sugar (carbs) is the enemy!
"3rd rate duelist with a 4th rate deck" lolololol thank you for that quote!
5:11 - "Ohhh, the hologram, it hurts".
YES A TEAM APS VID!
The problem is the Joey deck came out a set or two later than the Kaiba one, so it actually had useful cards where Kaiba had nothing.
Yes!! Perfect way to start my Sunday :). Your uploads made me wanna come back to playing Yu-Gi-Oh! On a side note, I hope your date went well :).
Man, this takes me back! Haha. So much fun to watch
This is how duells are suppost to be... normal play... not playing 90% of your deck first turn. :)
Very nostalgic.
I bought all those four starter decks and they were fun to play, as i was fresh in the game back then.
Yall gotta up the mics and lower the music or something half the time its impossible to hear
It's pretty fitting that I was playing Duel Links as Kaiba and dueling Joey to farm his cards, while watching this video. xD
god i remember judge man for the sole reason that a kid i played with thought he was indestructible due to flavor text, and we had a half hour argument over it till his older brother told him otherwise. good times
You guys should totally play like they do in S1 duelist tournament
I played with the Joey starter deck back in that time. It was way better than whatever anyone I played against was using. Important to note that we all barely knew what we were doing
